Well that's all welded up haha. Have fun parallel parking. At least you'll get all your power to both wheels.

Oh won't that be fun... Lol.

Got the diff put in today. Yesterday was filled with old gasket maker removal, cleaning, etc.

I LOVE IT.

It feels like a completely different car! It was weird at first but now I think I'm used to all the chirping and stuff. I actually think I like the tire chirping.. I dunno why. Reminds me of all the cars that inspired me to buy a 240.

This thing is so much easier to slide now. It's a night and day difference. I love it so much! First event is in three days. Here's footage from last year:

This car is exactly where I want it to be.

So not too much has changed.

Painted my wheels.

Painted my hood.

Took my crash bar out.

Planning for the future.

Making money for seats and harnesses.

I want an SR eventually.

Wow. Amazing thing today.

So I went to a self serve salvage yard today with two friends of mine. They had all three of our cars, 240, Neon, and Camaro. We split up, looking for our parts. I looked through the entire import section and I couldn't find it. It was recently purchased by them too, so I was really let down. But, then I went to the very last row and saw a Pignose front end sticking out. I rushed over.

This car. Oh my. It had Headlight surrounds, a lip, and mint interior. It was a 1990 Coupe in Red. I should have gotten some pictures of it.

The driver side had a bit of damage, the fender was damaged and the door was ruined. The door was sticking out and sagged so low it couldn't even close.

The underbody of this car. Oh my lord. I thought MY car was bad. The frame rails, literally weren't there anymore. It was so rusty. The shock towers were also rusted terribly, there were holes in them.

I went inside it. The interior. Oh my. It was complete, it was 100% MINT, and it was original. Light blue seats and carpet, black interior panels, black crack free dash with all the vents and everything. Mint condition steering wheel, perfect door cards, the thing seriously looked brand new from the inside. It was an auto, but wow. Amazing. Even had original stereo and tape deck! I was amazed and really wish I got pictures, a friend told me he went by and took just about everything so I can't go back and get pictures now. I didn't take anything though, I didn't need much interior stuff and I gutted my car anyway, and my dash is mint and crack free as well. My steering wheel is corroded and weird though, so I should have taken that. But oh well. I am still amazed by how clean and complete and original the interior was.

Anyway. I ran to my friend's Neon to get some tools. Ran back. Still there. Nice. Got Mint Condition Headlight Surrounds, and a not too bad lip. So happy.

This stuff was $16. I am so happy I got this stuff. All the lips I have seen have been upwards of $70, and that's in terrible condition. Headlight surrounds are also very hard to come by, and very expensive. Such a fantastic day. The only thing wrong with the headlight surrounds is one of the mounting tabs on the driver side is broken. But that was my fault anyway

About twenty minutes after I left, two friends of mine (the ones that got the interior) saw the picture I posted on facebook of the stuff, and they went to the same yard and they originally planned on getting... Headlight surrounds and the lip. Good timing on my part! But sucks for him because now he's gonna have to overpay for stuff. OH WELL.
The lame thing is, I won't be with the car for another week so I can't put this stuff on yet. Oh well.

Congrats on the rare goodies from the salvage yard. How did your drift meet go in post #187? You never posted videos or any info on the event.

I didn't.. It went very well. The car felt fantastic, totally fantastic. Despite having a stock KA I felt it had enough power to have some serious fun and I felt the setup is exactly where I want it to be and it works for me. Nothing broke, nothing went wrong, just a solid problem free weekend of shredding tires. I don't have too many pictures or videos but here are some:

This kid, Riley Fremont. Wow. He's an amazing driver and his car is awesome. SR20, Gutted, Caged, Kouki front end swap, full suspension, etc. He got 3rd that weekend, and he's 16 years old. Amazing.

Overall, a REALLY fun weekend and I have gained a new appreciation for the car.

Yeah junkyards rule.
Absolutely!
Don't forget to look for FCs!
There's an automatic convertible in East Bethel U Pull R Parts!

This is where the car is now.

Disregard license plate tilt, total accident. Gotta fix it next time I'm up with the car.

Lowered my coilovers more.

So, when I go back up there with the car again, I'm putting on those headlight surrounds and that lip. Kinda thinking about putting the lip on my Sharknose bumper. We'll see. Gonna move my plate too, and probably move that Race Gas sticker. Might take that crappy eBay exhaust tip off and do something else. Gotta do something cool to my hood too.

THATS how you update a thread! Glad to hear the event went well and thanks for sharing all the great pics. I would love to watch a drift event one of these days. I just never hear of any in my area. I bet its a lot of fun to watch or even participate in.

Haha thanks! They are a ton of fun. I see you're in Michigan, well August 17th weekend is Midwest Drift Union: Streets Of Detroit, not sure how close you are to Detroit but MDU events are always fun and lots of amazing drivers show up. I'd check it out if I were you!

First, guys, let's look at how awkward I appear at car meets.

It is crazy how much better the car looks. $16 transformed it from a really crappy drift car to a less crappy drift car that can actually be taken somewhat seriously.

Hopefully this little motivating piece of tape will help me go balls out when I'm drifting from now on.

Yeah my car has a lot of miles.

Well, I wanted to make the car more respectable, and so far I think that's going well. But what to do next...
I want to get that STUPID exhaust tip off. But the bolts are seized and rusted. And I'm out of WD40. Might just say screw it and get catback. I also want to get seats, stock stuff sucks. But I found a cheap Type X spoiler, too... Hmmm.

Well I'm losing some money tonight.

Why?

Ordering exhaust.

Also getting this

Took the hood pin lanyard things off. they were SUPER useful but they looked bad. I want to get a new hood, and NRG Locking hood pins.

Going drifting again in 3 weeks!

:boggled:

You've not improved this car sir. I mean it's your car and do whatever to it, but this is why it's impossible to find a decent 240 anymore.

I hope you know that, well....
a) I don't care
and
b) This car was never decent, the guy I bought it from is one of the biggest liars I have met. He covered up all of the rust when I looked at it, didn't tell me about any of the rust, this 240 is seriously one of the rustiest 240s I have seen.

For example, I went over a rough bump back in February and the rockers separated from the rest of the car. That's how rusty it is.
c) no money, no job, in high school
d) It's my third car and I'm younger than you think, it's not gonna be super amazing any time soon.

You know what, for who I am, I think I'm doing pretty damn good.

Also... I don't see how going from a weak stock 240 with lots of issues to a problem free 240 with coilovers, a welded diff, added OEM parts, and exhaust isn't improvement... Unlike you (now I'm not slamming you), I can't afford a ton of expensive parts. So I do what I can. I don't see why all the people with awesome cars feel it's alright to go and crap on the people with worse cars. Honestly, I look up to people with cars like yours, and people with driving skills like yours. But not you. I don't want to beat young kids down when they're starting out and doing everything they can. It just kinda shows how mature you really are... Honestly, you were in this same position, everyone was. We all start some where.

You're missing the point. I've got no problem with people that don't have the money to spend on a car. In fact, in the first 2 years I owned my car, all I did was a manual swap to it. That's it. And it's taken my 5 years to get it to where it is. I'm used to seeing stuff like that pop up within a year or so. I don't make good money.

I'm not knocking you for repairing the car or whatever else you've done. But. Why did you drill holes in your fenders and run zipties through them? Why did you attach your oem bumper to your stock car with zip ties? It fit much better and looked perfectly fine before. You ruined your paint on your headlights to do a sweet jdm rising sun on it. Where is your fuel door? Why is your hood white? Why are your factory wheels spraypainted purple?

It's one thing to slowly build up a car because you don't have the funds, while in the meantime keeping it as nice as possible, but it seems to me you're spending time and money degrading the car, to the point where it started off cosmetically needing a paint job and some rust repair, but now, on top of both of those things, it needs significant work to return it to a "clean" car again because you've had a field day with zip ties, a drill and some spray paint.

You say you don't care, and that's fine, but how about not caring about what people think and making a car look nice, rather than beating it up and "not caring". Why does it seem every time someone pulls the "I don't care what people think" excuse, it's always to justify a beat up car? (well that, and big gt wings on drift cars lol).

Again, I don't think it's alright to crap on people who have "worse" cars. I don't care long as you make an effort to keep it nice. I do think it's worth questioning why someone actively makes a car look beat up. My 2 cents. You don't make a lot of money, keep the car as nice as possible, don't succumb to cheap "mods" like spray painting random things because you haven't the money to get nice things. Just leave it alone. Save your money, drive the car and buy meaningful things that actually make the car nice. For example, save your money for a few months, a year, buy some wheels. They will transform the car and do more for it than everything else you've done to it cosmetically.

EDIT: This guy's paint looks like yours. The car can easily still be nice, for not a lot of money.

That fender started falling apart, due to.. guess what... rust.
I wanted to be different with my headlight cover. Fuel door bolts broke, because of..
And the same thing happened to the bolts holding the bumper on.
My hood is white because I needed to cover up the crap that was already on it, I'm not even going to keep this hood because it is messed up awfully.
I wanted blue wheels.

I don't see how I am degrading it.

I think you took that wrong, I meant I don't care about other people's opinions or views toward this car. I do care about the car, a lot. It's one of the few things I really have. But if people talk crap about it, it doesn't affect me because all that matters is if I like it and I do.

Again, I don't think it's alright to crap on people who have "worse" cars. I don't care long as you make an effort to keep it nice. Well I'm doing a very meaningful thing to the car by installing the exhaust I ordered tonight, I'd hate for you to see the exhaust as it is now because it's bad. Stock exhaust was falling apart anyway, so there.

I'd buy wheels but I want to get a seat first.

The car never looked nice. Ever. The guy I bought it from painted it with a cheap paint gun made for a house, and he painted it because the owner before him spray painted the whole thing flat black. That same owner also took the lip and headlight surrounds off, and put that crappy exhaust tip. So it never looked good. I'm doing what I personally think improves the car. Hell, I've got a start with finding the headlight surrounds and lip. I think my poor old 240 is on a good path.

Thanks for your input.

You've not improved this car sir. I mean it's your car and do whatever to it, but this is why it's impossible to find a decent 240 anymore.

But..... If people didn't do this. Young Kids like us wouldn't be able to afford them and fix them up :P.

I'm only saying this because I feel I'm really close to being in your shoes.

Forget about the drifting crap. Yea its cool but its not worth it. Especially the cost down the road. Driving the car around is fun also. Its fun when I do it but driving around in a car that looks like crap is a different story. Just wait later in life for the drifting stuff.

If anything YOU NEED TO GET A JOB D=. I know its possible to work during high school cause I was working 35 hours a week and still getting good grades. Once you get the Dinero save it and worry about keeping the engine running and making your car look nice. Save the money til you get something you really want.

I really don't drift much, like hardly at all. I have only done that one event, and I've got some hookups for cheap parts. So I think I'll be fine.

As for the job, yeah... I'm looking.

Yeah it did :scared:

So guys. My exhaust came tonight.
557430_612928455425374_1045576051_n.jpg

Shift knob hasn't arrived yet... HOPEFULLY tomorrow.

But with the good news, is some bad news.

The idiot that owned it before me... WELDED the exhaust together.
(and PB told me that I ruined the car, LOLLLLL)

Welded the cat and midpipe together. Ugh.
This really pisses me off. My frame rails are shot, too. Rusted and damaged.

So I can't put the exhaust on, and I need to get some shop to do it.

I'm half tempted to get a different 240.

Oh I love a new Exhaust =] it looks so shiny. If anything remove the silencer. I don't think it makes a difference. I still have mine on and all it seems like it does is make it sound like a Honda (what others think, sounds like my old car to me) rather than make it quiet.

I only paid 80 bucks for a shop to do mine.

Also I hope your shift knob isn't aluminum. It's terrible in the hot and cold =[. Burned my hand one day grabbing it.
