Cluck on GT Planet. Now I have seen everything!
The main concern from these organized nights is that business companies only invite those who are on the inside or give favorable reviews. Need I mention the Italy arm of IGN to help get one franchise across the quicksand?
Was this night open to all? Do you have any photos to share?
Most videos released from other nights show people who have little idea about sim racing sliding all over the track and missing braking points. We still have no real feedback on what the game is like unfortunately. People who could tell us are banned by that non disclosure thing.
Heh, I joined not long ago for a very specific purpose but stuck around, you all seemed like a decent bunch
.
To answer some of your points, as best I can (I am still uncertain about what I am allowed to say in public):
1. There was a very wide mix of people at the event. Journalists, YouTubers (I think that's what they call them, sorry, I'm old!), car manufacturer owners, young, old, middle-aged, the well-dressed and the poorly-dressed were all in attendance.
2. I believe it was invite-only. The only thing I can say is that "If your name's not down, you're not coming in"
. I was starting to panic, when they couldn't find my name on the list
.
3. I'm quite old-fashioned I'm afraid. I took 3 or 4 photos on the night, that's it (2 were of the leaderboard!). I was more interested in talking to people, listening to people's reactions - from a semi-independent standpoint - and having a go on the motion rigs.
4. I don't know if they had wheels hooked up to the 'direct capture' machines - I didn't realise there was another room, when I was at the event - so it's possible that you're seeing some people driving that are more used to using wheels. I don't know though, but I do know that Alan Boiston, of Team VVV, tried out the motion rigs and I believe he was the fastest non-SMS guy on the evening (but, again, I could be wrong on that). Certainly, the people I spoke to - and listened to - could all feel definite improvements over pCARS1.
As for "how the game is like", the events are quite obviously locked down to very specific combinations for people to try. Because everything is still work-in-progress but with some items further advanced than others, it doesn't make sense to let people loose on all the content, lest they pick a car or track that is not currently as advanced in the process.
Hope that helps a little
