I really like the sound of this game, it's a proper racing game hiding inside of an arcade game. Racing games have got to serious over the last few years with eSpOrTs this sounds like it will appeal to a wider audience if advertised in the mainstream, the sim community will hate it for being different but they're like that.

It appears to be about time to admit that this is just not a game for me. That doesn't mean the game can't be good at what it tries to do, that's just difficult to judge when you don't like the content. Assumed track and car list also appear to have removed more content that I like than that they have added.

I really hope this game returns to its roots on next gen. For now PC2 still entertains me enough, but I really hope a nice sim comes to PS5.

Career mode walkthrough, the best line "lets put a turbo on, that's what Jesus would do".

I've just finished watching it, that line did make me chuckle.

Chris is a very professional guy, I enjoy watching his videos, very unbiased & to the point with just the right amount of subtle humour.

That being said, I've not commented on PC3 to much but I've seen, read & heard enough to say this isn't for me, maybe 10 years ago or even 5.

That's not to say the formula is bad or anything, I just don't have the time for this type of game anymore, be it this, forza or gt.

Interesting, that's the second or third time I've seen someone say that since videos started going live and I'm the same - a few years* ago I would have been all over this but now I really can't be bothered with this type of career mode grind of upgrading, credits & XP. PC2's career is miles better for me, whatever it's faults at least it feels like some kind of progression in actual motorsport.

*Too many years

I thought I *might* get this game just to see what it is about. Thanks to all the gameplay today, it just cemented the fact that it is not for me, or my friends whom I race with. So goes without saying that i will not be buying it afterall. I hope those that do have a good time with it.

To your second point. I kinda swore after pCars1 I wouldn't buy pCars2 due to the way they handled things and reacting to the community simply asking questions. I still bought pCars2 and have been very happy with it overall. But SMS still rubbed me the wrong way about their responses, or lack thereof, and overall ownership over the product. They really seemed to not give one F about the community (the C in CARS).

Honestly, I'm heartbroken over pCars3. I thought for a split second they would get it all right, really give the fans of the series what they wanted. And they were SO CLOSE to doing it. It's possible if there's a pCars4 they do, or at least get close again. But the way everything is ran at SMS, and especially now with CM behind them, I think I really am done. :ouch:

Its funny to me that people are sort of insinuating that the older you get, the more you don't want to play more casual games. I used to want to play fast paced games. I loved racing, and was obsessed with speed and getting the fastest car in the game. Now in my 40s I'm just happy to race eclectic road cars. And most everyone I play with (that I know personally) is the same. They've said they might buy this. For reference, we played GT5 and 6 A LOT together online. They didn't like GTS (I didn't either). I actually bought 2 extra copies of PC2, and they just didn't like it. They both said they may have enjoyed it years ago, but not now. We just want to relax, have a beer and play games.

That doesn't mean we want to play NFS or just go out and ram people. It just means that we don't want to be tense and white-knuckling it while we play. So insinuating it's for someone less 'mature' or experienced is a bit misleading. I think PC3 is just going to be good fun with sim underpinnings

I'm with you mate... 45y/o here and as much as I like lapping on ACC when I get a bit of time, if I get 30 mins to an hour to jump on my rig I'd much rather have a few races in a less "mature" game (GAME being the operative word here and one most of these self-appointed pro's seem to ignore). If it's not your cup of tea let it go and get back to whatever makes you excited, I'm not about to go into a Mario Kart forum and complain about just how unrealistic it is compared to GT/Forza/PC etc.

I don't know if you read my wall of text but I never intended to suggest such a thing. Nobody else seems to have said anything of the sort either. I realize sim racers do have that "elitist" reputation and some of us do occasionally show off why it's deserved, but sometimes people saying something doesn't appeal to them are just saying that it doesn't appeal to them.

For me, a while back it would have fit in with what I liked to do and what I could do. I do like some aspects but not some others. Nowadays I just don't have as much interest in doing the kind of tasks that this game seems focused on, and I do have enough that do let me do things the way I want(and enough other things to consume the rest of my time) that I'd probably never get to playing this much unless it surprised me. It's not because I'm [even] older, it's just the state of my interests.

Congratulations Ian and SMS... what was once a fully sim focused series with fan interaction has now been turned into a Forza wannabe. I feel so bad for everyone that was hoping for an ACTUAL true sequel and not... this thing.

With the only small consideration that Forza is moving away from this niche, introducing more refined tire and suspension phyisics (at least according to their press). If they introduced also different tire compound for wet and dry races, then PC3 will find itself battling alone in a niche that Forza and GTSport both left to step up.

Which might not be a bad idea for SMS, not everyone wants/care about those features and almost all my close friends nope out of sims but stick with FM/GT because of the simplicity while still feel realistic enough.

The sudden change for pCARS 3 is still a weird idea for a franchise, looking back at NFS constant changing themes don't even seem to stray too far from its core compared to what pCARS has done.

This goes both ways though.

Some casual players may deliberately wreck people and laugh about it, while others just want to relax with a beer after work, or others just want go fast and see shiny graphics, and so on.

On the other side, some of the more "hardcore" or "sim" guys (or whatever you want to call them) are eSports "tryhards" of course, but some people just find it more engaging to have things like pit stops and aren't necessarily sweating while they are playing.

By the way, the vast majority of comments, on all Youtube gameplay videos posted in the last 24 hours, are demolishing the game and its arcade feeling.
It is really a big s**tstorm that is not confined to some racing enthusiasts forum, but is spreading all over.

Personally, I have mixed bag feelings about this title.

I am pleasantly surprised about the controller implementation, and from the videos I can appreciate the visual feelings of the car passing on curbs.
It looks well done.

I am not worried about races mixing up different cars' categories, as long as they kept the possibility of full customization for races (and hopefully championships) with race selection, category selection, qualifying, etc etc. If this option is present, then I will always build up my own custom races.

What really pisses me off is the removal of tire wear, tire compound, fuel wear, pitstops, etc etc.

I have over 30 years and I like both arcade and sim racing games. I even played NFS Heat not so long ago and had great fun with it...

I just hate strange and stupid decision. For me many of desing choices in PCars 3 are baffling. I understand trying to reach to wider audiences and I understand the new career mode (it looks great actually) But other things looks like lazy way to simplify the game with cutting of features.
Arcade game used to had pit-stops and nobody had problems with them, what was wrong with old car classes? Road cars seems to have the old categories but why oversimplifying GT Classes? It actually have negative effect on variety of the game instead of positive. Beacuse after getting from Road cars to race machines it would be better for both casuals and simfans to have proper race disciplines. It would be interesting and varied instead of 3 fictional mashed-up GT categories.

This is funny because for now GRID is better motorsport simulation than PCars3. With proper car classes. I wonder why is that hard to connect both of the sim and casual fans. Take the Controller support and Career mode from PCars 3 add PCars 2 options and we have a perfect game. Maybe they will succeed in fourth installment.

The bad part is. From what we hear there will be no this type of race configuration. You have GT A class which mixes GT3, GTE and GT4 cars (with addition of V8 Supercars and Nascar) and thats it. I doubt they added option to manually select each car on the grid. But old car classes are gone.

On the other hand. We should wait and see. It seems like this video content is limited actually because they are showing us the same races (silverstone with Aston Martin, Shanghai with Toyota Supra) etc. It looks like they had limited content. Maybe they have huge race configurator in custom race which allows us to set every tiny detail.

With the harsh social beating the marketing videos are getting on YouTube, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a delay in the release. From a business standpoint, this is a nightmare scenario.

I have the hope that what we are seeing is part of the ''career'' mode, where all categories are mixed up (or let's say oddly grouped), and there is still the ''custom race'' mode, where we could setup all parameters of a race or even championships (or hotlap modes).

After all promises that Ian ''Big Mouth'' Bell made about offline custom championships for PC3 on their forums, if they took completely out the custom modes, this game for me can really go directly into the trash bin without even being released.

On the other hand The Last Of Us 2 sold very well despite the internet hate. So it could end up different ways.

Same here mate same here...

But after those talks about "ALL SIM YOU WANT" and then revealing lack of tyre wear, pitstops and fuel consumption i don't believe him. So i am prepared for the worst. And that means Custom races yes but car classes same as career mode.

Gamer Muscle opinion. He also have mixed feelings. Good for simcade fans, bad for sim players. He think this isn't sim anymore.

There won't be offline custom championship in PC3. I asked on discord Yesterday.

I am with you. I don't like career mode ( very short races, no qualif, very short championship, a strange mix of cars on the same track...) and no offline custom championship mode. So, this game is just not for me. I was quietly optimistic...

Based on the videos I've seen so far I would have to disagree, both GT and FM would need to still improve the physics and tyre model considerably, what appears to be more accurate is that GT and FM are trying to get to the niche that PC3 have just reached.

Indeed, it's never as simple as 'Camp A all want this' and 'Camp B all want this' and this ******** that all sim drivers are elitists who hate it for existing and all casual players are rammers who have ruined Project Cars as a series just needs to be killed with fire.

Coming back to the weird classes topic. I think this entry can be more fun in... road cars. There different cars doesn't look off and it could be fun.

Maybe PCars 2 for realistic races in motorsport
PCars 3 for roadcars?

If true then thats stupid. One of the most requested things for PC2 and it was ignored while we were told that the career mode would have everything we would want from the championships and they were wrong. 3 years of complaining and they STILL won't give us this feature that is the only way to really appreciate the car and track list for this game.

I dont care about losing pit stops and tyre wear, not even fussed if they HAVE dumbed down the physics like they said they wouldn't. But what is the point of this SANDBOX racing game if you cant actually do what you want.

Hell even F1 2020 has custom championships and thats a licensed series game and didn't even need to do it. PC3 absolutely needs it, especially if the career mode has such weird car combos and classes.

the sandbox mode is more like a simple quick race menu like back in NFS Underground I guess, go in pick a car and track then just have fun racing it.
