Hopefully this is the workaround we've been wanting.......
So has anyone tried this yet?
You may want to give those specs another look, or maybe you meant a different display, as the display in that link is not even 720p:should be getting this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/TVs/Plasma/4049/auction-92535699.htm
42", 1080p, HDMI input reserve NZ$880(about US$460)
* Resolution: 852*480
And at the same time you'll null basically every reason to get a PS3. I say you actually get a 720p native HDTV. You should be able to get one for the price of this gimped one.oops lol i just read the "Support 480P/480I, 576P/576I, 720P, 1080I/1080P." lol.
PC Compatible (1280*1024) Does this mean it can on pc? I might get it anyway for the time being(it's cheap enough) And then ill sell to my mate for a profit lol.
Don't sweat it, it is a very common mistake. A lot of manufacturers like to emphasis "support 1080p" in the marketing of their displays, but support only means they can accept those signal not display them in their native resolution. Unfortunately a lot of unsuspecting consumers do not find this out until it's too late and are stuck with it.oops lol i just read the "Support 480P/480I, 576P/576I, 720P, 1080I/1080P." lol.
No, "compatible" is just another way of saying "support", it still will have to downscale any 1280x1024 (SXGA) signal to 640×480 (VGA) which not only means a 75% drop in resolution, but you'll find that any text is going to look very soft from the scaling.... I'm not trying to give you bad news, I just want to let you know what you might expect from this display, and give you fair warning.PC Compatible (1280*1024) Does this mean it can on pc?
Oh man, you're missing out a lot when playing on a 13" TV like that , but it's good to see you still enjoy your PS3. Summer is not that far away, you'll soon be able to get a full experience out of your PS3:tup:
What's the movie playback like for DVD and BR on the PS3?
- I used to hate watching films on my PS2 before i bought a dedicated DVD player. The picture was ok, but the sound always began to 'lag' behind the picture by about half way through a film. Does this still happen on the PS3?
I bought the PS3 primarily as a Blu-ray player, and thus compared it to the standalone players that were currently available at the time:What's the movie playback like for DVD and BR on the PS3?

True. Even Toshiba's $1000 HD DVD XA1 doesn't output 1080p. On the other hand, there second gen players do, and in fact their $800 HD-XA2 player comes with HDMI 1.3 and more importantly, it also has the amazing Realta HQV video processing chip from Silicon Optixs. Of course, so does Samsung's 2nd gen Blu-ray player, BD-P1200, which is also listed at $800. Because of the Realta chip, both of these players are easily the best performing upscaling DVD players on the market. 👍I agree D-N, I'm assuming it was Sony's plan to sell Blu-ray players at $1000 until there were enough PS3's out there to release there upcoming $500 player. Half price in 1 year isnt bad at all, in '08 BD-Rom players should settle around $350 if the movies are selling well. By the way those $500 HD DVD players do not output in 1080p, they are 1080i max at lease all the ones I've seen in retail.
If your biggest supporter doesn't have faith in the longevity of the format... what hope is there?
This is likely the biggest reason why, despite being one of the largest financial backers of HD DVD, Microsoft continues to not release any XB360 with an internal HD DVD drive. If your biggest supporter doesn't have faith in the longevity of the format... what hope is there?
The "Blu-ray Disc Association" was founded in 2002 by nine leading electronic companies: Matsu****a, Pioneer, Phillips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, Samsung and Sony as contrast to the DVD Forum. Spearheaded by Sony Corporation on February 19th 2002 the companies announced [1] they were the "Founders" of the Blu-ray Disc and later changed their name to the "Blu-ray Disc Association" in order to achieve more companies joining their development. Some examples of companies that signed in include Apple, TDK, Dell, Hewlett Packard, Walt Disney, Warner Bros. and Universal Music Group. At the moment the there are more than 250 members and supporters of the Association.
Sony will probably release a few patches in the future to add more games to the BC list, but I doubt TDU is a real priority for them.Does anyone think there's any chance Sony will release a patch allowing PS2 TDU to be played on PS3?
Didn't the PS2 and PC version of TDU just come out this month? It may not be on the list of BC games because it is new? If not, I'm surprised it doesn't work on the PS3, but it is a very popular series so if it isn't currently BC, I would think Atari would submit a patch to Sony to make it BC some time in the near future.Does anyone think there's any chance Sony will release a patch allowing PS2 TDU to be played on PS3?
