I would guess that if SMS had a team and budget the size of Forza, they'd have something akin to Forzavista if they wanted. This is the second game of the series versus Forza's 7th (10th including Horizon), so there is a lot of headroom for additional features that are outside the scope of racing/driving for Project CARS. Photomode (rumored to be in pC2), avatars, extra cars, etc.
As for more cars, from everything I have read, SMS has been determined to include cars that are relevant to racing and motorsport that "fit" within the game as a whole. Adding more cars by simply paying more money is something they could do, but have decided to use those resources elsewhere. Considering that each car has its own Physics and Handling characteristics which must be coded along with the model itself, I am ok with this. But there are a huge number of people who simply want more cars regardless of how they handle or if they are realistic or relevant to the game.
In development, it all comes down to what the devs deem as important. To me, and probably to the core of the Project CARS fanbase, a Forzavista-type feature would be a waste of resources. The strategy has seemed to be the development of the foundation of a genuine racing game.
To me the foundation is this:
- Realistic/Dynamic Tire Model
- Realistic/Dynamic Track Surfaces
- Realistic/Dynamic Handling and Physics, individually tuned for each car included in the game.
- Realistic/Dynamic Time of Day, Weather and Seasons
- Realistic/Dynamic, high-quality AI
- Fully Customized Racing Weekends Online and Offline
- Comprehensive Offline Career Ladder Mode spanning decades
- eSports with complete Broadcast Presentation options
I am sure I missed something, but you get the idea.
It is easy to see these other games and spot cool features that are missing from the Project CARS Series and kind of wish they were in. But, converse to that,
with the exception of the eSports aspect (GT Sport will include this as well),
no game on the market does anything on that list.
And this is probably where
@IanBell would drop the mic.
