In the second post of this thread there is another list of cars, some with "Alpha" next to them, what does "Alpha" mean?

It refers to their stage of development
Alpha is the cars modelled and sometimes can work. It's a crude model once most of the details are there and they have sounds and handling etc the car goes into beta. This is a much longer period of time.
During this period the car is being constantly refined and updated with animations, sound, textures or even the model itself.
For example the gt3 ginetta had a change in dash display to bring it in
Inline with the current models.
Normally we only get access once the vehicle is in late alpha or early beta.
Does this help?

ok so in short, its somewhere between started and not quite ready?

Well, because they first have to license them. AFAIK, licensing is a long and difficult process and not every cars/car companies are licensable and/or affordable.
Yes i understand that,it's the same reason why Gran turismo has always used ruf instead of porsche but i'm also talking about the private teams and earlier teams not racing anymore today like Peugeot,Pescarolo,Dome,Strakka and various other privately owned teams that still race but have never shown up in any other game (As far as I know of) like Rebellion and Lotus (in lmp1-L). As for toyota, where's the problem there? they have introduced audi's r18 TDI from 2012 and are even creating the e-tron (hybrid/quattro) version from 2013. Surely if they can buy the license for audi, they can find the money for toyota, after all, the ts030-ts040 are audi's biggest rivals for le mans (reminding you that toyota won last year's WEC in front of porsche and audi). So to me and many other fans, it seems a shame to exclude such brilliant makes.

No they can't.

I think some people don't get the "limited budget" concept. Such a shame...

Seriously, people who put comments like these are thinking that SMS deliberately didn't include Toyota/Ferrari/whateverothercarbrandthatyoufeelisleftout just to mess with you or cause they think it's unimportant? I'm sure they are aware of what cars are out there, but they just had a relatively small licensing budget and also a limited number of graphics artists they can hire. Once the game sells well, I'm sure there will be more cars added. Then we can talk about why such and such car is not in.

This also goes for lmp2,
Apart from the alpine A450b and the Oreca 03 I don't see any other "real" prototypes of their class (correct me if i'm wrong)
So it would be nice to bring in the Oak racing Morgan-Nissan or the G-drive Ligiers (among many others).
The last little thing is for the ford gt 40..
Where is the MKI and MKII??
As much as I love the MKIV, there were other versions of it,that had also successfully won Le mans 3 times (2 by the same exact car) in the 60's.
I'm sorry for all my "complaining" but I really want this game, but I want to be able to experience it with some of the best cars that were ever made that unfortunately are not on the list (at the moment).

That was also what I thought that they should do if they can't add them now
I just don't believe we're going to see them in there at all

For starters, we don't know what licenses SMS have acquired until they make an announcement. Also, sometimes, manufacturers won't give out licenses for some cars for their own reasons. It's not always a case of game developers forgetting about cars. So, there might still be a chance for Toyota, Onroak, etc. Of course, money has also been mentioned, which is another big part.

In my opinion a Racing/Simulation game should reserve places for these sort of cars (lmp1-2/group c/F1...) and not worry too much about other road cars/sports cars of even supercars as they are not proper racing cars!

Which they have been doing, however people do like driving and racing street cars so it's worthwhile to include them.

Also, for any WMD members. Have they considered adding more fantasy LMP cars?

yes they have.. they've made two lmp1's and two lmp2's but i'd rather have real one's rather than made up versions..
oh well, that's not going to happen
we'll just have to wait for gran turismo 7
As far as I know based on the list PCARS has or is planning:
Bentley Speed 8 LMP900
Audi R8 LMP900
Audi R18 LMP1 (multiple variations)
Oreca LMP2
Alpine LMP2 (?)
2 Fantasy LMP1's and 2 LMP2's

And those are just the post-2000 cars...considering the budget these guys have I'm EXTREMELY impressed by the LMP list. 👍 👍 Besides their "fantasy" LMP's are extremely believable.

And its probably a safe bet that those fantasy P1 cars are going to be Clayton Toyota and Porsche,

I've been eying this game for a while with mild interest and I might spring for the PC version when it becomes available.

But a quick question since I'm "out of the loop" a bit (busy!): For the most part I'm a big fan of cars, especially classic performance road cars, but have little interest in purpose-built race cars etc. My perfect racing day is taking an Alpine A110 or Yellowbird and running around Citta Di Aria in GT4. Looking at the car-list, it looks to me as if Project Cars is aimed primarily at racing cars or race-modified cars, but not so much at road-cars. Is this the general consensus, or am I off-base here?

You are correct. Probably not the game for you, if you want lots of road cars.

I d say it depends on your road car conaisseur level. If you want the full double cheeseburger menu with XL fries, you will still feel hungry after playing pcars. If you like some wine and fine cheese, voila. Your Yellowbird is waiting in ze parking lot, Monsieur.
I'm happy with the current list and I'm surprised with what they have gotten so far. If I want a lot of cars I can wait for GT7 or just play rFactor.

If the games sales well SMS might be able to get more. The licensing guys have a massive list of cars and brands the community would like. The games going to have a life of at least a year, so post dlc release they could be more cars.
This is just speculation but SMS will strive to expand game.

Yeah cause I remember seeing a few unconfirmed and not yet in game cars that look interesting.

^How can anyone say this is not a delicious car list? It actually is great and way more attractive than what PD has offered since the launch of GT6. Packaging will probably be a bit more mixed and combined by years/decades i think.

PS: The Alpine A442B is actually a le mans prototype car, not a street car
PPS: The RUF RT12-R on the other hand is a street car :-)
