Comments from the Wookie on the PCARS forum:

"We have rewritten the rendering system. We have added multiple newly written and very important modules to the physics, drivetrain, differential and tyre modelling systems. The FFB system is now much more intuitive and comes with presets. The handling is transformed, in a very very good way. I'm biased I know but right now in the latest build I have, those cars that have all of the new systems in place have raised the bar for simulation... and this is before they are polished. But I can't say anything specific as we'll start the hype train soon

"OK it's Christmas. None of the famous brands are missing this time.
We've started QA already. We plan at least 7 months of QA for polishing and bug fixing."

Can't wait ...

I would still purchase pCARS2. The question is if I will purchase GTS as well.
Similar for me.

While I intend to get both one will be to spend time on heavily and the other will simply be for making comparison videos and fact checking the wide range of claims that will be made about it.

Based on my time with an early build of GTS it worth it for a quick drive, but I'm not expecting it to challenge most of the rest of the console SIM market in terms of physics. It would be nice to be surprised, but I will be happy enough if it's a good looking but basic SIM.

Yeah, the recent footage from PSX looked really nice graphically. Not sure about the rest of the package though.

I've already purchased pCARS 2 (backer), and I always purchase everything anyway, so decisions are unnecessary... but right now I'm very optimistic about all of the big 2017 titles.

  • pCARS 2 will definitely have the racing content to really compete with anything else, and graphically it's looking even more stunning than before (particularly lighting model).
  • GTS will definitely top the visuals and it will probably be solid enough to drive. But even if it just becomes a way to enjoy amazing visuals of cars it will still have something unique to offer.
  • Forza Motorsport 7 on PC is also sounding very promising too, with the recent news of a renewed focus on wheel support (and the inclusion of minimum force settings in the recent FH3 patch a good sign of their intent).
In short, lots to look forward to and yet more difficulty deciding where to spend my simracing time on :D

What people care about in racing games is the racing. From what i've seen, GTS is looking a step back with improved visuals.

Actually... your focus is definitely not that of everybody. there is a large community which spends huge amounts of time on the visuals (Photos, videos) of racing games, be that GT, Driveclub, Forza Horizon, or whatever offers a great end result.

I'm willing to bet that far more people will play GTS as a single player game with car collecting and amazing visuals, irrespective of the quality of the AI, than will actually race online with it....

I'm not saying that there are people that don't. I'm just saying that as it's a racing game, the racing part of the game is important and weather and day/night transitions play a larger role in that than increasing the number of beautiful AI.

Quoting you since you seem to know the most/give the most info.

I'm curious if there has been talk of increasing the number of players in online lobbies. If you can't say, is there a way for me to find out, i.e. become a member on their forum?

That's got me tempted to give it a go right now and see how it is.

You can't sign up. I have no idea about the online lobby numbers on PC2 or anything about the game.

I'd settle for 16 again, but if they can make 24 work, I'd be amazed!
Same here. Overall, it was a decent experience of online. I'd like more cars but an improvement on the online in general would be great. They'll surely be looking at both.

I think that's all we can reasonably expect. It would be par for the course, and would appeal to their target audience.

Renamed General Discussion Thread.
Added Ginetta because with the involvement of E-Sports in PC1, it's just an inevitability as to what cars will be in.

According to this, 7 months of bug fixing so the earliest possible release date is sometime in July.

Added some other realistic car brands seeing as Ian said here that none of the other famous car brands will be left out.

The first thing most people would get out of this is to think of certain prestigious European sportscar/exotic makes, which were already kind of known.

But I wonder if it means PCARS2 could have a thorough lineup of pretty much all the well-known brands, from Acura to Volvo. :)

They'll both make some additions to current classes. Acura have their GT3 and Volvo have their S2000 (TC2) car.

When I read that statement about famous brands, I thought it was only to acknowledge and confirm the leak of Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari.

I think I must get this game. I figured I'd concentrate on my real car, but if PC2 is going to be better than PC1, I can't miss out.

I hope GT Multi-class will be more like GT3 & GT4 cars only. Leaving out the vintage GT cars.

Then, if Multi-class can be modified to have LMP1 & GT3 cars to simulate WEC type races, would be awesome.

The way PC1 was structured for offline, I wish it was more like real multi class racing. Having 45 cars on track is the best. If they can keep the grids high and still pull off good graphics and weather, win win for us all.

Looking forward to PC2.

I would prefer they stay with what they already have for the most part and just increase the graphics, car variety and physics, along with sounds. Do not care for rally racing, hill climbs, drifting etc. Would like to see enhanced career mode. How about sand box event mode or just ability to do sample career events without going through complete career mode. Also l think it would be possible and good to have like a sim world mode. Either that or ability to choose base cars (no paint, no decals) and then include very basic livery to apply them yourself even on console. Also in career mode kind of think it would be cool to race for money and or win sponsership. Maybe the prize money could be used to enter special events etc. Currently for PS4 project cars in my opinion is overall way better than any other race car game on the market.

Project CARS wants to stay away from the money aspects of motorsport. That's why it's not in PC1.

Access to all cars at the start, is the single greatest thing about the game.
I like that all cars and tracks are immediately available to me for online, practice, and race weekend.

However, I think the career mode can use some sort of gamification. Add a game incentive for winning in career mode, and pCARS would be more addictive for me.

Can agree there, racing GT3s once I'd pantsed the GT3 championships and won WEC in GT there wasn't much left, I'd like some sort of incentive to stay with the same team a few seasons or consecutive championships or something.

I think it wouldn't hurt to look at drifting and rally, since it likely benefits the tarmac part in the end. Street tires will be more realistic if you can actually drift them, and going into the grass or dirt might be more realistic with rally implemented. In fact, patch 6.0 heating came from finding tread temperatures can go up to 200C once the tire is pushed in drifting.

In fairness, I agree with these points. If you improve the handling of the car on dirt, then you improve the handling of the car when a driver leaves the track in the case of off circuit racing or sliding in terms of drifting. Drifting is just a controlled slide and if they're correct, you can catch a car more realistically.

Are we talking about July 2017? I can't imagine the development of the game being that quick considering the implementation of whole new features like off-road racing. Does that mean Project CARS 2 is rather a polished version of PC1 with a lot of fine tuning (+ the aforementioned off-road racing) than a real successor?

At the very earliest.
