Proud new owner of a 2008 GLI Autobahn package

If you want an SN95, stay away from the '96-'98 GT basically. It's not that it's a bad car or engine, but for the price range, there's better to be had. The 5.0 has an aftermarket and a half, along with the 4.6 2v, 3v and 4v. The 2v was on the '99-'04 GT's, the 3v is the 2005-2010 GT, 4v is any '99+ cobra/mach one and undoubtably the BEST modular to have.

The 4.6 came in 4 different varieties. There's the 4.6 from '96 which was the first iteration, ofter referred to as the Non-PI 4.6. Then the 4.6 2v from '99-'04. I'm not sure what this added, but this is considered the PI(Performance Improved) 4.6. It made 260hp, and a gobs of torque. The 4.6 3v was in the 2005-2010 Mustang. It has 3 valves per cylinder. The 4.6 4v (after further research) was used in all Mustang Cobras from '96-'04, and the Mach 1 in '03-'04. It has 4 valves per cylinder, and the most power potential of the 4.6s. The 4v's are all DOHC engines, the other 3 are SOHC

Did that help at all?

Technically the non-PI motors are still 2V.

And apparently, going from a non-PI 2V motor to a newer 3V is a bit odd, the 3V cars are overall quicker but the older motors had better low-end torque.

PI vs non-PI is heads, cams, and intake.

A PI 2v to a 3 valve is a pretty extensive easy swap for just the engine, but the accesories are ALL different I think. I saw a thread on one, and it's quite lengthy.

So I was on Mustangforums.com and there is a plethora of gt's for sale and I am really surprised on how cheap they are. There is a 99 gt with 16k miles for 9.5 and theres an 03 with 57k for 8k. Both with a few bolts ons and maybe a few internal mods, very clean car. The older ones are a lot cheaper, these are two of the more expensive examples that don't have forced induction. I have always had a huge love for mustangs but never explored the forums because of my obsession with vw's over the last year or so, plus I don't like the 05+ models so my love kinda went dormant. But this is definitely going to change my choices on what I want. Thanks mustangGT90210 for unknowingly get me to get in touch with my old friend the mustang ;).

edit:sorry for double post

Update! I just check my classified thread on vwvortex.com I put up a while ago and I have an offer for 16k on my car. If its cash I’ll take the offer. I owe like 17k on my car so I am willing to pay the difference because it will save me the thousands in payments I still owe. I will keep you updated.
In light of that I have a revised car option list. If someone could help me clarify what average prices are with the 300zx, I6 3 series’ and Wrx that would be great.
Top 5 options in order
1. Volkswagen Gti/glx markIII 2. Subaru Imprezza WRX (pre 2006)
3. Dodge Srt-4 (04-05) 4. Ford Mustang gt (SN95, fox body)
5. BMW 3 series e36, e30 (possibly m3)
Honorable mentions go to... Nissan 300zx twin turbo :sly: Chevrolet Corvette c4
3rd gen Camaro (ttops only :))

Noooo I mean getting out of a 96-8 and into an 05+0

I guess I totally mis read that whole thing than huh:dunce:? lol

If you want an E36 M3, they're worth less than $10k on enthusiast forums. Azuremen got his for around $6k and it's perfectly fine.

But there is a $12k rule to worry about. For a lot of them, you'll end up having to shell out $12km no matter what you buy. If it's a $10k car, you'll have to spend $2k fixing it up. But I'm sure some of the ones driven by enthusiasts will be in better shape.

With a WRX, you're probably looking at around $12k as well. When I was looking, I was having a really hard time finding anything under $10k.

Even with the older rex's?

Well I was looking almost exclusively at wagons in Seattle during the recession... Subarus and wagons are pretty big here and the recession meant everyone wanted to go used instead of new. So they were very in demand cars.

You can probably find them for less, especially if you're willing to go with a sedan. Just watch out because a lot of them will be pretty beaten on.

Idk, besides the miata and the rx7 I despise mazda. I really have no reason but I don't like them and I need something with oopmh and personality and I feel like all new mazdas like the 3 and 6 lack that

A first generation Mazda6 has more personality than a third generation Miata (though not as much as the first and second gen Miatas).

Eh, I cant open up too the mazda 6, around here its a tool bag car. Every kid I met in the last year or so is a douchebag and it had turned me off to it, the mazda 3 hatch is a guido car. I dont do mazdas lol. Maybe its just because I live in New Jersey?

Edit: Another person offered me 17k on my car last night. Its actually a friend from high school so we will see how it goes today, he seems pretty interested!

I should have been more precise, but yeah I don't count those 4 bangers as proper 'stang engines anyway.

I am also starting to search more and more for possible new cars. A friend from school offered me 17k cash for my car and if he doesn't change his mind the gti should be gone a bit after new years. Just thinking about it puts a lump in my throat but it is too much for me. It is going to a fellow dubber and I know it will be in good hands. Plus without the lease restrictions my car will really be able to be free. Ugh I'm a weird mixture of excitement and devastation, very hard to describe.

New info! If all goes well and my car gets sold I will have 4 grand for another car. I am really veering towards a mark 3 vr6 jetta because of my horrid driving record. A jetta would be a lot better on insurance and i really need to revise my option of car list lol. So I am looking around at mark 3 vr jettas now on vwvortex because there still fun, handle well and quick, while being okay on insurance.

Get a Corrado.:)

I just saw that you were searching for another VDub and I figured that I would give you my 2 cents. The jetta is good choice for sure. For some reason I have always been a fan, they have a ton of potential. My freind's brother used to have a turbo VR6 with 408 horsepower, it was nuts. Or you can go with a Corrado like I did. I love mine, even when it decides not to work. They are unique, handle great, and they just all around good fun. If you need any help or have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks man, I really want a corrado but the thing is I have a horrid record and as of now am trying to aim for something not so sporty looking, so I have narrowed it down to the mk3 vr6 Jetta, or maybe a e36 325 4 door.

Still looking at future cars because I want to be positive on what my next car will be when the time comes. I have been thinking about a few more cars and what your input. For cash I am going to have about 5k or so put put up and here are my updated choices.

So here is the 3 that I know I want.
-95-98 VR6 GTI

-94-98 Mustang GT (convertible)

-93-97 LT1 Camaro (t-tops or conv.)

But I am interested in a few other cars I know little about, and would like some more input on little things from fuel consumption, ride quality, handling, gear boxes, etc.
-Mitsubishi 3000gt (VR4?)
ie46yg.jpg

-Nissan 300zx (t-tops or conv.) I don't necessarily really care if its turbo'd or not

-(maybe) mk2 Mr2?

I have driven a 3000gt sl (aka the ff 4cyl model) and I thought it was a pretty sweet car. What I noticed was that the cockpit was pretty tight and the center console was pretty big. A little cramped for my taste but it was a pretty cool car non the less. Of course the 4 cyl model I drove wasn't a rocket ship but it was definitely not a grandmas grocery getter. I can only imagine what kind of punch the vr4 model would pack. I have no idea what the track record of these cars are as in reliability, does anyone know?

I have only had an up close look at a 300zx once and it was a non-turbo convertible model. I really loved the interior and I have always love what they looked like. Over all I can totally see myself in one and think it would be a great next car.👍 I just want to know info on both the turbo and n/a engines and reliability and what not.

Never got a look at the mk2 mr2's but my good friend just picked up I believe an mk1 mr2 project/trackday car and I am getting a closer look this weekend when I get home from college. I don't know if the older model is really for me even though it looks like an awesome car but its just too old. I am going to give it a whirl this weekend and see how a mid-engined vehicle handles because the newer one cant be too far off. (prove me wrong?)

I'll wait for Keef to abuse the SW MR2.

But I'll abuse the 4th gen and Fox 'verts. (Yeah yeah you're looking at an SN95, it's still a Fox)

Avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid. Chassis flex is bad enough in the case of the 4th gen and gets worse with the 'vert, same with the Mustang although to a lesser degree.

Targa Tops I can understand, but why so keen on convertibles? A 300ZX and 3000GT will very likely be very high maintenance. You can't afford an LS1 Camaro targa top?

If you're going the 3000GT route, grab a VR4. The SL's are all heavy & with just above par performance. VR4s, though, will make for some up-and-go fun.
