Also Oryol, commuter town. Beaver in the puddle . Looks like Oryol is just sinking city and political demonstration from my previous post isnt something over the top here.

When they demolish monuments of other nations who took over their own nation for personal gain? The Soviets didn't help Poland, they re-conquered Poland from Germany. Neither Germany nor USSR wanted Poland to exist. So why on earth would Poland want to celebrate the soldiers of a nation which prevented them from existing in the first place?

Man, for a country that has no military, no money, and no quality of life y'all be smoking some quality herb over there.
Exactly, we do not destroy the Russian cemeteries, we are only removing the monuments which are for us a symbol of the Russian occupation of our country. The Soviets did not liberated us, they only re-conquered Poland from Germany on their way to defeat Nazis. Obviously we appreciate Soviet's contribution in defeating the Nazis (without them it could not be possible, but they did it only because Hitler had attacked them in 1941, if it had not happened, both Germany and Russia did not want Poland to exist, the same as it was in 18th and 19th century). Our true liberation from any regime took place just in 1989-91, not in 1945.

The Netherlands and Germany will provide Ukraine with self propelled Howitzers, the PzH2000.

Man, that thing is girthy.

Looking at Wikipedia about, it looks like it can shoot three-round bursts over 9 seconds and can sustain up to 13 rounds a minute. It also appears more powerful than the current M109A7 the US uses.

Russia plans to take control of Ukraine's south regions to create a path to Transnistria. Now it's official.

I wonder what the excuse will be for Russia to invade Moldova. Moldova wanting to join NATO? They (somehow) violated the Minsk agreements? Or are they simply nazis?

Russia starting to piss off almost everyone surrounding it, someday they might be the ones who get invaded.

Russian speaking separatists in eastern Moldova, allegedly.

Russia's immediate plans are to do with securing Donbas and Mariupal, and it seems they could easily lose or be seriously stalled.

A path to Transnistria would necessitate taking Odesa, in my opinion a near impossibility.

Looks like Hitler’s plan is to restore the Soviet Union. He has raised the Soviet flag in Ukraine and put it on the uniforms of his troops.

Edit: Sorry, I meant Stalin.

Edit2: Sorry, Putin :banghead:
Most likely, its part of parade preparation.

Yeap. Their big battle for Donbass is in struggle for 4 days and after Moscow was sink there is no way Russia would do anything near Odessa from sea. Also, we should not forget about big angry Nikolaev.

Its more likely that Ukrainians would start to recapture Kherson and Mariupol.

I shouldn't be by now but I'm amazed at the incompetence of Russia's armed forces. The Moskva was equipped with lots of sophisticated defence systems; radar, SAMs, chaff, electronic jamming and conventional weapons if anything gets too close. Using the facts best known, to have not known or seen that two anti-ship missiles were incoming means that:

The radar was turned off (what a dumbass)
The missiles weren't prepped (what a dumbass)
The chaff wasn't deployed (what a dumbass)
The jamming wasn't engaged (what a dumbass)
The conventional weaponry wasn't used (what a dumbass)

Considering this vessel was in an active warzone, either the above is true or it was all switched on but the crew was so unprepared that they weren't trained on how to use them. It is staggering that something like this happened so easily. I read that if faced with a battery of anti-ship missiles, the Moskva should be able to destroy or disable 6-8 of them. Instead, 2 missiles sailed right up and sent the Russia Federation's Black Sea flagship right into the ground very easily.

Because of this, every Russian vessel in the Black Sea is now at a much greater risk and the chances of a successful amphibious assault have been savagely reduced.

And I'm not having a go at the conscripts and crew of the Moskva, it's not their fault they're cattle waiting to be slaughtered, it's not their fault they weren't trained, it's not their fault that they're plonked into deadly situations with no help. It's the incompetence of the decision makers and the higher ups.

Is it just homage to the country's history? I was under the impression that Putin has been strongly anti-communist for a long time, despite serving in the KGB under the USSR (& theories that his invasion of the Ukraine is part of a desire to restore the USSR's glory).

We don't know if any other army could do better. Last time something similar happened was series of conflicts between Israel and Arabic countries.
What happened to the Moskva is surprising, but it's not something that other militaries can claim immunity from. The situation is kind of similar to the USS Stark Incident, although it's slightly (only slightly) more understandable why the Stark's defenses were shut off as technically it wasn't at war:

On the other hand, other militaries have done much better than the Russian Navy. Iraq made a similar effort against the Coalition during the Gulf War, but all of their attacks were repelled. The Coalition at least responded, which is something the Moskva apparently didn't do at all.

To me it comes across as being more like the Russian Empire and its imperialist "foreign policy" rather than the Soviet Union.
****ed mix of both, yeap.

We don't know what happened. Most likely its result of underestimation of enemy which is result of 8 years of propoganda. Tail wagging the dog.

So what should we do with that "whoever does not miss the Soviet Union has no heart. Whoever wants it back has no brain" quote from Putin?

You say maybe defenses were off, I say they probably were out of comission.
