Reece's Car Thread-WTF DID I BUY NOW

HEY GUYS, I bought a 240SX on Saturday!

The car is cleaner than I imagined. No rust at all. Runs perfectly. Interior was great. 5-Speed. Pignose. It was almost too good to be true. I was in love. While test driving it, I KNEW I was going to be buying that car. A rust free 5-Speed Pignose for dirt cheap? That's crazy.

Then I talked to him about his "title issue", and understood why it was so cheap.

He had NO proof he bought the car. Not a single piece of paper with his name on it. He had a copy of the title, but it was from a previous transaction, and he didn't even apply for one. I was crushed.

I was driving around a bit thinking about what I could do, my stepdad and I bouncing around ideas.

Then, my brother, who happened to come along with us had a fantastic idea.

"Why not call the people he says he bought it from?"

I texted the guy and asked if he still had their number, and I guess they got a new number. BUT, he found their number in YellowPages. They picked up and he told them the situation. Turns out, they had a clean title in their name.

So we drove to a town about an hour away from where the car was (and the car was 3 hours away from where I live) to pick up the title. Kind of a pain, but so worth it.

We met at the previous owner's office and signed it off. The car is in my name. I was the legal owner of a 240SX. Feels good.

Drive back to the car, do transaction, drive off in a dirt cheap, rust free 89 240SX. Drove it home, absolutely problem free. Wonderful. What a day. I was SOOO happy we found the title, that car is by far the cleanest car I have owned. Well, maybe aside from the 3000GT, though the 3000GT was more than twice as much.

Pictures to come Sunday.

Pignose lip1!!!

Congratulations on the new car! It's great that you got the title business sorted out so easily.

Nice! I Cant stop driving my 240, its so fun. You'll enjoy it. Mine should be painted soon o_o.

What are you gonna do with it?

I can't stop driving mine either.. I love this car! I am going to eventually get coilovers and wheels and all that cool stuff and weld the diff and enjoy it.

Pignose lip1!!!

I'm looking for one  are you in the Zero Clearance facebook group?

Congratulations on the new car! It's great that you got the title business sorted out so easily.

Thank you! I am so happy I got the title stuff figured out. I would have hated to walk away from the car.

Pictures! And yes I know it's kind of dirty :nervous:

Its even red. That's the colour I'd get mine in. Very tidy body.

I'm happy you got the ownership papers sorted. Nice buy.

It's been repainted, btw. Might be a clue as to why it was so cheap or "clean", but the
body panels seem to line up better than mine do, and mine's never hit anything.

Yeah, the guy I got the title from repainted it himself. He bought it and it was spraypainted black. It isn't professional by any means, but works for now.

^ busy on Sunday :(

Anyway, I have things to do with this car before June. That is not the problem. The problem is, what do I do first?

So, what I want/need before June:
-Coilovers (should be pretty easy)
-Welded Diff (easy easy)
-Hydraulic Handbrake (easy)
-Wheels of some sort, HOPING I can find another cheap set of Hoshino Impul G5s (Hopefully easy, Just barely missed a set of G5s in my bolt pattern for 350...)
-Cheap wheel maybe
-FIX MY DAMN EXHAUST

What should I do first? What else should I do?

also thinking of trading my teardrops for a set of these if I find someone who would want to.

Exhaust, love how mine looked when I first got it installed. However the snow kinda ruined it and it looks yucky so I might just buy me another one.

Diff
Coilovers
Wheels
Seat/steering wheel.

At this point the car should be driftable, have a decent suspension setup, and you should be able to drive it effectively.

You don't need a hydraulic handbrake, especially if you're running a stock ka on some stock tires. Get better brake pads and they'll do the trick. Also, you're not really going to be able to pull the brake with one hand and steer with the other while holding in the clutch and everything if you're sliding around in the stock seat.

I should mention, a cheap wheel, especially with a stock seat where you're using the wheel for support, is just going to turn into a banana in a very short time. I've seen it happen so many times. Get a real wheel, you'll thank yourself later.

^ That was my plan. And by cheap wheel, I didn't mean like some eBay thing, but maybe a used Nardi or something. I plan on buying seats too.

So so so so so so, update-ish?
Got bored.

Still have some left to remove. Didn't get it all out before I had to go to my dad's house for the weekend.

Dropping the car off at a friend's place on the second weekend of April to get some seriously rad stuff done. Hint, he does metal fabrication and diff welding.

Coilovers are hopefully being ordered in April too.

Aside from that I'll probably be on the quest for a ton of 4x114 wheels and tires to use as spares.

I found a pair of Centerlines for $200

Might buy them because I can't afford real SSR MK1s and I love those so this is the closest I will get for a while.

Looking for a Pignose lip too.

That's all for now.

So, you removed your perfectly good interior on your otherwise stock car?

What was the point of that again?

I realize the inspiration might have been something like this:

or

timthumb.php

But what you've ended up with is a $1000 car that now looks like a $500 car. Please put it back in.

I did it because I am prepping for something like this
_3085.jpg

Plus I have lots of friends who need interior bits that I have so that means more money and THAT means I will have something like this sooner
pics-max-2116-365039-nissan-240sx-s13.jpg

Or maybe something like this
tumblr_l6jvhjIayN1qbtd6io1_1280.jpg

And I will be doing a LOT of this over the summer too,
09082053-4895-4B05-9A23-B2FB054F1A06-376-0000005498BC66A5_zps17c60259.jpg

so I need all the space I can get.

Also... when I drive I pay almost 100% attention to driving, and rear seats means I would have to haul people around which means I won't enjoy driving as much. I hope my argument is somewhat valid.

You can do whatever you want to it.

But to one owner to another. I wouldn't be ripping stuff out your car even if your getting it ready for drifting. I mean unless your driving another car daily.

I would wait for all that in the long run.

Just try to get the car stable mechanical wise. Than make it look decent or to where you want it.

It is absolutely perfect mechanical wise. And this won't be much of a daily either, but I see where you are coming from.
And since when is a stripped interior required to go drifting?
Not required, but it's essentially free horsepower and with it gone I can fit way more stuff I will need to bring to events.
The only reason to make it a missile like the black one is if the body was worse than your AW11.

Keep it clean!
You're right. I'll keep this one clean. But some day... some day I will have something like that black one.

The problem is, you're not anywhere near that. Neither your car nor your driving level, nor your income.

Ripping your interior took all of what, a day? Put it back in and leave it in until you're ready to put a cage in it and paint it. It will probably be a few years, and in the meantime, you don't have to drive a car that looks like you found someone else's "project" in a field somewhere.

I promise you won't feel it, and it won't make you a better drifter. It just makes your stock car look like a pos.

Well, obviously not.

EDIT: Not to mention the entire rear interior of a 240s weighs only like 30lb anyway.

I am also helping out a friend of mine by stripping my interior (Just like how I helped out a friend by selling my Supra). She is missing all of her interior bits behind the driver's seats. I am also making a bit of money that I could really use. I have reasons why I removed them. Not having ~40% of my interior doesn't bother me at all, nor does a person who thinks my car looks like trash. It's my car and this is the car I am building to my personal preference soooo...

Anyway. These happened.
dscf3103a.jpg

Might pick them up this Sunday, if not that then I am getting them shipped. (They are in Chicago)

Not much else is happening. Aside from some event pre-registration and budgeting. I'm doing MAPerformance Proving Grounds 2013.1 and 2013.2 and I am considering setting some money aside for AutoMass Round Three.

I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just trying to be realistic. I really have never met anyone who tore out their interior and never regretted doing it to some extent.

My suggestion on those coilovers is dissemble them when you get them, clean them, and anti seize EVERYTHING. Seized coilovers suck bad. That being said, they don't appear to adjust ride height independently of preload. You may be disappointed with your ride height with these, just a heads up.

For what it's worth, I too think you shouldn't have stripped it until you were ready to actually transform it into a purposeful looking interior in one go, as in roll cage, racing seat and painting.

But hey, your car so all good. I went half way with mine by removing the carpet in the boot. I had to, to mount the battery nicely, and spent ages in the with cleaning products to clean it all up so it looked tidy.

Yeah I was thinking I should probably anti seize them. And ride height, I'm aware of that. Though I can't go too low because all the roads here are awful and there are just too many pot holes... I'm thinking I will use these ones for a year or two and then upgrade to KSport or Fortune Auto or something down the road.

I am collecting parts to turn it into a nice looking interior with functional stuff, and I am also thinking of doing a Fuel Cell or Battery Relocation. Once it gets a little warmer I am for sure cleaning it out.

She is missing all of her interior bits behind the driver's seats.

Aaah ok. Now I get it.

I am also making a bit of money that I could really use.

Don't see an interior buying you more than a few meals at McDonalds. (Refer to my first reply)

I have reasons why I removed them.

Refer to my first reply.

...nor does a person who thinks my car looks like trash.

Make that two.

It's my car and this is the car I am building to my personal preference soooo...

So far you haven't built anything. Just removed stuff.

Dude trust us, most of us have been there. The only reason I haven't spent money on putting the rest of my interior back is because I'm one of those "hard core enthusiasts" so I just never feel like putting forth the effort. If I were to do it all again I would've just left it in. 90s Japanese cars' interiors are pretty light. They all use foam rear seats and manual sliders. If you want to lose any noticeable "weight" then get a lighter flywheel and driveshaft and a good seat too. Then, by the time you've ran out of things to buy you probably won't even care about spending money on a lighter hood.

Anyway. These happened.
*Generic Tein Basic*

Trust me, just because they're green does not make them any good. If you're going to buy coilovers, buy coilovers. Don't buy coilovers then buy coilovers again a "a year later."

Though I can't go too low because all the roads here are awful and there are just too many pot holes...

I doubt it.

I'm thinking I will use these ones for a year or two and then upgrade to KSport or Fortune Auto or something down the road.

KSports wouldn't be an upgrade. Again, just save up money and buy something decent the first time instead of buying these Teins and then probably never replacing them because you keep wanting to save for something else.

The truth may hurt but the pain builds character.

Clean interior stuff is worth a lot more than you think.

Make that two.

Make that a billion and it wouldn't really bother me.

Not really even doing it for less weight at this point.

I trust Tein. I have experience with them (Not on my own cars but I have driven cars with them before) and they are fine. Everyone I know who has Teins says they are fine. Also I would rather spend however much money on decent Coilovers and a lip and spare wheels/tires and getting my diff welded and whatever else than on good Coilovers and nothing else.

I doubt it.

You've obviously never been here then...

Hey now, you should just be happy that I didn't go with Emusas or Shocks And Springs like others wanted me to do.

I don't see why you think I won't replace them.... I'll give them a go for a season or two and then upgrade. That isn't an outlandish claim.
