You know, PCars not having any Mod support is actually a good thing, would be awful if tracks you downloaded ended up in the AI being in massive accidents every race and causing half the race to be put under a safety car (If/when safety cars are added.

(30 minute race practically brought down to 12 minutes due to safety car)

So, what do you guys make of this EmptyBox tweet?

I don't know but something's up with him. Look at his latest tweets:

Which is the problem. There's very few reviewers or anyone of the ilk that I really trust the opinion of. Eurogamer UK are about the closest to being reliable and honest to me.

What he's said about the AI has been echoed by a few others around. And comparing to what other sims have on offer, especially those that have laser scanned tracks, the tracks are going to suffer.

That said, the thing you always need to remember with EB is that it's his opinion, something he does point out. Also project cars, to me, seems like it's going to have greater success on the console market than the PC market. To your average joe racer who wants something a little bit more organised than what GT or FM offer PCars will be a godsend. On the PC however you have Pcars entering into a very saturated market, one that has some heavy hitters with a lot of time and money invested into their products. Further to that Pcars is also not modable, something that would turn many PC guys off

Sorry, but isn't emptybox the guy that thinks iracing still has the best physics ever, despite many people saying (and backing up) that it's actually outdated now and bettered by AC and such?

Yeah, I'm not gonna listen to him.

Matt Orr's opinion is not that important. As is the Hardcore PC sim racing crowd in general. They are not many in the grand perspective (~85k, going by iRacing Member Numbers, AC is somwhere around 300k, but huge difference between owners and active players for them) and love to separate themselves from anything 'Mainstream'. Even if not a single one of them is buying PCars, nothing will happen, except them missing out a great, realistic racing game.

Yeah, I'm not gonna listen to him.

My main gripe with this guy comes from that idea that a race car should be almost impossible to drive. He's an embodyment of this notion.

But his ideas could influence casual buyers.

Back then, when i was living in the casual world so to speak, i had no idea about this whole subculture and their opinion makers. I think this is still the case for the general audience. He is not Pewdipie, Squirrel or TotalBisquit.

Plus he is a WMD member, never reported bugs in 3 yrs, never asked for a refund and will recieve his share of the revenues ofc.

All of empty boxes negative points are valid and he is of course entitled to his opinion. pcars is not going to be perfect day 1 and I m happy that the devs are committed to further improvement after release, because to become that perfect racing game, that is needed. But I dont agree with his overall verdict, at all.

Compare it to Assetto Corsa at launch.
Compare it to iRacing at launch.
Compare it to RRRE at launch.

With all of those games, it was well known from the start that there would be further development after release and with pcars it is the same. Only that pcars is the much better package then all of those (even all of those combined, actually). And most of all:

pcars is still bloody good fun on the track. With some mates online and the right car/track combo it is already very close to said perfect racing sim. The rest will come over time.

PS: And I should say that I also disagree with some of his individual points. I m about 3 seconds slower per lap than the aliens at WMD and I struggle to keep up with the AI often. There are some tracks where the AI are a bit slow but that is known and acknowledged by the devs and will be improved.

Yeah, I'm not gonna listen to him.

He has said many MANY times that this is NOT his view...

Are we really at the stage where we're going to slate anyone who has a negative OPINION of the game, before many of us have even had a chance to try it ourselves? Because that's approaching fanboi territory....

Are they? He said the physics were simcade-y

Backed by nothing...so opinion. In the Video above he praised the throttle response and the FFB being 'a million times better than iRacing/AC'...also opinion, just more pleasing. You will find other sim racers telling you the exact opposite.

Then why on earth does he say "this isn't on iracing/ rfactor's level"?

And why is it fanboy-ish to dismiss stuff that is clearly not the case?

You see? Contradictions are part of presenting opinions and being subjective. Nothing to get hyped or worried about.

Says the one who plays iRacing, Game Stock Car and rFactor. All of them have no career mode at all, awfully modded/modeled tracks (besides iRacing) and DX7/DX9 graphics. ;)
I like Matt, I think he's very funny and can be informative when he wants to be, I'm a subscriber to his channel, but it is laughable to criticize Project Cars for the things that the games he loves don't have either. Graphics, career mode etc.

True, but a lot of people will take his opinion as fact.
Some will listen but most people will seek out other reviews and they won't be quite so negative. Matt has been pretty clear in the past that he thinks there are a lot of positive with the game but he doesn't think it's a hardcore sim, mainly because the grip fall off is not quite as abrupt as it is in the games he likes. iRacing for example. His last review of the game showed him battling with the AI and losing, so I'm not sure how you could say they were too easy. The graphics complaints as I said above, are also laughable given his game preferences as well.

Wouldn't be surprised if his main gripe with pCARS is because it is making an attempt to bring more realistic sim physics and experiences to a wider audience. He is a great youtuber and all but seems to suffer from elitism from remarks he has made in the past.
