I see from this video that Project Cars 2 is still using a countdown lights system like PC1, but it appears to be inverted. I really hope they get rid of this before release as I find it encourages anticipation of the start leading to more first corner incidents in online racing.

How difficult would it be to use a more realistic system without the countdown, but with a random 1 to 3 second delay to that people can't anticipate the start?

This is a great idea. Used in real life series as well and shouldn't be too difficult to change.

I also have a thing in mind about race starts.

-If it's a standing start, then they keep the simple five red lights, and then the green lights.

-Since SMS has quoted on bringing rolling starts into Project CARS 2, and since the start would be single file on the warm-up, and shifting into a double file start before the start of the race.

And don't forget that in pCARS1 if you disabled penalties you could literally just drive off when the lights are counting down for the ultimate start. Want to see that gone in 2.

I think ToCA 1 had a red and then, green light. No countdown.
The same principle still applies. With a random period between red/green, starts are more varied and less predictable making skill the deciding factor and is why it's used in the start light system of many series. From a programming perspective, it shouldn't be too difficult. We've already got the lights etc there. It's just using a variable to have a random time between one event and another.

Although that is from my limited university programming where i'm nowhere near the world's best so I may have missed some areas.

GT6 also has this system with a randomized time interval.

I find the current system very irritating for online because it causes startline and first corner accidents. I did about 5 years of online hosting on other games without problems before switching to Project Cars and finding it has this very unrealistic starting system.

I know this isn't the wish list thread, but how difficult would it be to increase the hosting options and add race finish order and reverse grid so I don't have to go through a full cycle of qualifying before each race?

The current Project Cars system prevents me from splitting a meeting into two sprint races and the absence of a last corner start option means qualifying is always longer than ideal when hosting shorter meetings or sprint races. We don't run qualifying on Nordschleife for this reason and consequently normally skip that track altogether. GT6 was able to calculate qualifying position even when the time was insufficient for a complete lap by comparing the distance travelled on the track - this meant you could select 5 minutes for qualifying on a long track and still get a valid grid.

And the 720S, just because it looks so damn fine in this shot :D

What would really be cool, is a team member that could be a live engineer. The driver could just concentrate on the job at hand, while the engineer informs about tyre wear & fuel and who they are racing overall.
Yeah I find it particularly stressful worrying about the fuel load and tyres. Strategising (is that even a word?) is very hard to do by yourself.

Why should this be integrated. If you want it online , your friend must have a second copy of pCars. If the friend sits near to you, he can give advice directly. In pCars1 you can connect e.g. pCars Profiler. pCars Telemetry or vrHive to a second PC or second screen and your friend is watching the telemetry. For consoles you can use a tablet with pcars dash, not so much telemtry, but good overview to many technical states, live view of the track and live leaderboard.
In pcars 2, most of the current dashboard and telemetry apps work with pCars1 protocol and will be updated after release to the new and enhanced pCars2 protocols (work in progress ;) )

Seeing the live telemetry is fine, but to really be able to do the job, you need to see the race track as well.

I perform the Team Manager role for our league when we compete in the iRacing endurance events. I need both the data and the race footage. It's the same for real world. Why do you think all the race teams have one monitor on the pit wall dedicated to the TV broadcast of the race? They want to know what is happening on the track.

Telemetry is only part of the picture.

I'm not too great at computers. Plus, I'm rarely online. If I do decide to join a gtplanet league, it would be helpful for an online teammate(on console) to keep me posted.

this was just a tip to clowndess888 whats possible, if he has a friend/codriver, without implemtation directly into pCars.
If you check all this helper apps you'll see that there is not only telemetry, there are live track overview, leaderbords with split times etc. As written pCars dash does many of that jobs. You would need 3 ipads/androids or more to watch all of that simultanousely. But its possible, thats the point.
If you refere to real live, one friend to play team/spotter/engineer/others will not be enough ;)
