If I had the money I'd buy one, and immediately buy the pre-facelift front end. And new wheels... They still haven't done anything about those wheels...

Because I want to keep this thread doing until some sort of news hits, here is a nicely modified ZN6 attacking spa. I'm a big fan of this exhaust (plus he plugged the stock noise generator) and this shifter is awwwwesome. Unfortunately it's also $1,000.

You can easily cobble together a makeshift extended shifter. Buy a normal short-throw shifter, then turn an extension on a lathe with female threads on one end to put on top the short-throw, and male threads on the other to put a knob on top. My dad made several of these for my buddies a few years ago. Worked like a charm.

Well this one is a little bit more than an extended shifter. You can check them out here, a real work of engineering:

On a Fiat 500:

The design moves the entire fulcrum point of the shifter up much higher so there is a net-zero (conceptually) on the shifter throw with the longer lever. It's also highly adjustable and most reviewers seem to indicate its the best shifter they've ever used. Now whether or not that cost is worth it on a street car...probably not.

Everyone's hot and bothered about the looks of the 86, and I'm over here thinking, "Wow that ain't half bad."

If anything, it makes the car look a little more luxurious - which was never the problem in the first place. It may indicate to some extent that Toyota has no idea what to do with the car, versus Subaru who seem to just be staying the course.

Yeah, but does it need to be?

That's because Toyota isn't listening to what people want. Well, Subaru either for that matter.

They were listening when it comes to the tail lights. Looks very similar to the ones many people swap out the originals for.

Is the BRZ due a facelift, too?

Probably, but I'm really hoping even the base car takes after the STI Performance Concept even a little, and I really wouldn't be surprised if a facelift was announced alongside a production STI BRZ to lead the new look into the market. Less extreme for the standard models, obviously, but there are a few features that would really bring the rest of the BRZ's design together, even toned way down from this.

I mean, I love mine as I have it anyway, but it could really afford to have a little refining done to the design.

Isn't a Subaru ZC6, and a Toyota ZN6?

Is there enough of difference between the two chassis that gives them different names?

Not really. The only difference is in the compression rate on the springs and the front bumper. The FRS is made to be a little more drift happy where the BRZ is built for balance. They're also both manufactured by Subaru. The reason for the different names is that they each wanted to have their own version of their joint creation to tweak and tune, which is why we have things like Scion's Release Series 1.0 or Subaru's Series Hyper.Blue. They both started on the same foundation, but seem to be taking the car in different directions, which creates even more variety for the affordable FR sports car segment.

Also, I'm not sure how much I trust these, but they look like what I would expect and they're way too subtle to just be aftermarket parts.

Aside from the buttons on the wheel I'm really liking it. If this really is just a facelifted model instead of some special edition, which the wheels and kickass headlights make me think it is I love it. Lots of small changes that makes the car appear more aggressive, without making it look too flashy. Looks like the interior got some much needed quality upgrade materials. I've taken car of most of it myself or through aftermarket, but I swear they contracted Fisher Price to make most of the interior trim.

But seriously, those headlights are something else. I wonder if they'll fit on the current BRZ. :D

Why can't TRD slap on a supercharger? I mean, they've done it with most boring models in the lineup like Auris for example, so why not the 86?!

I think it would be a bit harder to engineer a factory supercharger for the boxer engine than it would be to fit a turbo and subsequent cooling.

And that would put it in the same performance category as Imprezas due to lighter weight.
Do you think there'd be much cross-shopping between an all-wheel drive sedan and a 2+2, rear-drive coupe, even if they had similar performance figures?

I'm not sure there would be. It's not really a 911 vs Cayman situation, where both cars are ostensibly similar.

Not a fan of those large intake things where fog lights usually go. That's a trend going around in car design right now that I don't like at all.

I can't really say that I believe many people would cross-shop a turbo BRZ and a WRX STI, but I wonder how many people are basing their decision of buying the WRX STI on the fact it's a saloon.

It would be nice if they were practical, but I kind of like them. I do think they look much better with the fog lights in, though.

I'm assuming the model I posted is the premium, since it doesn't have fog lights, but it's an auto, which is currently only an option for the Limited. So unless they're changing around the trim levels the car just doesn't have fog lights. Which just seems...weird.

It's so odd. A facelift could have been a chance to refine the design, but instead they've made it ever-so-slightly but noticeably uglier. I'd have been happy for them just to give it some slightly flashier headlights and tail lights.

Wonder if anywhere sells Style Cb-like front clips? Quite liked the changes to that car.

Here the updated interior , the only thing that looks different to me is the steering wheel.
It looks nice except for the blank cover for the buttons on the wheel. It looks ugly cause it looks like a different material then the rest of the wheel.

The cool button lay-out on the center console seems to have dissappeared as well...
That's probably the base model, since the current FRS is like that, as is the Premium BRZ. I am liking what appears to be alcantara where there was once cheap faux carbon fiber on the dash, though.

Also, them removing the perforated leather from the grips of the wheels seems...weird.

Why did they have to ruin the front? And I think for the American market, GT-86 name sounds too funky and might steer people away, while BRZ sounds more normal.

The leather itself might be better quality now, the soft stuff you get on premium cars. The perforated stuff was good for grip, but did feel a bit cheap.
