PS3 General Discussion

I hated that it took over six hours to download all the updates (as well as installing the game itself), but I eventually got all the stuff for ModNation Racers to go. The game was surely fun from when I played. The crazy action would make the Mario Kart games soil its underwear with the crazy weapons. Of course, I'd rather fire red shells than a volley of homing missiles, but it's still a very crazy game.

I then went on to play more Super Street Fighter IV. It took me over five rounds until I finally won my first online match. I was Ken taking on Sagat in an online battle. I won the first round, but lost the second round. Just to get a PSN trophy, I gathered up my courage and got my first online fight victory in my third battle.

So... life is good with my PS3! :)

You were mentioning a must-win in ModNation Racers, LaBounti. I just cleared the Mayhem Tour while completing the other objectives. My goodness! That was TOUGH! NOTHING of what you do matters if you don't win the race (you have to win to advance). I haven't yet done the Range Tour, but I always take the time to make more mods and karts. It's just so doggone fun. Endless opportunities. Your imagination is the only limit. That's the sign of a great game (or at least an enjoyable one). Of course, you can have the same limitless fun in the Little Big Planet series, but ModNation Racers is more like Little Big Planet for racing fans.

Ah yeah I gave up. I should try again. I haven't been on much since I got my new 3D Smart TV that allows me to use netflix and stuff without my ps3 being on.

Just picked up Fall out New Vegas on an impulse buy. It being $9.99 new kinda helped. And its a launch copy so I'm guessing BB over forecast the sales. :)

I cleared the Range Tour last night in ModNation Racers. And for the first time, I won a Grudge Match. It was tough as I won that Grudge Match in the Flaming Jumps one. I am now finding myself trying to make karts and mods. I somewhat re-created myself because I'm not real good at making original characters. A lot of people online are MUCH more artistic and expressive with their characters, which is a slap in the face to me because I've been an art person all of my life (basically).

I finally beat that one race after at least 10 restarts, I almost punched my 3 year old for walking in front of the TV at the last turn while I was in first place(then ending up a headline on Kotaku crossed my mind). But before that I was thinking of posting a you tube video of my losing and breaking the disc into pieces this was so frustrating. But I beat it. got a little bronze trophy.

The Grim Tour was completed by me, and now the Grand Tour awaits for me in ModNation Racers. I am more focused on clearing rounds rather than trying to win and pick up all the bonuses. I may also consider getting the Far East and Big City packs. By the way, that final race to the Grim Tour is absolutely hard, but also exciting!

LaBounti, I probably thought my influence for you to replay ModNation Racers got on to you when I saw the Status Update for you last night when I saw your screen name and "ModNation Racers Career Mode" as the game you were playing. Just got to keep on trying, you know?

It was a good day for me doing ModNation Racers online action. My best-ever finish in XP races was 2nd (twice). I also received my first challenge in the game. I was an at XP level 6 going up against a driver who's an XP 2. This driver challenged me to two races, and I won both of them by at least ten seconds. Being the good sport, I honored him/her for sending me the challenge. I'm not like that. I'm classy and old-fashioned. I even sent the player a message on ModNation Racers saying that it was great doing races against him.

I even made a friend with a VERY good MNR racer through PSN. So all in all, a great day online. Would be better if I won my first Online XP race...

I've added two more games to my PS3 collection- ModNation Racers and Super Street Fighter IV. That's now five titles to compliment Gran Turismo 5, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Grand Theft Auto IV (which I've rarely played for some reason, perhaps confirming my doubts about this game compared to GTA3 - GTA: Vice City Stories). So that's now five games in my collection. I think five is a very decent number of games to have when you're just starting a collection. My thoughts on Super Street Fighter IV will be explained elsewhere.
If you don't have it yet, I highly suggest checking out Gamefly. I love being able to play through tons of games that I am interested in but not sure enough to buy first.

Oh, man... last night, I won my first online race of any kind (a one-on-one). Tonight, I won my first ever XP race in ModNation Racers. Here's a brief story. I accidentally boosted too early before the start. I started dead last for most of the race. Mistakes aplenty were committed by me. I toughened up and started picking up more weapons. At one point, I was in a position to possibly steal the win. I took a shortcut while boosting. After that, it was a mad dash to the line. I had just enough boost to win by a close one. It was an absolutely epic finish. I even typed in the chat box:

"MY FIRST WIN!!!"

It was my first XP Race win. And if you don't think I was jacked, think again! I then lead my first lap of any XP race in the following race... then fell apart like a poorly-built car and finished third out of about five racers. Still, you always honor your first win and know that you can do it again any given track, any given day, any day of the week.

I also uploaded my first kart and Mod online. I made my own Stig (Top Gear) and even made my own imagination of the 2003 Subaru Impreza WRC rally car. One of the karts (a Tuner) really looks like the Subaru Impreza with Mitsubishi Lancer (VII or VIII?) brake lights. So I made a half-assed re-make of that Impreza WRC. I have actually gotten better using Stickers and other graphics for karts. Have yet to reach truly unique creator status yet.

SSFIV is awesome!! Very slick fighter.

My PS3 is getting annoyingly loud when playing DVDs now. It's positioned the best I can have it but the fan still gets really loud, presumably because it's upscaling to 1080p. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions of how to clean it out? I cant do the fan method and it seems like a decent sized job to get to the cooling system. However if anyone has successfully done it I might think about it, maybe replace the thermal paste while I'm there.

I've finally gone to triple-digit PSN trophies this evening. Some of them done by fighting online in Super Street Fighter IV.

For the first time on Sunday, I test-drove Crackle on PS3. I usually use YouTube for the Web Browser features. Crackle is pretty cool. Never saw any full shows or anything. I absolutely DON'T use PS3 Browser for Facebook because the Facebook thing works ludicrously slow on the PS3. All I utilize Facebook for is to show off my latest PSN Trophy info to my Facebook profile.

Don't do the fan 'method', its actually tricking the system by messing up the thermal sensing into thinking its maxed out and can damage the console. Just get a vacuum (turn down the power) with a small nozzle attachment and run it around the back of the vents. You could also use compressed air.

I personally would open the thing but its not easy especially the first time and getting to the cooling components is even harder. The thermal paste is 100% worth replacing especially if the console seems to be running hot even playing DVD's.

Robin.

Once you hit LVL 12 its a slow crawl for progression. I got 2 bronze and 3 silvers in a row and barely moved 1%......

Unless you can activate a mobile version of Facebook I wouldn't bother with it.

I am eyeing Tekken 6 and Little Big Planet 2 now. Also thinking about any "Need for Speed: Shift" title. Shift Unleashed 2 is something I'm interested in after I've seen a few PSN buddies (including fellow GTPlanet members) who've played "NFS: Shift Unleashed 2." As I've said before, if I buy one of those, it would be my first-ever NFS console game I've owned. I guess I'd be interested in any of the Shift games since I feel these may be NFS games worth playing since the "NFS: Underground" days. Last modern NFS game I've enjoyed was "NFS: Pro Street."

But as usual, I always do a bunch of reading and watching videos online before thinking about any game. Other people on PSN somewhat influence me to get certain games.

My ModNation Racers tour of duty continues. I've done a handful more online races (casual and XP). I am pleased to say that I won two more XP races today. The first win today was on the Penguin Palace track, where I basically had a strong start and basically did not let my guard down all race long. I led every lap of the first race to the tune of a 12-second victory. Not a bad way to get your second-ever XP race victory, eh? My third victory came with some boost in a close battle. One of the ones who saw me win say that I got lucky. Hey, better lucky than good, right?

I now have a total of about five wins online in races. Doing almost 90 races, that's sad I haven't won more. But then, that also speaks to the level of competition in a hard-fought racing game like ModNation Racers.

Away from the online scene, I recently unlocked a new kart. I unlocked the Panthera(?) kart. It is the one that looks like a Le Mans Prototype. You get it through clearing the Unique Jumps objectives of the Grim Tour finale.

So you'd recommend just "NFS: Shift" and not "NFS: Shift 2 Unleashed?" Still mostly weighing my options...

Shift plays great with a wheel bad with the controller, Shift 2 is the opposite. John If you get Tekken 6 let me know, I haven't even played it much since getting. The final Boss is annoying and difficult. Don't sleep on Test Drive Unlimited 2. Its on sale for $20 at Best Buy. Its an open world online racing game. I could use a cruising buddy :).

I have Test Drive Unlimited for the PS2. Limited as that is compared to the other versions, it makes me just that much more excited to get TDU2. Maybe the thing I'd be interested in is going to Ibiza in TDU2. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'll get to enjoy any Paul Van Dyk sessions in Ibiza or anything in the game. Partying in Ibiza is a big deal, you know. :)

I did it! I did it! I DID IT!!!

I beat the Grand Tour of ModNation Racers in almost epic fashion! That was a wicked effort. Only thing sweeter is if I've won all of the honor and had that Espresso Grudge Match. This is a great and epic accomplishment for me in this game. Surprisingly, it took me only about two of three (maybe four) tries. It was a great game to go through the Career Mode with. I still have some tokens I haven't found, some developer last lap times I haven't yet beaten, and some Career Mode races I haven't yet won. Otherwise, I'm pretty damned happy to complete the Career Mode!

Anyone that can sit through them loading times, gets a thumbs up from me.👍

The load times are long, but I've gotten used to the loading for the most part. The game is still fun once everything is all complete. If ever there is a ModNation Racers 2, then trying to decrease load times is a huge priority. It can be tough to do with such games that allow you to make your own content. I've learned this even with games like the TrackMania series (though load times are nowhere near as long as MNR).

I got me the "ModNation Star" trophy, which must mean I got over 5,000 total XP in ModNation Racers. I am now considered a "Hot Shot" apart from my "Phenom" rank. I'm at Level 16 and still have about seven wins. I had crossed the line once as the winner, but lost in one race. This one guy was a GOOD player I went up against. We had two straight close finishes. I had choked in the second race by drifting in the wrong direction in the final few corners of a race.

Speaking as a Mario Kart fan, ModNation Racers is just crazy! I just wish the loading wasn't as long. Otherwise, the online racing and the non-online action is just great fun. We all do things like honk our horns before races, getting those jump starts, chatting before races... we're all just having fun for the most part, and I love it! I would say that I've become a better racer by taking on online opposition.

All of a sudden, I could win races online in ModNation Racers. I think I had seven wins online when I started yesterday. After yesterday and after the overnight, I now have 12 online wins (10+ online wins gets you the "Showing the World" PSN trophy). That even included another beat down win at Penguin Palace and my first-ever win at Hidden Forest. The XP races introduce you to the Far East and Big City environments if you haven't paid for them. That's why my experience was so low at environments like those. So I don't forget- I last won by 12 seconds at Penguin Palace. My latest run there, I won by about 18 seconds.

If you come across me on ModNation Racers, I've gotten into making more karts. Many of what I make are all mostly inspired by real cars or just to fool around. Some people have downloaded some of my karts. I even was rewarded more Creation Slots because of uploading my content.

That "Red Screen of Death" (which I'm assuming RSOD means) happened at one point as I was about to do an online race. The screen froze at about 80% loaded, but rather than exit out, I let it load, and I was up and ready to race that track.

Ha! You got RSOD already.

I am renting my first PS3 game- Test Drive Unlimited 2. Considering how I'm new to this current generation of gaming, I would feel pretty bad to install a game (and its updates) if the game itself isn't good. I am still fairly excited to test drive TDU2, but I'm currently downloading updates for it. I have TDU for the PS2, which is not really considered the best version. However, I still loved the experience TDU1 had to provide. I know that in TDU2, I get to go to not only Oahu, but also Ibiza. This game should be even more immersive than the first title. I saw all the different trailers for TDU2. Nothing short of spectacular if you're a racing fan or any kind of car lover.

Considering a few more games now. Kind of interested in Infamous 2 and Prototype along with certain others I've mentioned in past posts.
