It's a bold strategy Cotton - Wonder if it will pay off ( :

I feel shocked!

The cynic in me can't help wondering how many times they restarted the session to get a grid without the 70s Escorts and BMWs...

I haven’t opened the video yet but if the whole grid is McLarens then there must be a filter option to lock the grid to single car :)

I'll tell you what I don't see in this video but it's a good thing, no achievement markers on track. Now if you're able to customize the HUD enough to get rid of the XP counter thing and the perfect corner nonsense counter thing, that would improve my outlook on the game.
The video toggles the HUD in addition to the camera angle, in case anyone didn't notice (1:51, 4:28, 7:53, 9:50). I presume options will be similar enough to PCARS2.

Nope, it's still an... interesting mix of cars, just the 70's specials are notably absent compared to other videos I've seen.

I probably need to park my cynicsm....

Getting utterly desperate now this game when the mod on the official forum is now making only positive discussion thread and deleting 'negativity'

Does all that "negativity" conducive to a constructive dialogue or are they just insults behind the anonimity of a keyboard?

If you read on the forum its people voicing concerns/complaints of missing tracks, handling, features etc all game stuff. No insults that I can see

Nah, there is very little constructive dialogue from the majority of people.

You'd be better off engaging in good faith, and with genuine criticism, not the usual complaints. Build your point, and provide feedback.

The problem is, as it gets closer to release more people are going to learn about the game and the negativity will likely continue. Probably grow and get louder.

Kind of sad the same 5 people are the only ones posting in the "positivity only thread". I can't even post at that forum anymore because the defenders of the game sometimes resort to the same lows as the negative posters. With responses like "dont like it don't buy it", using "clever" memes and such, instead of providing legit responses to the game's criticisms. That's not constructive either. On the other side of the coin I can't bother reading the same criticisms of the game over and over either, which is their main problem.

Locking it to a single car is possible but I think having a class of only GT3 or GT4 is not an option anymore. Everything seems to point to a weird mix of classes and I think there is a "any" class where upgraded stock Megane will race along side GT3 cars.

Game Riot footage are all single car grid:

That sounds a bit communist don't you think? Trying to suppress freedom of speech and actively seek out those who speak negatively? Wow, the Project Cars community really is toxic, bloody hell... What utter stupidity.

Not really. Not much different from the hype thread here. When you only want to discuss the game, it gets annoying that pit stop, magic tires and tracks complains keeps being brought up.

This has been happening there since pCars1. And people wonder why others are so critical of SMS and those who represent them forming their image of their products. Also as stated, nothing to do with freedom of speech.

How can you suppress what doesn't exist?

Granted it's not a good look, but they're a private forum and therefor can require people to post however they want.

Forums are for discussion and they're dictating what the discussion can be about. Imagine how different this pCars forun would look if negativity was banned. Be pretty empty.

SMS need to accept that this was going to be very divisive and they need to accept that people will want answers.

Its clear at this stage that the Bell brothers have, at best, played fast and loose with the truth, and at worst, outright lied to the players. You don't get to dictate peoples opinions when you've done that.

Incidentally while on the subject of those 2, I was thinking the other day as I've seen @Scaff and others reference their promises a lot. If they hadn't posted or tweeted things like "all the sim you could ever want" etc, basically take away both of their comments in their entirety, would your opinion of the game be different?

all the negative feedback on the game could have avoided if they have announce it as a spin off, even with the "all the sim you could ever want" I don't think the community will be this negative to it if it didn't put a "3" on it then remove a bunch of features from the previous games.

i think even with pcars 3 name there won’t be such negativity if they stayed transparent. This lies „all the sim you want” etc were something that pissed off community.

The name do gave the fan base an expectation on what it should be, being transparent might help but I don't think it will change much when the changes is this drastic. I don't really blame it on "all the sim you want" statement since it isn't part of the official marketing but the Bells own loud mouth and not everyone follows them.

Bit of an odd decision from codemasters. They make racing games but have no sim. So they buy a sim and turn it into another grid?

Dont get that logic at all.

Shame as i would love to see codies try a sim. They have the base course there.

As has been said before, it is NOT codemaster's game at all. This was like this years ago, long before they came along. They haven't had input

Isn't it weird how we all get a different experience driving the same game. I did a race at Historic Spa in the BMW M1 Procar against the AI yesterday and I was anything but glued to the ground when hit by the AI.
But what about the AI? I found it hard to displace them on track and was always the player that went spinning while the AI just stuck to their line.

And @Konan has the echo chamber I said he wanted, complete with jolly comments about how a company director ripped a potential customer a new one! Daddy must be so proud of Nathan.

One of the challenges with any official forum is that it’s also the official place to voice concerns about a game as you have a closer (sometimes direct) line to the people who make the game*.

If somebody is happy, they’re typically not going to sign up to a forum and say “hey, this is good”. That’s too much effort when it could easily be done with a tweet or YouTube comment. Therefore, an official forum will always lean towards the negative as “patch culture” has made people believe anything in a game can be changed/added if they shout loudly enough. It’s kind of why I’m talking about this game here, as this is a neutral space and I’m genuinely curious about the title (that and I’ve had a :gtplanet: account for almost a decade).

How each forum/developer/publisher handles official forums is up to them and they have their own reasons for structuring them the way they are, and I can’t speak for and have no insight into how SMS run theirs (it’s none of my business), but I can give a bit of perspective on the Codemasters forum.

Over there, all feedback and discussion is allowed to happen freely, so long as it’s respectful and constructive. “Hate for the sake of hate”, insults and other generally unuseful stuff gets dealt with, but if somebody wants to raise an issue with a game, can make good points for why it impacts their enjoyment and articulate them well, that fosters good discussion and (long term) can have an impact on future titles. :)

*Let’s ignore the fact that core game design decisions can not be “patched in/out” as most people don’t fully understand how games are made and developed. Anything on that scale, you’re best off asking for in a sequel.

I can honestly say that taking away the comments my opinion wouldn't change. I respect the game design choices but I struggle to see why this product is being sold as PC3. And I think many of us agree that this game is not the game we expected as the next one in this franchise.

I for one have always said that PC3, as in a real improvement and successor with the same philosophy as PC2, can only be released on the next generation of consoles. So if they just would have released this as a spin-off I would have been like okay, try and take some money and use it for the next game that I'm interested in. Now that it is released as a successor to PC2 it raises questions about the direction of the franchise and many console sim enthusiasts are concerned

I think it would change my opinion. I agree it doesn't feel like a true sequel to the previous game but back in 2018 we knew it was going a slightly different direction, I just feel without the crap theyve spouted on social media the expectation may have at least been lower.

I think those are valid points. I've been on the discord forum. And different ones that are also the ones hollering loudly in here are also in there. Over and over and over pounding home their points even though its been said hundreds of times already. And its in a mocking, argumentative tone the whole time. Nathan Bell is not a bad guy. He just doesn't do PR well. He cuts through a lot of the PR speak.

The problem is, no matter what he says these same people are beating their point and it doesn't matter what the replies are. Eventually the 'don't like it, don't buy it' comes out and then everyone is in an uproar over "look what this guy said!". I can holler all sorts of things at him all day, but how dare he say something like that to me. "I'M THE CUSTOMER. I'M ALWAYS RIGHT".Good in theory, but the real world doesn't work that way

Checks notes....

...'Nathan Bell, Online Marking Director'

....kind of needs to do PR well!

The customer is not always right, but how you communicate that to the customer is actually far more important, and the manner in which Nathan and his dad have always worked on that has never been good. I learnt working customer service for an automotive OEM.

I'm an ardent fan of the Project Cars series, I have been since the first one came out, but any objective view of the marketing from the company shows it's been one of a company that is fine when they get positive feedback and praise, but the moment they have to deal with issues (be they real or not) they are defensive, dismissive and at times insulting and condescending. It's an area of the SMS business that I firmly believe Codemasters needs to (and given Ian's silence on PC3 already is) get a firm hand on.
