Project CARS 3 Developer Blog Explains New Tire Physics, Confirms Pit Stops Are History

JUst read on the Project Cars Discord that they will be releasing an FAQ on PC3 later on today, should be interesting!
Seeing as you're here @Scaff, how long do points stay on your membership for? As I have 10 points for abusive behaviour from 2014.

Just want to prepare myself for this FAQ later on

I must admit I am not surprised. Here are my thoughts about it:

The had to bring the game out this summer, so that it will be before GT7 and therefore it had to be out on PS4. A big mistake in my opinion. I guess PC3 will be as buggy as PC2. And when GT7 will arrive, no one will talk about PC3 anymore.

They should have taken their time and make PC3 a worthy successor of PC2.

A simulation without pit stops and without fuel consumption, no tire wear and therefore no strategies during races? It must be the hell of a joke by the developers, but as it is serious, I think I won'T buy the game.

GT7 won't be out for a while. As they didnt show a release date and its PD I can't see that being before 2022. So I dont think they will have been racing again that. I mean its been in development for around 3 years so I wouldn't saybthey were rushing or racing to beat anyone.

What a joke! I had concerns after the trailer, and with their past history of bugs this definitely wouldn't have been a day one purchase for me. I love endurance racing, so now this simply won't be a purchase at all. Good job, lads. Peace out.

So all the people that laughed at the floating gates seen in the gameplay video that thought that was really 'arcade' well they just confirmed that is part part of their 'Authenticity' towards 'all the sim you could want' WOW this release is like some big prank gone wrong lol

So was it plug and play happiness for you? I'm really stumped as I gave it another go a month ago and I just couldn't get it to work well.

As I recall, yes. Been running the same setup since it came out. Didn’t have to do a magic dance to make it work right like ACC. If you haven’t just make sure your firmware is updated. I’ll also check my wheel settings and DM them to you when I get a chance.

Yeah, I much prefer the super realistic colourful lines on the ground. My local race track has those..

"Authenticity" as they say. If authenticity is upped by having giant floating 3d gates I can't wait to see what other 'Authentic' features they have. Next thing they will be saying 'authenticity' is increased by magic tyres that change themselves and change the handling of the car in adverse weather condition as you drive...

Yes, like I said, such a shame they got rid of the authentic coloured lines.

Have they said they're going to be giant 3D gates? From the tweet it looks like just cones

Either way, I'm fine with it. I'll just turn off the inauthentic lines/gates like in every other racing game

You can see the floating gates in the gameplay videos of PC3 on YouTube. Of course you can turn them off. The point is they call these floating gates 'authentic' after most of the complaints have been over their comments of 'all the sim you could want' if this is 'authentic' what are the other features going to be lol Definitely feels like they are trolling their fanbase at this point

You know iracing has colourful racing lines, as does ACC, Forza etc. I'm prefty sure from here on in it doesn't matter what SMS say because everyone seems to have made up their mind.

Oh I see. Well, on track days people just starting out have an instructor with them, don't they? I think if a person is going to learn, this might be a way to sort of hand hold newcomers. And it sort of is in the spirit of a track day. Any option that might help beginners learn is great, IMO. Provided we can turn all that off. I don't see much of a difference between this and the racing line.

Yeah, SMS guys still taking notes about questions.

Nah, they'd never have magic tyres!

I think the people that are onboard with this new direction may still be in for a shock. Has anyone properly watched the trailer?

In the trailer they showed a car waiting on the side of the road, when the Merc passed the car went after him and rammed him. I thought uh oh, are they going to award points for aggressive driving? Remember Shift Unleashed awarded points for aggressive driving, so as a spiritual successor to Shift I guess that's expected.

I think there are more 'fun' surprises in store

One thing at least gts got right was use of cones, something that actually is used on trackdays.
Never thought I’d see the day I’d be praising gt for being more authentic than project cars!
To be fair I think this is coming to PC3.

Surprised no one has made that joke already. Maybe they confused their trailer for Hot Pursuit remastered?

Yeah, I figured what they meant by the "authenticity" of it was that it's more relatable to real world instruction than the virtual line.

And who cares about optional virtual markers in a game with a virtual HUD and track map/radar, virtual rear view mirror, the ability to pause the game or restart a race, etc...? Right, it's a videogame, what's your point?

This seems like a futile move to appeal to casuals that won't make any effect on that particular group but will instead annoy sim fans. I'm talking as someone who don't play PCARS so maybe I'm missing some internal fan context.
The original Project Cars was quite a popular game because it brought something new to the sim-racing table. However a lot of those casual buyers did not get Project Cars 2 because it was too hardcore and had a lot of frustrating bugs. The game established itself as a hardcore simulator and the sales of Project Cars 2 were worse as a result. How the hell are SMS supposed to attract those casuals who passed on Project Cars 2? Especially with the offerings from Forza and Gran Turismo? Project Cars 2 found a niche with hardcore sim racers, whilst the the casuals looked elsewhere. Now that Project Cars 3 has scared off many hardcore sim racers, I'm not sure how well it's going to sell. Getting casuals back into Project Cars will take some doing considering it's current reputation. What a stupid marketing decision. SMS have made life much harder for themselves in the face of the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The Discord ended up getting questions thrown up all night, so they didn't stop taking them until after 10pm (UK time), so te FAQ I guess is going to take a bit longer for them to get done.

The three main questions were:

Can we have pitstops back as an option?
What does the removal of pitstops mean for endurance races (career, but mainly in regard to league events)
What does the removal of pitstops mean for damage and how will you get it fixed?

Predictable.

Hopefully the FAQ actually covers other stuff as well.

Well, I believe there is no time to have them back (as an option) for the release.

Maybe they could add them back later on with an update, but still this will imply a massive re-adjustment of the game, graphically and conceptually.

I am curious to see how they will build up their FAQ.

Hopefully they'll just get the pitstop bit put the way and then focus on talking about the rest of the features those of us who want to buy the game wsnt to know about. Stuff we havent heard about yet.

I doubt a FAQ will ease any rage on the removal of pit stops now but I do hope they learn from this and bring it back for pCARS 4 or just make this as a spin offs.

It would be nice if they polish everything in PCars 3 and build up on this base for PCars 4 adding more features like pitstops/tyre wear and fuel consumption and also polish them. If PCars 3 would give us better "hardcore" PCars in the future then i would accept one-off simplified entry to the series.
