PS3 General Discussion

Heh, I was just referring to how I supposedly "assaulted" somebody earlier in the threa when I questioned the PS3 build quality. In any case, I think Resistance looks great - I'm a huge FPS fan, but fortunately it seems the 360 has enough of them to last it.

Honestly, I'd just like to avoid buying two systems to play all the games I want - exclusive titles suck. I'd rather not have to pay a grand to play all the franchises I like. I'll probably own both eventually though, and MGS and GT5 might just be the tipping point later on for me for the PS3.

I now have a gamefly membership and I'll be getting Fullauto 2 on Tuesday or wednesday.
Speaking of memberships, I'm thinking about using Netflix for Blu-ray.

Kenji loves the PS3 like it's Baby Jesus, so you really shouldn't take it personally.

So how much of a premium did you pay for buying yours on eBay?

LOL! That's one of the funniest scenes in that movie. :)

So how much of a premium did you pay for buying yours on eBay?

About a $30 premium. If I would've found one here, 500 x 1.081 tax = $540. So, when you factor in the stress of finding one at, say, a Best Buy, driving everywhere, etc, it's definitely worth it.

And really, that wasn't even the best deal out there. I could've gotten one for $490 with free overnight shipping, but at that time I didn't know if I wanted it or not.

It seems like the 60GBs are going for a good $150 premium on eBay, while the 20GBs are ignored.

I do feel kind of hypocritical saying that the PS3 is $600 when I get mine for $520 (excluding shipping). :irked:

Out of curiosity, besides Resistance, why did you get one if you already have a 360? Final Fantasy and MGS won't be out for a while - what other games are exclusive that you like? Just curious, don't put me on your ignore list or anything.

I asked myself the same question, but in reverse. Why do I want a 360 if I already have a PS3? Halo 3 and Forza 2 won't be out for a while - what other games would I like to play?

:boggled:

Besides Gears of War, I couldn't think of any game that has been already released on the 360.

I think it's a good thing - it's nice to only pay for one console and know you're not missing out on too much.

'Course the Wii is there as well, but I'm waiting for some great first-party games to be released before I drop cash on that.

You really have to see the marvel of engineering that is the Sony PS3 and it's cooling system...it's genius.

I agree.. its really is well laid out and for something which is so powerful its quite amazing that it can have the same noise output level as the slimline PS2 (quoted by sony)... can anyone confirm?

Here is the link to see the ps3 dissected.... its really cool inside... quite alot of nice cooling copper!

Looking through that dissection reminded me of a question. What file type is the HDD? I've heard it's FAT32. If I were to replace the HDD of a PS3 with a larger one does it need to be the same file type or does it simply need to be formatted? When it comes to hardware stuff I'm a bit of a noob!:dunce:

I've searched several forums, and a lot of people also say the PS3 only supports FAT32 format. I don't have the PS3 yet, but I believe there's a option that allows you to format your new hard drive:idea:

With the Wii, I think it'll only be a second console to most people. If the Wii proves to people that it's not a gimmick and not full of kiddy games, people will probably buy an HD console and the Wii.

Yeah, there's an option to format your HDD that was added in the 1.30 update (I think, it could've been 1.20).

YAY!

Unlike Nintendo's $5 (or 500 Wii Points) Christmas treats and more like their free Wii web browser, Sony's poised to really spread that holiday cheer with a holiday freebie. As promised, Gran Turismo HD -- recently re-imagined as a technology demo and not a full title -- will hit the PlayStation Store on December 24th (that's Christmas Eve) for the eminently reasonable price of $0 (or 0 Wii Points). Today, they've announced that offer applies to North America as well as Japan. Thanks, Sony!

The important info: one track (the Eiger Nordwand course), two game modes ("Time Trial" and "Drift Trial"), ten cars (with 10 additional "tuned" variations unlockable), and the much vaunted 1080p. Of course, the only online action you're going to be getting is downloading the game from the PlayStation Store. Like Kaz said, "For the genuine implementation of 'Online Car Life Simulation', please wait for Gran Turismo 5."

Looks like I won't need a Hong Kong account. :)

Gold huh? Well I played the Genji Demo and I can tell you its not near as bad as the gaming site reviews say. The graphics are very impressive but the demo has a little frame drops but not much. The water reflections are good and the lighting is great. To me it does what it does, hack an slash. It reminds me of Sengoku3 for Neo Geo but in 3D. Sengoku 3 has no depth to its gameplay and is not very long. Genji is not a bad game, problem is i guess only the graphics are enxt gen, not a big deal, games are games. If it had 4 player onlin co it would be better. Just from my demo play perspective.

It's downloading now! It's 630mb, the transfer speed is extremely slow.

edit: Now I'm downloading the US version now, it's only 625mb. Get it now! It's super hot!

I'm playing Sonic the Hedgehog on my PSP while I wait. Sega emulated the music perfectly.

The intro looks real! There is a obvious difference between GTHD and GT5. The DFP is supported!

I'm ranked #89 with 1'39.956

The music, the motion blur, the bloom effect, 60fps at 1920x1080!

I'm now joining the 1080p club!

I just ordered a 42" Sharp AQUOS from Best Buy. I was going to get it from Newegg ($1899 v. $2200) but they matched Newegg's price today in-store. The TV comes in Friday and the stand will be shipped to our house January 2nd. So it looks like I'm going HD on the 2nd. I also got a 4ft Monster HDMI cable, Monster Home Theatre Power Center, and 4 year service plan on the TV.

Woot!

Very nice!!!

At this point, I wish I would have waited to hop on the HD wagon with my 1080i limitation. Maybe Sony figure out some way to fix this issue. Quite honestly though, if it means running 1080i at 30FPS, I would rather drop to 720P for 60FPS.

You should have consulted us before you spent the big $$$ on the HDMI cables, since there is no different between a monster cable and a $15 HDMI cable :(

You got the D62, right? You probably should've waited for the 92 series. They're hyped big time and stuff. People rip on the 62's red push (It has a deep crimson added to its color spectrum), but I think it makes things look great if you have it calibrated right. Just because it has the power to create deeper reds doesn't mean you have to be stuck with a forever-sanguine picture.

Also, amazon is selling it for 1898, so go get an extra $1.25 back from Best Buy. They were even selling it for 1800 around thanksgiving.

Enjoy your new tube!

Couldn't you return the cables?

And what TV did you have previously?

Yeah, I could, but I'll just stick with these anyways. Current TV is a 27" Orion tube.

If the D62 is the one for sale everywhere I guess so.
