Premium/Standard Jaguar comparison

Who is saying they "only want things for free"? The discussion is about the Jag not the rest of the cars in the DLC pack which I think everybody was happy to pay for.

The Jag is a special case since PD included lower quality cars in the standards so that they could ship a game with 1031 cars instead of 200 cars. I think given the choice it was the right thing to do.....but that doesn't stop it from feeling wrong if I am then asked to pay to upgrade those same standards.

If I am working and have to produce a lower standard of work because I am rushed for time it's understandable.....but I dont then go back and charge my customer to bring my work up to the standard they were expecting of me in the first place.

See this is the reason why PD shied away from saying they would upgrade standard to premium. You people think just because it's already in the game it should be free. What kind of twisted logic is that? Someone still had to sit there and scan these models, sort out the data, compile it and then test it what you think that should be free too? This sets a precedence which is why I feel PD should never upgrade anything, just build new cars and save that for GT6 so we don't get this kind of twisted thinking from people. When people don't think they should pay for something they twist logic in ways that boggle the mind in order to make their position right.

The car looks great being modeled to a greater level of detail, why are you paying for it? It cost money to do the work, the tools needed to run the scans, the money to pay the electric bill for using the power to run said tools, money for gas as I'm guessing they either traveled to or had the car shipped to them. Money is being spent everywhere, but you want something free. I concede this is beyond ridiculous, guaranteed there will be more of this I want something free just because of some other twisted logical nightmare people can concoct. Sorry for going well off topic, consider me done with this subject in this thread PM me if you have anything to say.

the only thing i wish of the premium, is for the last lap timer to work :sly:

I haven't driven the car myself and hearing about that feature got me excited. Until it was said it doesn't work. One of three things I'm disappointed about in GT5 so far. :(

The 3rd sticker has been handed to you :sly:

Somebody having a different opinion than you is not "Twisted logic". It is a different opinion. You may not be right.....I may not be right.....we just have different opinions.

And I agree. I think PD should stick to modelling new cars.

twisted logic

they twist logic

twisted logical nightmare

Those words. I don't think you know what they mean.

Onto the comparison, I noticed the standard has fog lights. Where did those come from? Of course the premium doesn't have them, so that's something different.

Those aren't fogs on the Standard. That's just the low res texture of the mesh covering the intake.

Twisted logic?! I think it's far more twisted logic that folks are OK and defend the fact that part of the cost you pay for this DLC is the GT5 premium version of a car that was ported over from last gen! Difference of opinion I guess but I've never been a fan of porting over the bulk of content in standard form the way PD did. This is the latest GT installment afterall, and this is a high tech PS3 game afterall. Some folks will just defend everything PD does regardless.. so I guess I should have expected it.

I'm all for adding new cars to the game via DLC. Would love upgraded standards since that's the level of quality we expected out of GT5 for this gen but I don't want to pay for them. PD took the time to work on them for GT5 once already, and now they reworked it into premium glory. We shouldn't have gotten standards to begin with and that's really the big story. If PD released a standard update to premium DLC while charging for it I doubt it'd sell well. Most would in fact say 'but this car is already in the game!'

In regards to the car model, I was looking at the side by side comparison and the standard version of this Jag is in my book one of the better standards. The difference in quality is obviously there but it's not like seeing the god awful jaggies you see in a VW Lupo.

I know another series that's gives out a free car in a pack.
Maybe PD could offer this service on the standard/premium upgrades.

Would be nice.

I'd like to think one day in the future there will be a day when we can all appriciate what PD has to give us, rather than rant around it :indiff:

You're not getting charged just for that car. It's just one of 6. The other 5 are new.

Yes, I know that, and it doesn't change my opinion.

I understand that there is a certain cost of doing business, and these cars don't model themselves for free. But how many of you who paid out for the DLC can say that they wouldn't have done so had the Jaguar not been included? Even on these enthusiast forums the car that most people were raving about was the Lamborghini, and to a lesser extent the VW.

This was an opportunity for PD/Sony to say "hey, we remember you, thanks for your continued support" to it's non DLC purchasing fan-base. But they chose not to, and some of us noticed.

Even if they had upgraded the car I probably wouldn't have used it much anyway, so I'm not really missing out. I'm only posting my impressions, sorry if some in here have a problem with dissenting opinions.

Has the engine note in the upscaled Jag been improved?
If so have they added it to the normal one?

Cheers.

I preferably only cared for the Jaguar and to a lesser extent perhaps the lambo... but im not an exotic car fanatic. :indiff:

I've just tested both standard and premium. Cars sound the same, handle the same, and lap times are identical. Im not sure though if its the standard that has been improved with the update, or PD just copied physics and sound from a standard one.

Ive noticed its definately more of a detailed V12, the standard however, has not been changed even alittle bit, and all events with the XJR are still using the Standard version (funny driving past them in an upscaled model:lol:)

I think most people are capable of both. I very much appreciate what PD have done with GT5. That doesn't mean I have to agree with everything they do.

👍

So this is technically the first Standard to Premium upgrade. It's a shame it had a cost. But the looks of it are worth it. I'm just curious of what made PD decide to go specifically for this car? Nevertheless, awesome job.

Could this be the prelude of more Standards going for the Premium treatment? I smell XFR, R8LM or maybe with luck, the Veyron.

This will be something we will never know of I'm sure. One good thing is that we have another Premium car in the same group as the 787. I'm really surprised that it wasn't the regular Toyota Supra no race car, it seems there was more of a outcry for this car, surely PD heard this.

All said and done, when I purchase DLC I feel like I'm paying the wages of the person who put their heart and soul into producing these cars to the tiniest detail. That makes it worth it to me.

I've purchased all packs so far, and will purchase all packs in the future. Because of course, cars are cars and the more the merrier.

👍

I'm sure its the latter.

Aha cant wait for the veyron to be upgraded to premium *IF it happens* the controversy should be HALARIOUS

 👍

I don't really care about it, I don't have the standard model anyway. It's really nice to see some more premium Group C or LMP1 cars in GT5.
I don't think the cost is too bad - not compared to other games, and the whole package was a bargain to begin with anyway. As always when buying DLC, it's all down to how much you play the actual game.

Yes, LMP's are my favorite vehicles and they deserve a premium washover 👍 As for the bargain, yes i think its a complete bargain ! look at NFS DLC bundles, as high as 30 dollars to unlock all the cars !? Polyphony Digital is by far the smallest racing game company, you think they'd want massive amounts of cash, infact its the exact oposite :sly:

I agree. Ever since DLC 1 I've been really impressed by PD.
I'm really happy with the selection of LeMans cars we've got so far.
Peugeot 908 - Fantastic example of modern engineering and design
Audi R10 - The diesel that changed everything
Mazda 787B - Legendary sound and presence along with reliability. Deserved it's place for daring to use an untraditional power-train.
And now we've gotten the return of Jaguar with the N/A that beat the Turbocharged opposition.

PD, great work! 👍
