PS3 General Discussion

Well, this guy was cool. It was him and maybe... three or five of us in a makeshift clique. One guy was a fellow Texans (woohoo!), but the one guy who never had so much fun online was just happy we all came together and had fun.

Also not too long ago, it was the first time where I had a double-digit number of PSN friends online. As many as 10 were online at once. When I saw one YouTube video, one guy had as many as 29 friends online at once! I think I've seen how the whole webcam chat thing works from that video. It will be something to try out for sure for me. I trust there are fewer knuckleheads on PSN than on YouTube, so I'll take my chances. It will probably be more fun than my short-lived time on Stickam.

Here's something I forgot to mention once... I once attempted to backup my PS3 game data using an external drive. Not any of my Flash drives, but my Seagate external hard drive. The PS3 did NOT detect it at all. So I had to use one of my leftover Flash drives to store data and then port those over to the external hard drive.

There are still a number of things I am getting accustomed to with the PlayStation 3. Only twice since moving over my PS3 has it crashed. The most recent time was earlier last week when I was in a voice chat with people playing Test Drive Unlimited 2 when the game just froze on me. I am still somewhat considering trying out Netflix on the PS3, though I don't consider myself much a movie watcher. I know a lot of my PSN buddies do use Netflix.

Finally, I have somewhat wanted to join the modern first-person realm. I'm usually a late bloomer to a lot of things. All of the Call of Duty and Battlefield types often get me to at least try something new out. I'm still mostly doing my research as to what modern first-person shooter I should at least rent so that I can expand my PS3 lineup. I say modern FPS because I'm mostly an old school FPS gamer.

Do you enjoy TV? I spend more time watching TV shows than I do movies.

You know, I did a quick check, and my Expansion Drive is indeed NTFS and not FAT32. I am not going to change formats because I don't want to lose all of my data on my Expansion Drive (including games and backups of my blogs). I have a 320GB ard drive and don't to lose all of my material by having to re-format my hard drive.

So I will be more than happy to port over material to my Expansion Drive through another Flash Drive rather than risk losing all of my data to my current Expansion Drive.

Has anyone picked up resistance3 or planning on doing so?
I loved RES1 as it was basically my first FPS. Res2 was a big let down but having played res3 beta for almost a month, it gave me the same feel as the first game did.
Currently installing the day1 650mb patch and it will take a while.
Hopefully I'll see some of you online.

I feel like I have to buy it. But this will be the first Resistance I do not get right away. RT1 Did not count since PS3's were unavailable back in 06'. Ah that was the best 6 hour wait inline in the cold. Can't wait to do it again for Vita....

Anyway I plan on getting since I liked the first 2.

Since the US doller is better than the NZ dollar at the moment, I was gonna ask my dad (who's going to the US and UK for a work thing) to buy a couple of PSN cards. Can a US/EU card work with an NZ account? If not, it's just as easy to make a US/EU account (or both) and get a huge discount - there's a crapload of more stuff on the other PSN Stores than the New Zealand one :indiff:

No. The accounts have to be tied to the region that they originated from. For example, you can't buy a US game on a UK account. This is all tied to the DRM that Sony has.

Looking at a friend's Trophy list, I learned that while this person had 98% of the game's Trophy accomplishments, this person still had a Platinum trophy. That's because you complete all the tasks of one game, but was only missing out on a few Trophies from add-on/downloadable content. This was something I wanted to discuss as I'm still mostly being adjusted to life after the PS2 as well as being more involved in online play than I've EVER been in my time as a video/computer game player.

Usually the platinum trophy only applies to the trophies that are on the disk from new, would be a bit harsh demanding late adopters but DLC to get platinums if that DLC adds trophies

I'm considering upgrading my PS3 HD with a Seagate Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Drive

It's a 2.5 HD with 500GB disks (7200rpm) + 4GB Solid State Memory to increase performance. Buffer is 32MB. Manufacturer claims the firmware on the HD "learns" what files you use most and transfer those to the solid state portion of the drive, reducing loading times. It is a much cheaper solution than a pure Solid State Drive.

Does anyone here have it installed on a PS3? I hear Mac users have issues with compatibility, but does it work on PS3? And if it works, does it improve loading times as promissed?

Guys help,I am having a serious problem with the PS3 .It has been acting up lately(Iminnent death is Obvious)When I fire it up while a disc is already inserted ,the Disk icon does not appear so I have to eject and re insert the disk .Then there is the biggie I can never quit game I have to close it the PS1 fashioned way ,and everytime I press the PS button it freezes so I can't redeem my online pass, can't update games, can't send and recieve messages .......etc.Is there anyway past this aside from going to Sony(Don't have any money to blow right now).SO help really needed here guys and would be immensily appreciated.

I added another game to my PS3 collection- Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. I got it as a pre-owned game from Best Buy. I have not played any game yet. "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" is a collection various Sega Genesis/Megadrive titles. It's my first classic game collection I have for the PS3.

I do kind of want a top-tier action or shooting game, just to say I'm about more than racing games. So what I did was play Infamous 2 as a demo. The game is a bit tough to follow for me, but I somewhat got the hang of it through my brief play. It seems like a game I wouldn't mind owning had I the money.

Sometimes, I am compelled to try out other games popularly played by others. I guess am most interested in getting one of the major first-person shooters. So I was looking at the many options- "Call of Duty: Black Ops" (or any Call of Duty), the Killzone series, the Modern Warfare games, you know... most of the popular modern first-person shooters for the PS3. I even looked at Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2. I'm not really into the more modern shooters, but I kind of want to pick up a modern FPS just to be among the mainstream crowd. Other than that, I was also eyeing Tekken 6, Little Big Planet 2, Need for Speed Shift Unleashed, and stuff like that.

Still trying to enhance my collection of PS3 games little-by-little.

[UPDATE] Just recently, I not only moved up from Level 4 to Level 5, I have also picked up my first-ever Gold trophy from any game. I was playing "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" and got a Gold from completing the Golden Axe III objective.

Dead Space 1 is my 2008 game of the year. Its thrilling and its not too difficult even on the hardest setting. It the only Platinum I have too.

Far Cry 2 is a game that will keep you busy for a long time. You should go the cheap route. Pick up both Dead Space and Farcry 2 for cheap. You are almost guaranteed to like both. Far Cry 2 has odd aiming but you grow used to it. Amazon has both for less than $20 for both.

Killzone 2 is a great game too.

NFS:S2U is awesome. Glad to hear you like it. A good FPS game that I would recommend is MAG (Massive Action Game), 256 players at a time shooting each other out never gets old. :)

Was it Fallout 3? I believe it was that game that had one trophy which was impossible to get if you got another (you had to pick) so they said you needed all but 1 to get platinum.

so have you tested or herd anything on back on this. im upgrading my 80g fat and was also looking at this.

Does anyone else have to constantly download the iPlayer app again to use it? Every time I open it (even though it has the tick) it says it needs to download a file.

Does any one know how to hook up their PS3 to comcast internet?
I do the set up and everything to automatic detect.
When the test the connection comes up, it times out trying to get an IP address.
I am using a motorola SB5101U Modem

Thanks for your help

Getting an irritating problem.. I keep getting a message saying "The funds could not be added to your wallet" when trying to add money to buy the GT5 DLC.

Anyone know the problem?

Probably Server overload, try later.

Three things I wanted to share...

Last night, I noticed in the PlayStation Store there is something you can install to play PS2 games that allow HDD support. I think I have one or two PS2 games that have install options. Not sure if I want to give this PS2 thing a whirl or not.

I've been watching certain YouTube videos on various PS3 games. You know, I'm becoming a bit more convinced on the following games:

* MAG
* Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (except I heard the single-player deal can be completed in a few hours)
* Saints Row 2

Part of me just wants to get some more of the big-name titles just to be among the rest of the PS3 crowd. I don't want to be just about racing games. Speaking of which... I am starting to lean more towards getting "NFS: Shift." I do eventually want to get to "NFS: Shift Unleashed 2" (or whatever it's called). And just to say again, if I do get NFS Shift (which is a Greatest Hits title), it will be the first NFS console game I will have ever owned.

Let me get back to Saints Row 2 for a moment. The way I've heard of this game described and in seeing a video on it, I really feel like this game is even more silly than the GTA series, especially GTA3-GTA:VCS. So I am becoming a lot more convinced that the Saints Row series is fairly legit. So much so, that I just can't seem to connect with GTA4. It's like GTA4 became TOO much more realistic and not really as fun as the previous generation of GTA games. I would feel a bit like I am missing out on the real story of the game if I don't play the first Saints Row. With Saints Row 3 to be released in the near future, SR2 should hold me down pretty well. Only negatives I've heard about SR2 are cumbersome controls and not as good driving mechanics. So I may decide to get this game and add it to my collection.

One last thing... I am considering buying some of those PSN cards and redeem them to get stuff off of the PlayStation Store. There are some downloadable games and stuff I wouldn't mind buying online. For instance, I may join the TDU2 crowd that has the Casino feature. I feel this is probably the best way to make money without racing.

So my options are really open now.
