Because I want to keep this thread doing until some sort of news hits, here is a nicely modified ZN6 attacking spa. I'm a big fan of this exhaust (plus he plugged the stock noise generator) and this shifter is awwwwesome. Unfortunately it's also $1,000.

You guys are going to kill me for saying this but what's the point of going WOT on those endless straights, especially when you're all out of gear? Isn't that just unnecessary wear and tear and heat soak for your car?

If you mean in regards to the video above, people like to get the most out of their car, so why not go WOT. He only ever got to the top of 5th gear, at the end of a straight, so shifting to 6th might not seam worthwhile. Tracking any car will put more wear and tear on it, so I assume the driver knows the risk that they are taking in terms of servicing the vehicle. Also typically the stock redline is low enough that you can hold it there for a while without really overheating the engine, and low enough that the engine can't damage itself.

Like this?

I think Toyota should just rename the 86 to a Lexus and jack up the price to a few thousands dollars less than the RC if they going to fit that grill.

E.g. Toyota Camry and Lexus ES.

I think this guy was trying break his personal best lap time.

Yes he COULD have shifted into 6th toward the end of the kemmel straight but 6th gear in the 86 is a bit tall and there's no point unless you're at redline in 5th or you'll end up below the fat part of the power curve after the shift. In so far as I can tell, he wasn't quite there. And it's quite steep up hill at that point so even if you're quick with the shift, you're going to lose some momentum. In other laps and video, he does shift into 6th. But when you're going for quick times, 10ths count.

I can tell you first hand that the GT86 does indeed have an issue with overheating/hot oil temperatures when you're pushing redline on the track. When I was at VIR last year, I was seeing over 270*F after just 3 laps. And that's a track with three, 5th gear WOT sections. I had to end up doing 1 cool down lap for every 2 hard laps and it totally ruins your momentum. After that, I realized I had to have an oil cooler installed. And looking at this guy's car, a fully caged track day special, I'm almost positive he's running an oil cooler as well. Those of us in the FT86 community know it's pretty much a necessity if you're doing regular track events on circuits with long straights and/or high ambient temperatures.

But I will say, running without an airbag, the guy should really consider using a HANS device.

It's less attractive than before....that's disappointing.
What is with Toyota styling lately? Ugh. Not to mention despite that, their reliability appeal is pretty much all they have going for them save for a few cars. I just spent the week driving a 16MY RAV4 and the thing was horrible.

Anyway, at least they're bringing GT86 badging to the US...

The back definitely looks better now but I'm not sure how I feel about the front looks kinda ugly but a little bit ok I guess.

It has 5 additional horses and torques.. Yay? Oh, and apparently the gearing gets a tweak too.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I prefer the original front. Supposedly they've tweaked the interior as well but I have yet to see a picture.

Damn it I'm actually somewhat angry at Toyota for ****ing this up. I was eagerly anticipating the facelift. I thought they would simply clean up the original design a little bit. Instead, they went the opposite way. They anthropomorphisized it. They gave it a bulbous nose and a couple of dumb little fangs. They gave it stupid fat mouth. They went too literal. It just looks stupid now. The very best detail on the original design was the straight and pronounced leading edge of the hood between the headlights and the rather nicely shaped grill opening. The whole mass at the front of the car was very nice. The only thing that needed fixing was the "mutton chop" look of the bumper as it turned up at the sides. All of that restrained and careful design is gone now.

I was planning on buying one if the facelift was good and the engine was improved. Now I'm definitely not. The current car isn't good enough, and this thing likely won't be better and it is for sure uglier. Poor effort Toyota, poor effort.

Well... It could have been worse than that. But i still think the best styling is the current one. The facelifted version reminds me a lot of the LFA.

Meh... I prefer BRZ anyways.
