To correct this assumption.....

They made clear for pCARS 2 funding that they DIDN'T need any crowdfunding support, however they opened up limited funding options because they saw many benefits to the WMD process during pCARS 1. This time round far fewer people signed up (the entry fee was a lot higher too), and it's just guys who are interested in the actual game building process who are on board.

Now nobody can accuse pCARS 1 of being "abandonware", as patch 7.0 and a big pile of DLC clearly demonstrates. Yes, it's a shame that they didn't get everything in, but we don't have the full picture as to why choices were made for adding or dropping content, so it's hard to judge. I still think SMS have been VERY brave showing off their game "warts and all" during development, with all those hundreds of daily builds. Very few early access processes offer anywhere near that level of interaction. The fact that SMS have been unable to include everything we playtested is obviously painful for us, but it's clearly nothing unusual in an industry where licensing is not always easy to arrange.

For the record: I signed up as a pCARS 2 backer, despite not being a huge fan of pCARS 1 (it's a good game, but there are other games out there which I prefer). For me, the backer "investment" in pCARS 2 is purely watching the game grow, testing out those loose surface physics which is the headline feature. Whether the game is good or not, I will have got my money's worth during the years of development, exactly as I did for pCARS 1.
Ohhh I didn't know that sorry, thank you for correcting me, like I said I do like PCars it's just a shame it has gone the way it has after all the hype I still enjoy it though and will continue to do so!

[To give a comparison: People were able to mod DiRT 3 car models into DiRT Rally recently. Those car models are clearly available to Codemasters, however they were unable to secure licensing for those cars in DiRT Rally. I'm sure they had all those models up and running in game during development, but sadly had to take them out. If the community had playtested cars like the Renault Turbo or Saab and then not got those cars at release it would have caused the same reaction. But Codemasters gave us only polished early access content which they were sure would make the final game, SMS gave us absolutely everything they had available]

Any idea on how much they have raised?

The pCARS 2 WMD site doesn't list funding levels or targets. That really wasn't important, not sure why it was shown briefly early on when backers were signing up.

I'd estimate that there are close to 10,000 pCARS 2 backers. Certainly more than 5,000.

Wooooooooooo , another big disappointment. ....... no Old Spa , Monza or Solitude .

Jezus .......this man got big talents ( Ian Bell ) , he now's damn good how to lies to his costumers .

I hear you. All I can say is: We WMD members were mislead as well as you were, we relied on the word of that man and we re left standing in the rain just as well. All I can say is: Be very careful to trust SMS/Ian Bell, be sure to only buy pcars2 if they actually put up this time around and the game is complete, good and actually working without catastrophic bugs at launch.

Oh and for the record: I got banned at the official forum for saying that I will uninstall pcars because taking away Solitude is the final straw and I m tired of all the broken promises. I also thanked him for making us waste huge amounts of time and money to get them references for the track. Nope, Ian doesnt like to be confronted with his own sweet talk.

Nice one mate, you know the saying bell by name :gtpflag:

EDIT: i still love the game and for the sense of real racing its magic
its just a shame its not "fit for purpose" when the bugs take hold. Just like SHIFT2

Yeah I feel for the WMD guys that have been treated like yourself. I've seen a few at the official forum treated like crap for going against the grain and not towing the company line. No doubt many more were banned as I haven't seen a few of the ones that voiced their concerns for a while now.

I can't believe you got banned for something so bloody small. That's no way to treat a customer, much less one who was also a financial backer of the game, and who helped in the development.

The difference there is that Codies never promised those cars, or even suggested they would be coming to the game. SMS flat out promised multiple times that oval racing would be in Pcars, hell it's even on their website! They promised the animated pit crews, and there's even a picture of them on the game case. Ian himself referenced historic Monza as coming soon, and the entire community were led to believe Spa and Solitude were coming too.

I've ripped on Codies in the past when they've made dodgy games or business decisions, but I don't remember them ever making such a big mess of any of their games as SMS has done with Pcars. Sure, Pcars is still a great game, in that it has so much potential, and the core physics, bar some bugs, are great, and I still love playing it. However, with all of these bugs still lingering, and patches seemingly producing just as many as they get rid of, the game will never be bug free, or even close. Also, with the news of all of these features and all of this content now not coming to the game, I feel the amazing potential the game has will never be realised.

The worst thing for SMS is that if PD can actually deliver, or even get close, on the frankly massive claims they're making on their website about GTS' physics being the most realistic ever in a racing game, then GTS will make Pcars look like NFS Shift all over again by comparison. This would be a problem for SMS because the majority of Pcars' sales were on PS4, so if the game doesn't get much better, and GTS hits it's targets, Pcars 2 likely won't sell well on PS4.

Edit: That scenario isn't a stretch really either if you think about it. GTS will guaranteed have much better graphics, hell Pcars isn't much better than GT6. GTS will obviously have a lot more cars, and no doubt will have more tracks. All GTS needs is proper sim physics, and great AI and sound (all of those things are big weaknesses of GT6 that PD acknowledged and are saying have been completely re-done for GTS), and it would blow Pcars away.

Fair points. And as a comparison, GT5/6 blew away Shift 1/2 for me. But pCARS is a whole lot better than shift, especially the lack of floatiness or input lag.

If PD get their act together GTS will dominate 2016/17 for many of us GTPlanet denizens, and it won't really matter what else comes out. Here's hoping :)

Well the good news is there's competition on the market, means everyone in this genre of game needs to step up, otherwise the best will prevail,

I'm really enjoying this Renault pack, a lot more then I thought I would,

Yeah for sure, I agree 100%.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting GTS to be all they're claiming it will be, but they do seem much more bold about their claims of realism than ever before, and coupled to their partnership with the FIA, I think if GT is ever going to hit that mark and make a comeback to the top of the sim mountain, then it will be with GTS and GT7.

I agree on shift vs Pcars, but consider first how much progress they made with Pcars compared to Shift 1+2 and Test Drive: FRL, and then consider how many similarities there are in those games, in the messy coding they all had that resulted in very buggy games that seemingly never got better with patches, so SMS clearly haven't learned all the lessons they should have from their past.

Despite still doing poor coding, Pcars is enormously better than Shift 2, so how much more can we expect from PD? Their last game was disappointing, and basically a slightly updated GT5. However, that was a last gen game, and now they've had years to work on a game for this gen, and they've been focusing on the weaknesses of their previous titles. If a small dev like SMS can make the strides they did between Shift 2 and Pcars, what can a massive first party dev like PD do?

Lets be honest even their glass of dirty water is far better than anything else on consoles in the last 10 years.

Im sure the stuff held back will make pcars 2 even better.

Well, the game and the racing is still great, there is no doubt about it. But man, how many glory features were promised (or at least worked and developed on) to come to the game? And now barely any of those even make this game at all. This is what I am disappointed about.

Reading the last 2-3 pages here ,is a huge dissapointment for me personally. I only bought the game because of the promise of Nascar and ovals been in the game at some point

Yes i like doing road courses but Ovals are an easy starting point for many new drivers or tuners and for this reason they are a melting pot of activity ,sure some people find them boring ,but having the variation of most motor sports covered is a huge attraction and probably the reason why GT lasted aslong as it did

I'm not a big fan of oval racing, that much has been established in the past, but even I was looking forward to the oval racing in Pcars, as it's so different to what we have, and having choice of different disciplines is never a bad thing.

no monza and no spa is a big letdown.
well basically i'm done with dlc as i'm not interested in random cars and i've almost completed the career mode.
At the end of the day the best dlc was the limited edition one with proper invitational events in the career mode.
I skipped all the others except for audi and lotus historic.

Best for me was the Racing Icons Pack. It's something personal cause Clk-GTR was always my favourite car and I can still remember watching FIA GT back then. MCLaren F1 GTR was also great.
Audi Pack was good car wise, but Ruapuna was a bad and forgettable circuit.
Here is hoping they end the DLC supply with Macau.

Not interested in any DLC, for me there's enough content in the game already. I was interested in a solid experience, especially online. P CARS didn't deliver that, & I doubt that P CARS 2 will either. When the second game sells well under 50,000 copies, I think SMS will have to rethink their hardline banhammer strategy, & start treating their customers better.

Not a fan of ovals myself, but it seems like they outta be able to stick one in the game for the people that do.
Track Building 101: The Oval Track.:odd:

There is an Oval test track which was released as DLC ,but you cannot race on it ,nor is their a start/finish line so you cannot lap it either ,so in my view they failed 101 lol

TBF he didn't say ovals are definitely 100% scrapped for pCARS1, just that they're having problems with their AI on ovals (they can be terrible at any current track as we all know) but didn't Ian mention last night that they had an idea as to how they might get it working?

I also asked him if there was a chance the infields would be released but he chose not to answer that one at all.

It's strange though, as on Monday this week, Andy Tudor of SMS tweeted that in 2016, we would have "cars that go in circles" (IndyCar/Nascar) and "cars that go sideways" (Drift cars). Has everything changed therefore in just 2 days?

That rumoured Xmas present i thought was coming seems to be just bad news, nothing else, what a disapointment! :(

I understand you're upset and why and I'm not saying you shouldn't be, but it's completely unfair to leave out Ian's response to your post:

Are SMS out-right liars, ambitious beyond ability, or BOTH?
Are you flame baiting, trolling, or both?

If they sell 50,000 copies they'll be looking for new jobs not re-thinking their banning strategy:lol:

Here's the answer for DLC support:ill: in case it hasn't been posted:

You don't put Something on the official website and then say it's not coming even though it's listed on the website. If you go on there it clearly says that they will be bringing Modern tracks, classic tracks and ovals. OVALS. That's what im pissed off about. I mean yea they got an idea about how they can add them but until i actually see it in game im gonna remain upset. Also i feel bad for the guys that wanted Classic spa and monza. Man after getting some great DLC yesterday things went down hill fast.

Its at this very moment im glad I didn't fall into the investment trap, when they launched the crowd funding proposal I was in a situation to invest with around $6000 AUD, and the fact that ovals may not come because of AI is ludicrous, you can still use it in free practice and you can use it online,

On another note, did anyone ask about Macau???

Fair does. For the record, I didnt see that response when I posted here... due to being banned and all, you know. :D I have been forwarded to that reply in the meantime and actually I sent Ian an invoice just a few moments ago. Lets see if he is up to his word this time. Not that a few Euros will heal the wounds of not getting Solitude despite doing all we could.

Wait, classic Spa & Solitude were cancelled & dlc will end in 4 months allready ?

WHAT THE **** SMS !!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

P-Cars is turning out to be one big SCAM. I won't buy another game just to get content that was announced & teased for the first one.

Uninstalled & goodbye SlightlyMadScammers. 👍

Sorry for the repeated question but how do I access the special events on career mode? Playing for only a week and the Renault is my only paid DLC. Right now in career i only have access to the current championship. If I create a new driver still can't see the special events.

Talking about GTS having better physics than pcars, I doubt it. As a long time gt gamer I can appreciate how gt can make you believe you can actually drive a racing car a crazy speed. But going to pcars taught me how wrong I was. For the masses gt approach is more appealing.

You're glad you didn't fall into the investment trap of earning a handsome return on your investment?

Fair enough. I'm quite disappointed myself with the way things have turned out, and I'm sure it's much worse for you.

You do realise that 4 months will be a full year of DLC. That's as much as you ever get from a Forza game, and pretty standard in the industry.

I'm not sure why this is a bad thing... Loads of games don't get anywhere near that amount of DLC support....
I daresay that people are more concerned about the promised features and content that are not coming, along with a withdrawl of support around the bug and glitch fixes. Also, wasn't 2 years of DLC mentioned somewhere?
