...We like to blab about crap blah blah etc etc. These numbers are important to us because...???
Those are all reports from Microsoft, and do not represent actual sales - which are very accurately tracked by several accounting firms, all of which have reported total sales of 3.4 million units as of the end of November.
Duċk;2510983...
EDIT: How the heck did we even get started on this subject?!?
Probably because ,as I just discovered, if you go out trying to find this information you will find both stories. I also found places where both stories were retracted because of the debate over the facts.Duċk;2510983EDIT: How the heck did we even get started on this subject?!?
Is this rhetorical?Duċk;25109831. Why would Microsoft lie?
As you like Google, try Xbox 360 sales 3.4 million... and you know I said US.2. Show me a link (or links) saying that the 360 has sold 3.4 million units worldwide.
Bingo. 👍I will say this, manufacturers sell to retailers and as far as their accounting is concerned they have sold that product even though it is still sitting in a Best Buy warehouse somewhere. Because of this sales figures are always a bit suspicious because you don't know which one you are being told or if it is even a combination of the two.
I would be suspicious of Microsoft trying to fudge the numbers with whichever figure comes out higher because in a world of keeping up with the Joneses and living in a "me too" society making it sound like they are more popular will make them more popular. They just have to say, "Look kids, everyone has one. Jump on this bandwagon and get one too!" It is a great marketing ploy.
NPD Group is not only that, but one of the leading sales tracking firms in the world. They are also not the only ones reporting the 3.4 million sales figure. XB360 sales in Australia have totled only 110K, and are trailing off.So, until an independent agency reports the retail sales numbers I am waiting.
No. Are you saying that when MS said it's 6 million statistic, it was talking about units solds to stores or units sold to actual people? Is this rhetorical?
Sorry, I got my facts mixed up. Searched on Google, and I saw the 3.4 mil number, however, I couldn't find the stat that said that 75% of 360s were sold in the US. Show me a link (search suggestions do not count) about that 75% number coming from the NPD or whoever, then I'll believe you.As you like Google, try Xbox 360 sales 3.4 million... and you know I said US.

The answers to all of these questions are in my posts above, including a reference to the 2006Q3 report from NPD, which is a subscription, but you may be able to find a copy online.Duċk;2511042No. Are you saying that when MS said it's 6 million statistic, it was talking about units solds to stores or units sold to actual people?

Microsoft tried to get back in the public eye yesterday by issuing a press release boasting about Xbox 360's "highest grossing week of console hardware sales in Australia since it launched in March".
GfK figures show that around $2.6 million worth of Xbox 360 consoles were sold in the week ending 13 December - a week in which Nintendo enjoyed a spectacularly successful Wii launch.
It sounds impressive, but if you do the math, Microsoft's figure equates to sales of between 4000 and 5000 consoles - hardly spectacular stuff in the lead-up to Christmas, especially with Wii drawing people into stores, Nintendo short of stock, and PlayStation 3 still at least a few months away.
The real story is that Nintendo sold over 32,000 Wii consoles in just four days, breaking 360's record for the biggest console launch in Australia. And if Nintendo had enough stock, there's every indication that Wii would very quickly challenge 360's installed base (currently around 110,000 consoles).
Of course, PlayStation 2 also continues to outsell 360 by a very large margin (over 11,000 consoles sold last week) as well as enjoying the lion's share of software sales in the current games market. Even the much-maligned PSP matched 360's sales last week, selling 4,500 units.
Even more worrying for Microsoft is that globally, 360 has not even measured up to the original Xbox console's sales.
In October, Microsoft had shipped six million 360 consoles, significantly lower than the original machine's nine million over the same period three years ago.
The 360 is a fine machine with many quality games, but Microsoft should be concentrating on widening their software catalogue and getting the console's price down rather than trying to mislead consumers that it is breaking records.
Last week's best selling game in Australia was (unsurprisingly) Zelda Twilight Princess for Wii.
The rest of the Top 10 was Need for Speed Carbon (PS2), WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 (PS2), Guitar Hero II (PS2), Cricket 2007 (PS2), The Sims 2 Pets (PC), Gears of War (360), EyeToy Sports (PS2), Buzz Junior Jungle Party (PS2) and Red Steel (Wii).
Quit kissing their arse,
..since the ps3 is more powerful..
I could easily be mistaken, but I thought the PS3 includes seperate hardware specifically for reading & running PS1 & PS2 games so wouldn't that mean there would be no real performance advanatge?but do you think its possible that since the ps3 is more powerful we may see faster rendering and better load times for some games?
👍👍Duċk;2511290If you're directing that towards me, then I seriously have to laugh.
That has yet to be proven, or even demonstrated.
Yeah, there's the EE and the GS in the PS3. We won't see any improvements to PS2 and PS1 games at all until Sony goes 100% emulation and that we see anti-aliasing and upscaling to 720p and 1080i and such (or could it be done on current hardware?).I could easily be mistaken, but I thought the PS3 includes seperate hardware specifically for reading & running PS1 & PS2 games so wouldn't that mean there would be no real performance advanatge?
I wouldn't be surprised at all if they put in Blu-ray readers or even burners in the Mac Pro, but I seriously doubt them cramming one of those in an iMac.I still try and keep up with some of the goings on at Apple, and I recently heard that they are developing a Blu-ray burner and new iMovie software for making 1920x1080 Blu-ray movies! I may wait for that to happen before switching.
So, we have seen all of these "skins" for the PS3, but is there any word on when they are releasing new colors for the PS3?
Well you can't exactly praise Sony now can you.Jeremy RicciMS lied about their numbers, can't we all just get over that already? Quit kissing their arse, MS is a group of douche bags, and saying they've SOLD 10 million is better than saying "well we've made 10 million, but no one is really buying them up".

That same mentality doubted video transfer over the internet.
Wow, I leave the forum for a few hours and now we're discussing the marketing plans of Apple in the PS3 General Discussion thread?
Let's pull in the reigns on this grossly off topic discussion and get back to the thread topic.
So did anyone try that GT4 replay I uploaded?
I didn't get that email, but I would like the link as well please.I received an email from Playstation.com this morning saying that reserving your Online ID for March is now available. Could someone give me the link to this? Hotmail and decided to remove all links and pictures from the email, and I cannot seem to find anything on it on their website.
Thanks.
Thanks for the link G.T, anyway I have just signed up to the sign up process with TVR_Fan as my account name.
