PS3 General Discussion

That has yet to be proven, or even demonstrated.

Yet not a single 360 game displays the technical mertis that MotorStorm boasts.

Deformable terrian? Check.
Collective mud? Check (15 cars on one track, this is a huge feat considering they all collect mud).
Car damage? Check (and not preproggy'd, it's based on collisions)
Amazing physics calc's? Double check (not one game on 360 displays the same amount of physics at one time. Not one).

I'm sorry, but until a 360 game does something besides pretty up what we've already seen, then it's not impressive. Even Resistance: Fall of Man, which doesn't look good by some of todays standards, goes above and beyond, offering a plethora of action, which not a single 360 game currently on the market can match. The amount of on screen enemies, interactive objects, bullets, and lighting (plus physics) and tons of AI sets are just unmatched. On the 360 I'm lucky to get around 15 people on the screen, and most of the time it's lower than 10, and the AI sets are pretty bland, PLUS there's not much going on.

I'm sorry, but "next gen" isn't about graphics, it's about everything else, and it seems like MS simply doesn't care, and Gears is a prime example that they are focused on pushing the boundries of the graphics, but ignoring expanding gameplay elements.

Wow, I leave the forum for a few hours and now we're discussing the marketing plans of Apple in the PS3 General Discussion thread?
...It seems that the Mac fanboy inside me got carried away. :guilty:

I saw that yesterday. And it's not for the US.

They better release that soon for us so I won't have to have "Racer1" at the end of everything.
What are you talking about because he's talking about PS1/PS2.

It sounded like he could've either been talking about PS1/2 games or PS3 games.

although microsoft havent realy advanced on physics of games etc i still believe that gears of war is an amazing game and still a great advancement on the original xbox and playstation 2 and dont get me wrong im no xbox fanboy infact i dislike them as i feel like they are just churning out consoles to get our money not to last a few years like playstation but they are still making advances in gaming

Well, all I can say is there is not one thing in Gears of War that I haven't seen before, or coudln't have seen on another console, aside from it's visuall presentation.

I could see all the physics / gameplay elements / AI in Gears on Xbox, easily, becuase they are not impressive.

I could not see PS2 games providing amazing terrain and physics with good AI, with a 15 car grid, nor could I see that on the X-Box. It just seems like either a) MS doesn't care about moving the gaming industry forward past grpahics, or b) they can't.

MS probably can't move it on beyond graphics. The main reason probably being because it's using just a standard controller, with buttons and triggers, like games have since the very start. Where as the Wii is something different, with the motion sensors. If they made the console have just as good graphics with that gameplay, then that would be truely next gen - and make it even more appealing as I personally don't like the Wii a lot due to its graphics being poor against the others. Graphics play a big role in gaming in my mind. I guess, again, it's personal preference.

Well, the PS3 is using a standard controller too...

Is anybody going to give me an answer?

Does sixaxis work on the ps2???

Sorry, I don't have a PS2 to test it on.

I gave mine away to the Best Buy employee who helped me purchase my PS3. One question though, why would you want to?

Because I have no controller for my Ps2 right now. I figure I'll get a sixaxis (are they even availible?) to use for ps2 until I get my ps3. That way, I'll have an extra controller.

I mean, otherwise I could just go buy a 5 dollar used controller.

Put it on your Christmas list so Santa will buy it.

"Santa" is going to hit me in the head if I ask "him" for another thing.

:) I hear ya! That would make since, especially at $49.99 for a controller and $15 for a usb cable, makes total sense. Well, if I had a PS2 to try it on I would. I'm sure someone else around here could help ya out.

Did the DS2 ever drop in price in the US? It hardly dropped more than a few pence here, so I hope the controller doesn't start at £30 and £8 for the USB cable :grumpy:

How can it? I don't think the PS2 will recognize it when hooked up to the USB ports.

Oh, Pako, I couldn't get that GT4 replay to work. I saved it to my USB 2.0 Flash Drive from my PC and then into the PS3, and it shows up in the Video icon only.

I'll figure out what to do, though.

So you got it? Congrats!!!

So yeah, create a virtual PS2 memory card through the PS3 interface. Once that's created, you should be able to drop the file from your flash drive there and load up GT4 (in theory).

How? The Flash Drive only shows up in the Video icon and reads "NO DATA" or something similar. I've got plenty of virtual PS2 memory cards. If I format the FD from the PS3, wont it get rid of your file?

EDIT: OK, I just noticed the FD shows up under the Picture, Audio and Video icons. But, no data in any of them. But, the FD shows only 490mb available, and it's a 512mb FD. I put two files on it, one your replay and another an mpeg 2 video clip of some silencers.

EDIT 2: OK, I got it figured out, some. The FD shows up under an Icon of whatever file it has stored on it. So, I download some MPEG1 videos, JPEG pics, MP3 audio files and they work. But, here's how.

Under the Audio Icon, I highlight the FD and I press the TRIANGLE button on the Sixaxis. I then click on "DISPLAY ALL" and this will show all the files on the FD. Then, highlight a particular file, and press the triangle button again, choose "COPY" and the file will store on the PS3's hard drive. Now, when highlighting the Audio Icon, that file will show up. I copied something from my PC, to my PS3's HDD. Cool. But, your file still wont show up, but I found the FD under the "Save Data Utility" but pushing the triangle button only shows "Information" and there is no "Display All."

I also tried to copy a file from my PS2 card to my FD. No luck.

i have a question?????? sorry for my ignorance, but no question is a stupid question... i think :dopey:

I've talked to some of my cousins in the US, not hardcore gamers or anything like that, but when i asked them about the PS3, they just said it's not as good as the 360, i can't judge because here in brazil it will be months before i even see one. so my question is:

is the PS3 as great (now) as SONY said it would be?

i really dont want a long answer showing me the pros and cons about it because i am tired of reading them, i just want to hear from you fellow GTP members your opinion on the matter. yes or no answers are very welcomed.

thanx 👍

I think they are fairly equal, but we need a few more games to be able to decide for sure. People say that the ports work smoother on the X360, but I'm sure things will even out and we'll begin to see which console has the advantage in a few more months.

You seem to be asking two questions, not one, but as to "is the PS3 as great (now) as SONY said it would be?"

No. Of course not. Neither is the 360 as good as Microsoft said it would be, nor most products that are hyped by their designers prior to actually being manufactured. Pretty much everything gets hyped, including consoles, games, cars, etc. This should not come at any surprise, nor should it impact a purchase decision.

It is a much wiser choice to base your purchase decisions on the actual performance and reliability of the products, and not whether or not it comes close to meeting the pre-release hype.

I also think it is not very wise to base a purchase decision based on only yes & no answers to a question that almost demands more specific information, which could seriously impact your enjoyment of one system over the other.

However, as to the question, "Is the Sony as good as the 360?":

I would certainly say yes, and in many ways it is better.

If you want to get a feel for how these consoles compare in specific performance areas, but without getting into the specific technical differences, I suggest you check out the following link:

GamePro's XB360 vs PS3 vs Wii Comparrision & Score Cards

(click HERE, if you want to just jump to page 10, and see that the PS3 was picked as the overall best next gen console.)

I've said before elsewhere but can repeat it here. The 360 did not offer anything I couldn't produce from my computer. In fact, the graphics were not as good as my gaming system when comparing like games. Sure there are a few 360 only titles, but nothing to make me want to go out and buy one. The PS3 on the other hand, surpassed my PC gaming experience with a couple of the titles I've tried. I'm really looking forward to seeing what future titles will do once the platform has matured and developers have had a chance to really get their feet wet with the new PS3 environment.

thanx all 👍 Can't wait to get :)

SUBMARINO R$7,499.00 (US$3K) not bad compared to some ebay listings we've all seen. I am getting my PS3 in the US sometime in 07 hopefuly i'll only have to pay the $699 + tax and games.

is the PS3 as great (now) as SONY said it would be?

Hell no. If you really don't care about Blu-ray, it comes strictly down to the games. The 360 and PS3 are evenly matched, with the PS3 having a better CPU and the 360 a better GPU.

Each console has it's flaws. The 360 excels in areas that the PS3 doesn't, and vice versa.

The consoles are only as good as their game library. Planet Earth prefers game libraries well stocked with Japanese titles like Gran Turismo, Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid. Now if you prefer PC gaming, the 360 may suit you better, but the PS3 and Wii will be preferred by most gamers in the world.

Like Pako says, the 360 still doesn't have a single game that makes me the least bit interested in it, and won't till Forza 2 releases.
