Did a practice run of the Manufacturers Gr. 4 race at Gardens yesterday in my WRX with tire wear and fuel consumption on...ugh, it’s going to be a long season. The new tire model exacerbates all of the worst aspects of that car (understeer, front tire wear) while basically nullifying its one strength (great speed off the corner) which also makes its poor straightaway speed even worse.

Agree with the assessment that the brakes feel like magic now. Cars brake like they’re on rails, they don’t squirm like they used to and you can’t steer the car with brake bias like before.

Terrible news (facepalm). Try ABS Weak; braking, and the car in general, is much more lively during turn-in. Although that could make front wear even worse if you lock up, but if you run +5 BB then it should be the rears locking up rather than the front.

I noticed another big change that's related to the new tire model:

180° spins from a stand-still are now possible with high-powered RWD cars!

When you turn off TCS and hit the gas, the revs now go up and the tires start spinning nearly immediately. Previously, TCS was never turned off completely; even with 500+ HP cars, hitting the gas made the revs only gradually go up over something like 2 seconds, which was completely unrealistic.

After some driving with "new" tyre model, my opinion is that:
They didn't change anything big or special, they only increased the rear tyres grip (like RHs became RMs-RSs) while leaving rear tyre wear as RHs.
As a consequence, its much easier to catch a slide (no more ridiculous spins),
acceleration is better especially at low speeds
and naturally the undesteer is increased.
I'm not sure if they changed anything to the front tyres, maybe a slight decrease in grip.
If my presumption is correct, I only wonder what took them so long?

Just read this,,. and you´ll be able to solve that problem (CSL ELITE Wheel)

Only a temporary fix. ;) Wouldn't mind if someone with the technical know-how could give some advice on permanently fixing the problem.

Donno if anyone tried this, but I can drive cars without any aids now... On DS4 lol... ABS is tricky when driving competitive but it is drivable now...

Just tested on Sport Soft tires with 2000GT, 250GTO, Miura, GT40 Mark I, Cobra, 330P4 and XJ13 on Nordschleife... Man those cars drive like hell since tire model is updated and finally one can have a feeling how it was to drive without aids...

@ivann they changed for sure something more... There is no way I could just like that switch off ABS and drive on DS4... And G29 is totally different story now too

Feels nicer and more intuitive to me now (T300). I pretty much only play gr3 and gr4, viper / corvette felt great around Nordschleife. I turned CSA from weak to off, ABS from normal to weak, went straight out and got a few consecutive laps in with no crashes or excursions. This is very unusual for me!

I came back after a long hiatus - last time I tried GTS was after the June update, did a few XBOW grind runs, completed Tsubuka and Gardens CE. The change is not revolutionary, still, I prefer it to the previous state of things. Now I get a much better warning and feel of impending loss of traction mid-corner and on the exit while turn-in phase feels marginally better.

Did some practice for the mftr cup, struggled to get near 1.5 sec off the tenth time, (maybe its the car, toyota 86) but i do feel like it's easier to lose the rear yet easier to save and more predictable. gotta practice more, i suppose.

For all the guys who voted "Dunno" (79 & counting), I've added another option to the poll - "Ambivalent".

👍

Spent a few hours today with the new update. Will share more thoughts later on, but this is a game changer in a positive way.

Road cars feel so much better now.

Going by what you guys are saying, I need to try some N cars again. I almost only use race cars and since v1.23 landed they are all I've driven.

I take it your all using wheels because using a controller it's much worse... oversteering like mad, No feel for break away, suddenly you are in the gravel or spinning sideways, I had much more grip pre-patch with a controller.

Tried the porche 919 and it felt great around the suzuka. Much better than last time i tried. Rh tires

Tried the wrx gr 3 around nurb gp and that was not so great, maybe a little bit, but I spun out in corners when i felt i had 20% gas accelerator and upshifted. Not gicing more gas. Rh tires

Than i tried mustang gr4 with ch tires on drift setting on streets of willow. That was much better than before. Not perfect, bit much better.

I'm trying it now and I've got mixed feelings.

Road cars:

It's definitely better, but it's not quite what I hoped for. Lateral grip of sport tyres is improved, which is a good thing and slides are definitely easier to catch so thumbs up for that too.

What I absolutely hate though is the freaking oversteer while braking. I have tried several cars and GTR NISMO is absolutely the worst car under braking... it's going sideways all the time I brake. I need more time to practice though.

Race cars I have only tried 1 car which I liked and it feels better, again slides are easier to catch and I have a better feel of what's going on with the car.

Are you standing on the brake 100% while turning? Can't get away with that anymore.

Rear brake bias is much more likely to cause a spin now.
