PS3 General Discussion

Grrrr.
Don't make me beat you.
*shakes fist*
the worst part is that I'm two weeks out of my warranty. :grumpy:

Umm, I've had my 40 gig phat since 07' and have had no problems with it. No RSOD, no YLOD, nothing.

Mine was "Gamestop Refurbished."
Only reason I bought was because it was the cheapest one in the store at the time. "/

When I say that I am "considering" games, I am going by what is available in most stores I see PS3 games sold. That's why I mention some of the later titles. Also, that's why I'm considering not getting "Little Big Planet 2," because I think I'd have to play the first game to appreciate its sequel. In comparison... when I was introduced to Grand Theft Auto, my first game was GTA3. My first WipEout was WipEout XL/2097. There are even old games I still somewhat want to play and own, like "blur" and maybe "GRID" too.

As for Test Drive Unlimited 2, I am enjoying my time in Ibiza. I am actually trying to raise some money to get a B4-class SUV for the off-road championship. I have two houses and three cars (Lancia Delta, Alfa Romeo Brera..., and a Chevy Camaro ZL1 (or whatever it's called)). I have tried out everything from buying clothes, to hairdressers, to cosmetic surgery, to even a car wash. Absolutely love the new experience compared to the rather limited TDU on the PlayStation 2 experience. Just an excellent game from what I've played. May even blog about it.

Well impressed by the demo of RedFaction Armageddon, it's a nice fps-ish game where you can destroy/repair buildings and there are tons of aliens ready to be splatted all over the place. The magnet gun, is cool.

Trust me, there is no need to ever play Little Big planet if you are considering LBP2. Unless all you want are a few easy trophies. LBP2 is compatible with every level, item DLC kits from LBP1. Its not really a sequal, all the levels are just examples of what's possible with the editor. There is no real story worth following :).

I have an issue with playstation plus products. I have 2 accounts on the PS3, the one with the plus expired has a different set of games/demos available to the account with the Plus membership active. All the demos I want are on the account where the membership has expired. What is going on, why are 2 different sets of Plus membership products?
This is regarding the playstation store and what they show you as being available to download.

Finally made it to Hawaii! I just basically went down a few roads just to get some Discovery going. My goodness- the supercars you race in this game are crazy fast. I still remember when I did a mission last night where I had to convoy an Aston Martin One-77. The thrill of 233 mph top speed is just insane!

Biggest mistake I've made so far- getting a Hummer H3. I've since traded up for a Range Rover. I actually wanted a Touareg, but I'll take my Range Rover. Only reason why I got the Hummer was because I wanted an inexpensive vehicle to take into the B4 Championship. Good as it was, I wanted better when I started lagging in some of the time events. I use the Roof Cam for the off-roading much like I do in GT4 and GT5.

As for the PS+ thing, I can't help you with that, unfortunately.

[UPDATE] Not only did I win the B4 Championship with my Range Rover, I dominated every event. Why the hell did I go with a Hummer besides just to have a B4-class machine? I'm now basically thinking about keeping my Range Rover and perhaps NOT go exchange my Range Rover Sport for the Touareg.

I'll be more specific with my playstation store problem. Can anyone see in the playstation plus folder the game Goldenaxe? I can see it on my non member account, £3 I think or free if plus member. But when I log into my account with plus membership, it is nowhere to be seen, a search yields no results. I might have to email Sony about this. It could be a secret restriction on free membership accounts, or just a mistake.

I guess I am learning something about open-world racing games. When someone drives around you or slows up behind you, he/she want a race. When you try to evade someone who tries to whack you off the road, he/she wants to fight. So was the case earlier tonight. I was trying to discover Oahu (Hawaii) in "Test Drive Unlimited 2." Tell me if this sounds like a mismatch- I am in my Range Rover, and this guy/girl in a Bugatti Veyron starts whacking me off the road. Earlier, this driver challenged me to a Co-op race. But since I rejected, he/she decided to ram the hell out my Range Rover to where I basically moved to another part of Oahu that I previously traveled.

Oahu is HUGE! I've been trying to find various buildings just to make the travel easier. I had the Range Rover for a reason- in case any roads I come across are off-road areas. Non B-Class vehicles are slow off-road, so I came prepared. I have no idea how many miles I logged in Hawaii, but it has to be at least 250 or even 500 miles. I found about four out of ten wrecks with that car that looks like the Shelby Cobra Daytona.

Needless to say, I actually have greater appreciation for Ibiza's beauty by playing TDU2. I've always known Ibiza as paradise for partying to electronic dance music, but you begin to appreciate how lovely Ibiza is when you start going all around Ibiza in TDU2. TDU2 will likely be a game I'll have to add to my PS3 collection eventually.

I have emailed Sony now regarding the account problems with Plus membership.
I managed to find Golden Axe via the home page on my plus account, but it wants to charge me £3.99 to download it, no free option...

Whats the advantage of having multiple accounts? My one is doing just fine :)..

I had 2 as the first 1 I made had a stupid name, then I made a good name for the 2nd. But cant delete the first as it is the prime administrator type account so i'm stuck with it forever.

I got my first-ever three-race winning streak online in ModNation Racers. Almost had four, but I was denied by inches at the next race. Funny enough... that was the same track where I had BEGUN my three-race winning streak (Boardwalk)! Something I do often times is send a message online to those memorable contenders in a race. I'm a good sport, so it's not like I'm going to make fun of somebody because I beat them. I usually pass along a message saying something like "Good Race!" In fact, I've also sent complimentary messages for races against clean racers in Gran Turismo 5 as well as Test Drive Unlimited 2.

Speaking of TDU2, my Blockbuster rental was up with that game. That is a game I will have to add to my collection because it was great fun playing this game. I almost want to play it again so I can do some more off-roading in my Subaru Impreza (though I think the one TDU2 has is the ugliest Subaru of all time). The Impreza is a rally-bred car, so I was having more fun going off-road with the Impreza than I do with an SUV. I almost wished TDU2 had proper rally cars because some of the off-road sections were fun to race on.

Life's good with the PS3! How about you all?

Its like $20 in some places, its not a risky buy :). I'm going to try to get some gaming this weekend, been so busy with other things.

I asked Sony again by email to look at my account, they wont even look at it without providing all this information:
- Your PlayStation Network (PSN) Sign in ID (e-mail address)
- Your PSN online ID
- Your Name
- Your Date of Birth
- Your Address
- Account creation date
- 5 Online IDs from your Friends List
- Console serial number
Security is good, but i'm asking for a password change or anything I just want them to see if there is a fault. They can just say yes or no.

Say hello to the newest owner of "Test Drive Unlimited 2"... me! Because I rented TDU2, I didn't do a lot of online racing. I may start doing more Club activity as well as take on a few more people online. Just got to be careful of (rare I use this word) douchebags in their Bugattis trying to wreck me or challenge me when I CLEARLY don't have a capable car to race them with. Just seek "JMarine25" if you're racing in TDU2 on the PS3!

On a different note, I may start to not have the PS3 on for so long sometimes. Sometimes, the system freezes up to where I have to manually shut it down. I may even use my PS2 as a base for the PS3, and to also be able to play PS2 games again without needing to set up the Memory Card reader deal for the PS3. I'm still very happy with the PS3 system as a whole regardless.

I even thought about getting "Little Big Planet 2," but when I went to Fry's, they charged a little more for it than what I've seen in most other stores for LBP2. I do kind of want to add LBP2 to my collection in the future.

Well my second PS3 died on Sunday (YLOD), fortunately I was one of the few who managed to sign-up for Continuous Play before it was closed.

Called Sony on Monday morning, replacement arrived today, however I just realised that the HDD I back-up to also died a few weeks ago, so its back to the beginning with everything for me.

Doh......

Was this a Slim model that got YLOD? I've had my 2009 Fat for 2 years now, I think its time to back up my save game data. Worst I had with this one was a dead Blu ray drive that I got repaired last summer.

Damn I feel like I must be one of the luckiest out there, original 60 gig from early 2007. No problems at all though I have replaced the power supply, thermal paste and fan simply as preventative.

Since getting Test Drive Unlimited 2, I don't think I've played any game where people have actually requested to be friends with me via PSN. Remember that being online and meeting new people are completely new to me. It's been about a month and a half since using my PS3 and being on any gaming social network medium (PSN, XBOX Live, etc.). I think I have a new appreciation for gaming simply by taking part in PSN and in connecting with others online.

On the other hand, there are a few idiots I've dealt with offering spam messages to me on PSN, and of course, some bone-headed players online. So thanks to all of you who wanted to connect with me and are connected with me on PSN.

Original 60gig (with PS2 comparability and SACD playback), fortunately that's exactly what its been replaced with.

PS3 Sizes

I actually had to do research to find this stupid information out so I figure it's work posting. It would be easier people didn't put so many wrong answers out there.

PS3 Slim
Approximately 290mm (W) x 65mm (H) x 290mm (D)
Approximately 11.4" (W) x 2.6" (H) x 11.4" (D)

PS3 Fat
Approximately 324mm (W) x 98mm (H) x 274mm (D)
Approximately 12.75" (W) x 3.86" (H) x 10.8" (D)

This post won't be so much on any gaming experiences. I experienced two different instances as I was playing Test Drive Unlimited 2, and the system froze up on me. I have never endured a series of freezing when I was playing my PS2. To try something a bit different, I was able to successfully move around my PS3 to a slightly different location. I could now be able to play with the DualShock 3 without needing to unplug it. I could also lay back on my bed and play games on the PS3 if I was too lazy to sit up and play. Thing is, I'm just concerned about the freezing of my PS3. A tremendous fear I usually have is that I am playing a game, it saves, game freezes (or power goes out), and I'm feeling like s:censored: because I have to start all over again.

Playing Test Drive Unlimited 2 has really gotten me to meet many more people on PSN. The other games in the Top 3 for me meeting new gamers are in this order:

1.) Test Drive Unlimited 2
2.) ModNation Racers
3.) Gran Turismo 5

While on stuff like PlayStation Home, I have gotten to meet a grand total of 0 people. Well, 0 friends and one hater. I am actually holding off on buying any more PS3 games (not enough money).

Oh, when I was playing TDU2 last night, it was the first time I successfully had a conversation with someone via voice chat. I mentioned in the "Anyone Still Play TDU2?" thread that someone invited me for a Co-Drive in his Bugatti Veyron. There were people who say to get a USB headset rather than a Bluetooth headset. So I used my Logitech ClearChat USB headset to listen in and chat during the whole thing. It was the first time I had engaged in voice chatting of some kind while gaming. I even thanked the guy for taking me on that wild ride around Oahu in his Veyron in TDU2.

I recently cleared 3D Dot Game Heroes. I'm now doing the Second Quest of this game. Atlus and company have done a GREAT job with this game! It's just old school cool.

My original 60GB died as well, but I fixed it. Look up gilksy's guide, no need to throw everything you've worked for away!

I fixed mine and then did a data transfer to my new one. Nothing, absolutely nothing was lost.

My 60GB still works, but is now asleep in its original box until further notice.

Last night, me and a few players on TDU2 were having fun with voice chat. This young guy was talking about how he never had so much fun online before. It's just so cool doing voice chat and having fun playing a game. You know? Video games are mostly about having fun. If you're not really having fun, you're not enjoying gaming.

I learned that the PS3 is also capable of webcam usage. Since I've gone from my Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 to my Sony Bloggie for videos, I want to see if webcam action is any good with the PS3. I've seen it work and heard that the Pro 9000 works with the PS3, but I haven't yet tested webcams with the PS3. That's what I want to try out in the future with this thing.

Someone doesn't know how to use the Internet.

Depending on your bandwidth it is capable of up to six people at a time. I managed a three-person web cam conversation with Digital-Nitrate and LandSeaAir, but that was when I was still running 1MB Internet and inevitably I would lose one of them. That resulted in me giving up.
