Congrats, Scaff. Have fun!
I've never had any problem with motorstorm online, might be a UK thing.
icelt - You won't know, and definately won't happen until late late 2007, early 2008. WHy does it matter? Do you think it will be more reliable? I certainly don' t think it'll be any better / worse.
Yeah, online is unreliable for MotorStorm here. You either get stuck in "Preparing" status, or when the race loads you race on your own as people are disconnected, or the game just freezes when the game loads. When it does work, yeah, pretty fun online...

All very good points, and for those willing to wait, it could be worth it. Also, the 65nm chips are less expensive and future PS3's will likely not come with the BC emotion engine, thus lowering Sony's costs.Well going to the "tighter" mfr process will reduce the overall chip footprint right? So, I'm presuming here, this will require at least some nominal change to the motherboard design. If that's true I would also imagine that would lead to an official Revision change to the hardware, which might be reflected in a part/sku number. I agree it won't state plainly on the box, "now with a 65nm cell blah, blah" but I do think there is a good chance the informed will be able to correlate a rev number to the cpu mfr process.
On the reliability question, boy that's pretty difficult to predict. Assuming the 65nm process does significantly reduce the cell's energy consumption, and thereby also significantly reduces it's heat output, then it is possible for the "reliability" of that specific part to generally increase. The basic assumption here is that for all things electronic, heat kills. However, some other key component could also change (in design, mfr, supplier, etc) and in a manner that reduces its relative reliability/longevity. Now taking all these small changes into effect makes it kinda of hard to accurately predict how the assembly's overall reliability will be impacted. Anyhoo... personally I feel that waiting for the 65nm cpu, and whatever mod's happen to accompany the rest of the unit, is more likely to result in a more reliable system.
Hmmm must be a PAL issue, I've only tried the Euro servers, may have to give the Aussie ones a go and see if that's any better.

Scaff

There is currently a rumor (although its been rumored before the PS3 even came out ) that Sony will be dropping the price of the 60GB PS3 by $100. This may help explain why Sony appears to have ended/ending production of the 20GB PS3, and the price drop would also be easier for Sony to swallow considering the lower cost of making the PS3.
Still, this may not happen until November, and so far the current PS3 has truly proven itself to be a very well designed, built, and reliable console. So those that don't want to wait for a price drop, there is no evidence that they would be compromising on quality by buying a PS3 now.
Good points again, and I forgot about rumble! Surely eventually new PS3's will come with new controllers.Agreed on the evidence point. Although most won't read it this way, my opinions were not meant at all to insinuate that the PS3 has current reliability problems.
That being said, I'm still gonna hold out. It's getting difficult, what with MS and F1:CE getting fair praise, but I'm still thinking Sony's got some improvements planned, if only slight. So that's my basis for thinking a 6-month or so wait will prove worth it. I mean rumble's gotta be near term for the 6-axis now and those damn convex triggers have got to be tweaked right?
I'm curious, what servers ("Lobbies") are folks seeing from around the world?Hmmm must be a PAL issue, I've only tried the Euro servers, may have to give the Aussie ones a go and see if that's any better.
If G.T. asks to add you, say no because he is trying to send viruses.
For me there are options for AU/NZ and Euro Servers. Then in the Euro's, there are 3 English Speaking servers, and every other major language used in Europe for the others, which are, expectedly, not even half full. The first two English ones are almost always full, so maybe the traffic is causing issues...

Although it appears that we all see the Australian server... as I said earlier, perhaps this is where folks from different regions can play against one another.Duċk;2612327Well, I tried entering a lobby in Motorstorm a week ago, and everyone was at "Preparing" for at least 5 minutes.
Besides, not being able to play against European people is really lame.
...half empty...
Such a negative nancy.
Oh, and oddly, there is an Australian server in the EU set of servers.
Ha. You're not doing well at the folding though, as I could only see 10 or so dots on the map of people using it in the whole of Australia! All part of th Australian master plan.
I don't understand what you mean here... I have a PAL PS3 and use a SCART connection to watch DVD's and it works fine.Learned that the PAL PS3 still uses Macrovision to disable Scart playback of DVDs. I've read that from a few people. Not sure if it's a problem with Blu-ray movies too.
That's really not very good of Sony. For those who only have scart on their tv's and only enough sockets for the PS3 and say a video recorder, having DVD playback disabled is a poor show. To my knowledge this is not an issue with the 360, but I could be wrong. If it's not an isuue then Sony should be slapped. If the 360 also uses Macrovision to disable Scart DVD playback then fine, I guess...they should be both slapped. Not everyone has HDMI or component on their tv's or enough sockets for a seperate DVD player.👎

Indeed that's not true at all...So if you dont have a HD-TV you cant use a PAL PS3 to play DVD's bought in england? surely not

So has anyone tried this yet?Although it appears that we all see the Australian server... as I said earlier, perhaps this is where folks from different regions can play against one another.
I am not available right now, but this can be checked if two people from different regions both go to the Australian server and see if they see each other.
