Because unless you have actual racing shoes that have a really thin sole, socks are the next best thing in terms of feeling the pedals and being precise with them. Or being barefoot but thats for squares.
No one drives the real thing in socks though. I'd personally just wear shoes if I had a wheel, after all I couldn't see me driving even a real car with racing shoes at all.

Trust me dude it feels a lot more comfortable and more importantly precise with socks, real racing shoes (if you have them), and/or your bare feet rather than shoes. I've tried with my standard skate shoes and I often find my self applying too much or too little throttle due to a lack of feeling.

But that's exactly like real life. You're paying a few hundred for a steering wheel in the name of simulation, surely choosing not to wear shoes defeats the purpose?

A sock is closer to the real feeling of a racing shoe than a regular shoe would be, buying real racing shoes would be the best option I suppose.

In an every day regular vehicle it doesn't matter, on the track when you are trying to be precise then yes, it does. No professional race driving gets done in regular shoes. I drive my work van in my steel capped work boots and it's no problem. I've never even tried driving my GT-Four in work boots, even in running shoes I find it difficult to drive it, I have some thin-soled shoes when I drive it normally.

Apologies and I'm sure someone would have asked this questions before...

Anyone know if the point-to-point courses in PCars based on real roads or they are purely fictional?

And are all real life tracks laser-scanned or only some?

This, basically what I've been trying to say.

I drive with Havaianas (Flip Flops/Thongs). Not sure how much it feels like racing shoes but hell feels comfortable and no better ventilation. I guess it's an Aussie thing lol

Why does no one who uses a wheel wear shoes? Like literally no one.
I guess i was a little too cryptic. I was actually referring to "knocking your socks off" because the video was so awesome.
And I wear slippers when I drive not socks.

@GranTurismo guy -- My G25's pedals are a little too closely spaced for me to race effectively in shoes. They're also not terribly high effort, the only feedback is the spring, and if you don't have a dedicated setup they're liable to be kicked out of position. Shoes mute any immersion there is to be had.

Why would anything not true to life "defeat the purpose" of a wheel, anyway? It's just another type of controller.

i found mens speedo swim shoes at wal-mart that the soals are alot like racing shoes. they work great with my clubsport pedals. great feel, not much thicker then socks.

like these.

A little sampler...if you have socks on, they will be off after you watch this:lol:

Makes Zahara look like Ridge Racer:eek:

Firstly, let me just say: That was some Amazing Driving, the level concentration that must be maintained is nuts.

Second: Im not too crazy about all that sun glare, its just too much IMHO, I understand they are going for realism but I can’t even see the track at times, but I must say again, you did an amazing job staying on course.
