PS3 General Discussion

Mind you, I was playing a large HD Video, so maybe the stream was very sensitive to anything being in the way... But yeah, they're easy to dent.

Well, then in your defense, yes, it's difficult to get a good HD stream, party because the PS3 doesn't really drop the bitrate, etc.

Any SD media I've downloaded from the PS store, or encoded myself (i.e. resolutions of 640x480, etc) is fine. I've never had a problem with music lagging, ever.

Edit: And for the record, walls aren't the primary reason for interference. Cell Phones, cordless phones, PC's, routers, microwaves, power lines, etc, all play a large role in interference. If you live in a building where everyone has cordless phones and wireless routers, etc, those put out the same 2.4Ghz signal as your WiFi, which will degrade the signal, so it's entirely out of your control.

Yea, I was watching a standard definition movie trailor. That may be why i did not experience any lag...either way, I think the function has potential.

Yeah. IIRC, at some point in the future you'll be able to stream your media from your PS3 to your PSP... from any Wi-Fi hotspot in the world. And developers can also utilize the PSP in games for, say, a rear view mirror or a map. While the latter is more or less gimmicky, the former could be useful.

I agree with you and personally, I really hope that some developers create some added function for it relatively soon. It could add sooo much more to gameplay.

I was really looking forward to Rainbow Six Vegas on the PS3..... but now that its been so long im not really interested anymore unless they add a ton of new content...

COD4 looks more interesting to me at the moment...

June 12th. Zounds! They may as well cancel it and start working on the next RS.

I' troth, thou didst use "Zounds!" i' commentary o' thy games o' video. Well done.

 I got my Casino Royal confirmation email this morning, 2 weeks after I received the BD.

We got our second one a couple of days ago too. 👍

Note: House of Flying Daggers looks TERRIBLE on blu-ray, very poor transfer. It looks almost the same as the DVD version.

But Casino Royale, Beerfest (yes!), The Prestiege, and Layer Cake are all amazing transfers that are absolutely stunning.

I think House Flying Daggers was one of the first Blu-ray movies released. No surprises there. SwordFish looks great and its VC-1. Pressing select shows you the stats of video including what its was encoded in. I dont know if stand alone players do that. The in movie scene selection is cool(Sword Fish).

I'd add that Kingdom of Heaven looks pretty good too. I want to get another (have Casino Royale too) but can't make up my mind. Probably get a popcorn movie like Hellboy. Anyone know how that looks?

People enjoyed SwordFish enough to actually purchase it? Weird.

I like the movie but it was free, Buy one get one free from Best Buy. They have sales every now and thats the only way I'll buy movies. But I think we've had this conversation last year.

David Jaffe:

TO THE LAME ASS WEBSITE THAT SHALL GO UNNAMED- **** you, guys. Go **** yourselves. What other developer makes a ****ing change to a game when a review (IGN's in this case) has a good, valid point and is willing to open the ****ing code up at the risk of more bugs to make the game better? Amazing. But hey, you guys are great, you guys rock. I hope Kotaku ****ing puts your ass out of business, wanna be ****tards. And if you were actual journalists you would have read the mother****ing quote I posted on NEOGAF where I said because of the two bugs we needed to fix (not because I was afraid of the bargin bin) we had a window of opp. to fix the magnet problem. Assholes...total ****ing assholes.

If people attacked your game without even playing the game, you would be pissed too. Sites like Gamespot giving a nonsense rating of 6.7 and Kotaku writing off the situation as just "whining" really rubs me the wrong way.

Actually, Jaffe was cursing out Joystiq and their article(s).

...That said, I do think he shouldn't get all worked up about GameSpot's review. Yes, it was lower than what it should be, but more reviews will come in. And if they come in positive, you won't need to rampage. If they come in negative... then you'll come across as a pompous ass.

Joystiq? MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

That site sucks and blows. Only idiots visit that site and actually believe what they read there. I used to go there to get a good laugh at their supreme idiocy. I don't bother anymore.

Nobody I know takes them seriously. So why would Jaffe? They're such idiots. Laugh at them, and move along.

So, today while watching 'Stranger than Fiction' my PS3 kept saying "Wrong disc. Please insert correct disc".

wtf?

Well, put in the correct disc, stupid.

Kidding. Bad disc?
Is it dusty (disc or PS3)?
Finger prints?
Scratches?
Wrong side of the disc?
Run your PS3 often?

I'm already worried enough about my dust problem, as I run folding@home as I type. :nervous:

Karma. The Xbox 360 god is punishing you for blasphemy.

OK, I'm screwing with you (obviously). Has there been any other irregular things happening with your PS3 lately? Or just this?

And did you get the error at a certain part (or randomly) while watching the movie? Or did you get it when entering the movie into the drive?

Oh bugger, my dad has just bought a PS3... but he's currently on the other side of Australia
Meh, I'll have to buy one myself when the price drops a bit.

Might have a while to wait yet, although it has come down by £25 already since I bought mine just over a month ago.

I just twigged last night how to play music and surf the internet at the same time on the PS3... the PS button!

Haha, coincidence. I found out last night also!

I can't wait to use custom backgrounds for the XMB too. That gave you a slight idea as to what it would be like.

Indeed it does! Infact, if you're watching a vid on the internet like I was, you can still see that too... he he, Michael Palin wallpaper

I was just wondering if there's any SOCOM game planned for the PS3. It was always one of the leading titles concerning PS2 online gaming but I haven't heard anything about a next gen version of it. Is there anything I'm missing?

Well, the guys who make Socom are working on a PS3 game... but that's all everyone knows.
