Ok, im interested in this folding@home thing on my PS3, how do I do it?

Do I need download something and transfer it to my PS3?

im lost. :dunce:
It comes with the system 1.6 update (or at least the way you activate it). To activate it, go to the "Network" bar in the XMB, and you'll see the F@H icon at the bottom, just below the PS Store icon. Click on it and follow the directions on downlaoding the application and activating it. if you ever change your mind, you can turn it off, or even delete the application any time you like. The F@H icon will remain, so that if you ever want to download it again, you can.

Also, there are specific details in the PS3 User Guide which you can also access directly from your PS3 from the top of the Network bar, if your PC isn't handy.

Here is a direct LINK, to the part on Folding@Home.

Thanks a lot ! :) Fixed now...
Ohh man, you're rocking everything there dude! 👍

You have the Gamecube, SNES I think, the 360, a PS2, an Xbox, a Nintendo 64, why you have 2 though? ohh and gotta have that Goldeneye!

Also the TV is sweet. What is it a 46" one? what's the resolution?

I'm only getting half the picture when it loads? What I see is impressive though. Very nice TV and that's one serious collection of consoles you have there!

BTW: You may want to post this in the following GTP thread:

I don't think so, maybe a loading problem, it works for me at least ...
And I posted the pic in the PS3 setup thread, thanks for the notice.

What you can see is a PS3, a Wii, 2 Xbox360, 2N64, PSX, Saturn, Game Cube, SNES, Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, Mega Drive. What you can not see, is another PS2. And I also have a few consoles not set up atm : Super Famicom, SNES us, NES, 2 Saturn(pal), Mega Drive (pal)....

Why 2 N64 ? One is NTSC (japanese, also plays US games ) and one is PAL.

It's a Sony KDS 55A 2000, 55 inch Full HD 1080P TV, reaction time :2,5 ms, contrast 10000:1, really an awesome TV, I enjoy it every day.

Black Dreamcast!?!!?
Nice Mega Drive, too (is that Sonic the Hedgehog I see poking out?). And Saturn.
Do you have 2 360's?

Its a Super Famicom, so yeah, close enough.

Yes, but it's not that rare as you might think ( not the Biohazard Edition for example ), it's the Sega Sports Dreamcast, that I bought after my white japanese one got fried.

Right, it's a multinorm Mega Drive. All my consoles are either chipped or - and that leads to your next question - I have two of them. It's a pal 360 and a japanese 360.
I don't buy chips for consoles anymore. I never bought illegal copies, all games that I have are original, but todays consoles tend to die ( I have my third pal xbox360 ) and the online aspect is also important.

It's actually a modified SNES for practical reasons. I just don't have the space for 2 SNES and one SFC so I bought that one on ebay a while ago.

Does your TV count as a house resident?

Also that is one huge set-up. How long would it take a burglar to steal that lot?

:D Well I love him very much, he is part of the family ;)

As for the 2nd question... well I kinda don't want to think too much about that, but I guess two burglars would find a way... luckily several police officers live in the houses around our house. It's a very safe neighborhood.

Has anybody reached 100% on the Folding@Home thingy?

I'm kinda desperate right now, should I play? or should I just let it go all the way to 100%?

EDIT: Alright forget it, I'm gonna play Resistance now....

100%? you mean as in completing one unit? yes I left it on overnight last night and it was well into its second unit by the time I woke up. Hopefully I will be able to join the GTP team tonight and start folding with them.

Thanks, I saw the "how to F@H on your PS3" on diggs page when I got up this morning. So thanks, ive been away from my PS3 since Tuesday, so ill start F@H'ing as soon as I get back on monday, ill add the GTP group and well see what kind of a difference we can all make!:)

I have a question about the background downloading: If I switch user, say to my US account, will that make the download stop or will it keep going?

EDIT: Nevermind again, I just tried it and it does keeps downloading. 👍

I processed a whole unit last night and then the wireless internet cut out before I could send back the data. LAME.

Which i find kinda funny, because if you read his collection of random stuff, like four days ago he was going to get rid of it for good.

I'm talking about mine under the bookcase, not next to my 360. So, in essence, it got no ventilation at all. Plus it was on carpet, which isn't the most cooling material...

EDIT: Wow, we should just rename this thread to "Next-Gen Consoles Discussion" since half the time we're talking about the 360.

EDIT again: Does anyone know when Afrika and the next Wipeout come out? Right now, I might just have to sell my PS3.

...to bump up to a 60GB, of course. Turns out I need Wi-fi. <--------------------

And that was true. But then I came to my senses and realized I'd just buy one next spring anyway for Uncharted and Heavenly Sword. And I got more interested in LittleBigPlanet and PS Home.

Good call, too. Personally, I am very excited about Lair and of course, Home.

P.S. good luck on selling your PS3, I doubt that you will have any problems at all for that price though.

heh PFLOPS, you would think they would come up with a better acronym then FLOPS.... I wonder how long its going to take sony to add more emulation tittles?

Well I picked up my PS3 at around 8pm last night (after a four hour driver back from Wales - bloody job), with a copy of Motorstorm and RFOM.

Not had much of chance to play around with RFOM, but Motorstorm certainly is fun. Played on-line last night and after I finally managed to get into a game (is it just me or is getting disconnected while waiting common with Motorstorm) it was lag free fun all the way (quite a surprise given I'm in an area that is currently limited to 1meg).

Also downloaded GTHD and the RR demo. RR is a fun diversion and I may have to pick a copy up soon, but GTHD I must admit did impress me, yes its small but the track and car modelling is very, very good and the on-line update of times/drift scores (both of which I currently suck badly at)b is well done, as is the ability to view others lap-times.

Downloading Tekken : DR as I type, well for £6.99 it would be silly not to (and Mrs Scaff is a big Tekken fan).

So far I have to say I'm happy with the PS3, my only gripe is that I have to go back to Wales with work tomorrow, and away for the whole week. Total pain in the butt, I finally get the damn thing and work send me to the back end of the world (trust me this part of Wales qualifies).

Keeping my options open for when I get back for future purchases (I have a load of PS2 and Xbox games that are now going to go), so any recommendations would be welcome.

Regards

Scaff

Oh - just to add to the PS2 compatibility list, Eyetoy Play works but is a bit iffy on the visual side, nothing major. I also tried a couple of the Singstar titles and they were fine.
