Im more looking forward to Pcars 2 more aswell...no dynamic weather is just one of the glaring omissions from GTS.

Il be back fully on Pcars soon, when im done with Dirt Rally...ive missed the game tbh.
Forza 6 also didnt have dynamic weather. Just saying ;)

Hold on. When did we get flat tyres? I never experienced one with a race car but, I'm driving the Satnceworks 1-series and went to brake for Turn 1 at Donnington National and skidded off the track.

I don't spend much time on SMS forum, so I don't know any history or context related to that user and his post. It would be disappointing if SMS moderator banned that user just for that one post.

Example: You posting this message. Ok, not a big deal as long as it doesn't start forum war/bashing. But now that I see you posted the exact same message in here, Assetto Corsa and GTS forums of GTP... Is that really necessary? Don't be surprised if GTP mod advises/warns you.

Those guys need to chill. Guy asked about (and not aggressively) the console patch and is called a drama queen. Unless I'm missing something, that's a bit extreme.

He insinuated that SMS doesn't care about consoles (or console users). SMS (and the mods) really doesn't like those kind of unfounded accusations.

Gotta love how people reduce career races to something silly like 10% and then complain that the weather changes are crazy. What did they expect?

I guess it depends on how you say it. I reported a bug with the 1st pitbox on the new combined track and was thanked for reporting it. It was also fixed in the next patch.

I find it very interesting how my attention switches between the main PC sims as time goes by and patches/content change them relative to each other.

Right now pCARS has graduated into my "go to" sim for actually racing the AI, which is something I really didn't expect a few months ago.

Here's my summary of AI for my 3 main PC sims, should anyone be curious:
  • Assetto Corsa AI is still lacking awareness and not great when bunched up at the start of the race. They were updated in recent patches to at least drive alongside the player (previously they backed out and gave you the spot by default) but seem to stick to their line too aggressively without willingness to evade sufficiently. Thankfully collisions are well handled and don't result in the player being speared off the road by default, but a little more awareness and evasion is needed for it to feel "natural" to drive against them. Furthermore, AC tends to limit grids on all tracks to around 24, which is a lot lower than the other two.
So AC is clearly making improvements, but not enough to get AC to the top of the pile.
  • Raceroom appear to have dumbed down their AI since upgrading it to handle 100 car grids last month. Previously it was good at handling first corner bunching, and could be guaranteed to offer close racing. Now I'm finding silly amounts of braking needed to get through the first few corners (sometimes half the grid stops completely before they sort themselves out), and then the AI tends to string out too quickly meaning less close racing than before. The AI are still aware of the player, and good to race 1-on-1, just less so than before the update in my opinion.
  • pCARS AI (on PC) certainly isn't perfect, but it handles first corner mayhem better than the other two right now. And the grid tends to stay closer together longer which means more interesting close racing. If the divebombing and silly veering (on some cars) were brought under control it would be the clear leader of the three. As it is, pCARS has the best compromise for the moment, until one of the others gets a patch and the order is changed again.
pCARS also has the ace up it's sleeve: Dynamic weather which totally changes races. Again, not perfect, but when it gets things right it's a blast.

I'm in a different place with these sims/games. I generally ignore the careers and pretty much never race the AI. My fun is found almost totally in time trials. I really enjoy just picking a car, a track and maybe some conditions and then just trying to better my own times. That being the case, I've not really found many console games that really fit my preferences. What I'm primarily interested in is a really interesting selection of cars and tracks with good, dynamic and challenging driving physics. The Gran Turismo series has come closest over the years, but the whole in-game currency thing and license tests and so forth I just find irritating really.

I've had PCars now for a couple weeks and I'm pretty confident in proclaiming it the perfect game for what I like to do. It has a fantastic car list! Really really great variety and lots of nice classics. It also has a great track list even including a few point to point tracks. It also has really nice physics. On top of that, it's all unlocked and available to me right from the start so I don't need to waste precious gaming time working through some tedious career to get access to all the content!

Now it helps that I got the "complete" edition for $32 thanks to the 20% off coupon with the PS4 of course! That's a nice pile of content for a nice price! :D

Not trying to derail the thread, but I thought it worth mentioning that while pCARS is a good all-rounder, it's not the best time trialling sim for me at least: If you like time trialling, then Assetto Corsa (now on PC, August on PS4) is a real must.

The strength of AC is in getting the feeling of car on road and the communication towards the driver so "natural". It communicates what the car is doing effortlessly, and you always understand why the car does what it does, and usually have so much information that you can easily correct. This FFB is combined by really getting each car feeling unique (physics, visually and audibly) and of course all tracks being laser scans (especially Nordschleife) for that extra level of surface detail. Most of my multi-hundred hours of driving in AC have been time trial, because that's where it really shines.

(PC statements, not sure how they will reach the PS4): AC automatically records your fastest lap on any car+track combo, automatically saves that fastest lap to be your ghost for the next run, and has a delta UI app which shows you exactly how you are matching up to your ghost. It also uploads your fastest laptimes for each car+track combo to compare against people on your Steam friends list (and there are 3rd party apps to compare against others who also use those apps if you so desire, or you can just ignore others and focus on your own times).

pCARS in comparison has a decent time trial mode, but because it is such a jack-of-all-trades it lags slightly behind AC for the connoisseur of time trial :)

Yeah I can appreciate some of what you say. I'm on PS4 though and using the DS4 only. Great FF will be lost on me. That said, I do find the feeling of rubber on the road to be pretty fantastic in PCars even on the DS4. I have some nice DS4 controller settings I'm planning to post that to me anyway really smooth out the twitchies and make the game much more enjoyable with the controller. As far as laser scanning of tracks goes, I think it's awesome - used to be an Iracing subscriber. However, I don't really "miss" it when it isn't there. It certainly makes for a great track surface, but I've never driven a lap on any of these tracks in real life so I don't really know where the bumps are. :D I wish I could change the track conditions in PCars in the TT mode, but I understand why they don't allow that and I'm OK with it. I also wish I could filter the leader boards based on individual cars.

I'm not real familiar with AC but Something tells me it likely won't have quite the nice selection of cars and tracks PCars does in the end either. It's also not out yet so it's not really much of a competitor for my attention at this point. :)

Depends on your priorities:
- If you like race cars then pCARS has by far the better selection. Great set of cars in there which put every other race sim to shame (especially including all the DLC).
- If you want road (sports and supercars), then AC has the best selection outside of Gran Turismo. AC actually has Ferrari and Lamborghini licenses, which is obviously unheard of except in Gran Turismo / Forza / Need for Speed.
- In terms of tracks, obviously pCARS has an awesome track list. In that respect it's way ahead of AC except for those few tracks where the lack of laser scan really hurts (most notably for me being Silverstone where they created the model before the rebuild was finished and never got it 100% right, and Nordschleife where the camber of too many corners is subtly lacking compared to AC/Raceroom/iRacing with their identical laser scans).

I would love to drive pCARS cars and physics on GT6's tracks. There are some great ones that GT6 has that pCARS doesn't. Twin Ring Motegi Road Course and East Course come to mind. Red Bull Ring, Ascari Full Track, and some original's like Mid-Field and Apricot Hill of course.

You might want to look into PC sims + mods for that.
I got rFactor a few months ago, I've been downloading tracks, I have 140 track locations so far. Aside from Nordschleife, La Sarthe & Ascari I got all real track locations from PCars & GT6, as well as a few original locations from GT6. I also got a few street tracks from Shift 2 & Grid.

I really enjoy racing against the AI on 100% difficulty and being 3+ seconds a lap faster than them in some cars.

Where's the challenge, and why can't I go above 100% to compensate for them being slow?

Maybe you can try being behind by about 7-8 seconds at the beginning of a race.I find the AI usually slower when they are behind you than ahead of you(playing at 92%).Like when I'm only Nurburgring Nordscheleife using Road C2 cars, from two times I play with once ahead of an AI car and once behind respectively, there could be about 15-20 seconds difference in their lap time.I know this is awkward but you might give it a try lol.

Anyone coming from GT should be used to that.
Seriously though, could you post what car, track, race conditions you're using that makes the AI unchallenging at 100%?
The only time I found them completely unchallenging at 100% was in the Superkarts.
I've had some races at 100% where it is almost impossible to run at their pace for the whole race.

I am not up to 100%, far from it in fact but:

Nordschleife 24 hours layout, GT4 , AI 70 % -> finish in top 5
Nordschleife 24 hours layout, GT3, AI 70 %-> finish top 12
Nordschleife 24 hours layout, Touring Group A, AI 70% -> finish top 15

I find that there is a real big difference in performance from the AI depending class and track.

I am a bit baffled,

Did a 3 lapper with the Corvette GT3 in Zolder with AI set to 70% and one race with the AI set to 85%. The only difference I noticed is that the 85% AI is much more agressive but not faster. The 70% AI is much nicer to race against and they seem less prone to slam into the player.

Is anyone else experiencing the same or am I imagining things?

Exact settings:
  • GT3
  • Corvette C7 GT3
  • Track: Zolder
  • Standing start
  • Position 14
  • 20 car grid
  • Time x30
  • Starttime 16.00
  • Fuel: real
  • Tires: x5
  • Damage: real
  • Aids: real
Btw: same issue when running 5 or 10 laps.
