PS3 General Discussion

FatAssBR
Sony released quite a few F1 titles for the PS2 already, only just in Europe.
I think your semi-right, there was one not a few, F1 2005 is the only PS2 f1 game I can find made by SCEE, most of the other's were EA.

yeah, that´s the game i was talking about. F1 2005 by SCEE. and its a very bad one, that´s why i was so surprised by the demo of the next gen game.

That's fair enough, but you can't compare CGI intro vids to in game graphics and say "lolz, this PS3 intro vid totally kicks 360 ass".

I will how ever agree that the first gen of games is hardly incredible. PGR3 though was pretty amazing.

i know. i just read a story that said that sony claimed that the killzone demo was real time. then after that, developers said it was not "exactly" that. so we have to be prepared when the system launchs, if games do not look as good as the demos show. in this subject, what bothers me is why would sony do this kind of PR, to overhype the system, and them deliver something that is not quite what was promissed. people would be disapointed, but i hope it won´t be the case. right now we can only make judgements after E3... oh, the waiting:nervous:

PGR3 wasnt that amazing in my offline play experience, and it wasnt enough for me to shell out $400 big ones on the system. It is just as good as PGR2 was, just prettier but not a much better game with less content. If it weren't for the strange looking wheels its car models would be perfect.

Concerning AI, I'm a bit concerned that, with Online Play becoming more common, developers might be tempted to skimp on the AI, rationalizing that 'The players can always go online...'

i feel that i have been asking a lot of questions lately...sorry

anyway a few questions (its only coz i know you are all so intellegent :) )

PS3: people on ebay are selling these inmported from Japan already for £500.00 ... is this genuine?

From the little we know how does the PS3 and Xbox360 compare on hardware specification (i.e. which is the better performer)

Legend has it, it is to be released world-wide on the same day...in late 2006. is this true and is there a date?

Checking the first post in this thread will answer all your questions (except only PS3 specs for question two.)

cheers, i read it but was looking for some latest news...i'll re-read it.
I update the first post with any new important info that becomes available. Everything posted there is "up to date."

I doubt we'll hear a peep until E3. They gotta make it a "big show." At least, I hope we don't hear anything until then. I think it's more fun that way.

PLENTY OF PS3 GOODNESS REVEALED!

Monolith plots PS3 title, new EyeToy avatar scoop, plus tentative launch line up and a host of next-gen Sony goodies

You've got to love our magazine brethren. Despite working exclusively in dead tree media, they get in on some top scoops which occasionally make us a touch green with envy. Well, maybe not, but hats off to Official PlayStation 2 Magazine which has come up with a bunch of great PS3 goodies in the latest issue.

Chief among the delights is the news that Monolith, the developer behind awesome PC FPS F.E.A.R., is working on a PS3 exclusive. Not a great deal more is known, but given the developer's leanings we'd be surprised to find it was anything other than a PS3 FPS. It almost certainly won't be a F.E.A.R. title though, as Vivendi has retained all rights to that series.

Other hot PS3 news? Well, the mag also reveals that your online PS3 persona will be captured via an EyeToy camera, which can then be converted into an avatar so you'll be able to upload your mugshot to the PlayStation Network Platform and share your visage with an unsuspecting world.

As well as providing rumours on the existence of a new Level 5 (Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy ) PS3 title and the fact that Pandemic is beavering away on up to six new games for current- and next-gen consoles, OPSM 2 also offers a tentative array of some of the PS3 titles which should be available for launch in November. They are:

* Lair
* Motorstorm
* John Woo's Stranglehold
* Tekken
* Sonic The Hedgehog: Resistance
* Rainbow Six: Vegas
* Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

An interesting array of PS3 goodies indeed and of course, we'll be bringing you more from the games juggernaut which is E3 next month.

more news:
PS3 chips to be tested next week:

News has come out that Sony will begin testing parts of the PlayStation 3 as early as this week. Testing is a good indicator that Sony is getting close to starting production of their next generation console.

KYEC (King Yuan Electronics Corporation) is reported to be behind the test engineering. While KYEC has left no comment about actually testing the components, the company is well known for checking components from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation Portable.

If Sony is to upkeep their latest promise of having a worldwide launch in November, the PlayStation 3 must be completely tapped out soon. Most likely, Sony will reveal more information about the progress of their new console in the upcoming weeks at E3, which is shaping up to be a battle royal of Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony.

This doesn't smell to well...

Sony London has been hard at work on some very hush-hush PlayStation 3 goodness. According to sources close to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony's UK studios are hard at work on both the PlayStation Network (codenamed "PlayStation HUB") and backwards compatibility software for PS2/PSOne emulation.

If the sources are correct, then the PlayStation 3's backwards compatibility is not as certain as it once was. Software emulation is the same trick being used by the Xbox 360 to play original Xbox title, and Microsoft is still trying to get its back catalogue to function properly (as of today, our beloved Psychonauts is still not playable on our shiny 360 consoles). The source claims that "a surprising number of PS2 titles are already working on PS3 prototype hardware." Sony must get the majority of its back catalogue compatible with the new PlayStation or they will lose one of their key speaking points.

Say Sony does manage to get all (or a majority) of its PSOne / PS2 games compatible with the PlayStation 3 -- how much space is that going to take up on the recently-confirmed 60 GB HDD? And what about imported PS2 titles?

I'm not concerned. Emulation isn't a daunting task. The main reason that the 360 has trouble emulating is because the console proir used hardware features that were exclusive to that video card and aren't possible on the 360 unless emulated, and Microsoft just does not care much about BC.

I believe Sony will come out at a *minimum* of 75% of all titles working properly.

And I have no idea why imported titles would even matter, since the only difference is the region.

Solid, just to let you know (but you probably do :D) thats from the arcade version, based on Lindbergh platform. But the virtua tennis games have always been good to play, I remember in my old student union, they had VT arcade, and when you gave it a good smack in the middle of the joy sticks it gave you free credits, was fun tho.

When I was in college, it was Squash on the Commodore 64/128 that was all the rage. But games like these suck when you play them by yourself.

That's the same video from TGS, isn't it? I still have that on my harddrive. I think it was posted in the MGS4 thread back when TGS was going on.

Well, as far as I know the video had never been posted with translations as well. Plus I think the video that was posted a while ago was shorter than this. But yes, it is the video from the TGS.

Cause not every country gets all the games. Japan has games that us North American people have to import, as long with Europe.

Still it doesn't matter. Sony is going to release a region free Console, this means that all their firmware is going to be identicle, respective to the console.

Just like PSP, all of the firmware from Japan and the US is the same, and if Sony is going to have problems with backwards compatibility, it will be with all regions and all consoles, thus they will only release one batch of firmware to support all titles world wide.

This is proof that many many companies will print any kind of "news" and "rumor" they can without even the slightest understanding of what's going on just to generate a few clicks and get those few cents per every hundred views. Believe it if you want, but most of it is just garbage.

Agreed, but at least with the PS3 we will be able to either play it online, or via the wi-fi pads, this should prove to be quite a good social game, the one I used to play around a friends house was Anna Kournikova on the PS1, that was a fun game along with ISS '98.

PSM magazine has stated they have the price of the PS3 for North America and Europe. The price is $399. Nothing official, but they do have former writers and members of the magazine now working for Sony and other companies that are very close to Sony. They've been wrong before, but they do have a knack of getting some good insider information.

Wait for E3 for anything official, though. Just more "Pre-E3" fireworks, folks.

Gee, that would make me close to my predicted price... or did I say $399? I can't remember now.

But seriously, if that ends up being the case, it means that either Sony is willing to take a pretty huge loss getting the PS3 into people's homes, or it's cheaper to manufacture than speculated. And that Sony may have been playing a huge psych-warfare campaign on the other manufaturers as well as the game buying public.

I still say the price will be $499. That's not a bad price for a great game console that plays HD movies, Super Audio CD player and has a hard drive for storing movie, games, songs and pictures from the internet or other sources. PSM's price of $399 seems a little under priced to me. But hey, I'm not complaining.

It depends. I've seen similar antics in the electronic music and PC component world, and Sony is a pretty ruthless company. But I did pay $499 for my Sega Saturn and I'm still happy with it. I do wish that I could be buying a Sega next gen console so I could be in awe of it too like I was when I loaded Panzer Dragoon, but this isn't a perfect world, sadly.

danm, you guys are fast:dopey: i was gonna post this news now...

i really didn´t want to be peter moore if this is really the price tag of the PS3... i´m still thinking is too cheap, but then again, reading old news, it looked as if sony didn´t need to fight HD-DVD and Micro$oft, but now i´m thinking more and more that they have a big fight against those 2... so a price like that would definately help their cause...
