Scottish Independence

Do you support Scotland's independence?

  • Yes

    Votes: 16 45.7%
  • No

    Votes: 10 28.6%
  • Maybe

    Votes: 5 14.3%
  • Don't care

    Votes: 4 11.4%

  • Total voters
    35
Or likely, depending on your perspective.

Either way, I don't think it's going to be a landslide. There will be a very large percentage of unhappy people.

Hmm, I will of course be disappointed if there is a no vote, but I will not be devastated. Because although No may win the vote, Yes have undoubtedly won the campaign. Here is what I said on my facebook profile as the polls closed.

The polls have closed. This campaign has been for me an exhilarating time. But the campaign is over. I have removed my twibbon. unpinned my yes badge. unpeeled the yes sticker from my window. And in the morning I will remove the thing that says "I voted yes" not because I believe with any less passion than I did 5 minutes ago that Scotland should be independent, but because I am now back to being someone who lives in Scotland. However the result goes, I believe we should work together for a better Scotland. Many honest folk in the no campaign have made it clear that they too want change. Let's forget the yes & no & let's unite and try & make our astonishing wee country a better place.

I wonder if the high turnout is a reflection of peoples keenness to vote when a single issue is being polled, especially regarding nationalistic issues. I think people have a much clearer idea of what they want, when it's kept simple (even though they have no idea what specifics they are actually voting for).

we have had two previous similar referenda- although about devolution not independence

in 1979 turnout was 64%

in 1997 it was 60%

So I think it is the magnitude of the issue, not the simplicity of the question that has made the difference (assuming the turnout is as high as expected.

"He has the right to cast his vote like everyone else."

Not living in England, he doesn't.

It's irritating, he found success mainly on the back of living in England and still does, yet wants to break away from the very thing which put him in his £5 million mansion in Surrey. The phrase 'don't bite the hand that feeds you' comes to mind.

YouGov spokesman has told SKy News that now 99% certain that it will be a No vote...

One local polling station in Angus reporting a 100% turnout

Jeremy Vine's punditary :D :D Almost shakespearean in terms of his on stage actions :D

Funny watching the BBC squirming to find stuff to say to kill time before anything happens which we kinda know is hours and hours away! The latest poll put the No vote a few more percent ahead.

Andrew Marr on the vote counting building - "It has the architectural charisma of a cold store in Slough"

Meanwhile on ITV we are being treated to 'foreign' TV  A rare delight indeed! :sly:

I can't get British telly. Is Twitter lying to me or did Huw Edwards really say that these results will come wrapped in batter?

Bloody hell, 90% turnout?! I heard there were odds of 3/1 on >86% turnout.

I did manage to catch some Sky coverage in the pub. Brought to you by the Redundancy Department Of Redundancy:

"So how exactly will this count be decided?"
"Well, we take the number of votes from the 32 council districts and add them up according to whether they are a Yes or No vote. The one with the most wins."

Brilliant.

I am pretty indifferent to celebrity endorsements & cannot imagine changing my vote because of one. But surely he has as much right as David bowie & Eddie izzard or maybe even a bit more? Of course maybe you slagged them off in the same way. Oh & I think you'll find it is quite common for top sportsmen to live outside their own country.

It's also quite common for Sean 'Bahamas' Connery to claim he will not set foot in Scotland until it is an independent country. He said that years ago, though. What guarantee is there that an independent Scotland will be as tax friendly as his cushty Caribbean utopia?

Isn't Alex Salmond's best mate Rupert Murdoch?

Right up until 2 days ago when Darth Murdoch began tweeting about how independence isn't right for Scotland.

He must have been kicking himself when news of UK millionaires' tax-dodging broke in 2012 or thereabouts.

If I'd known JK Rowling supported the No campaign, I'd have moved to Scotland just to vote Yes.

You wouldn't have thought so if you read any of Murdoch's most recent tweets...

The Scottish Sun failed to back the Yes campaign, probably because Murdoch is not happy with the SNP's ideas and with the fact that Yes Scotland comprises the Greens and the Socialists - I get the feeling Murdoch doesn't like socialism much.

Also, Murdoch is now best pals with Boris Johnson, who together officially opened a new building in London for part of Murdoch's media empire just a couple of days ago... good timing or what?

Someone I had long forgotten about began trending on Twitter due to being interviewed on telly about this. John Redwood. That guy can go p**s up a rope, awful humanoid.

Yes he has the right to voice is opinion, but it's irrational opinion to hold seeing as most of his life has been shaped by the union. It's as irrational as when Vivienne Westwood said she hates England, a country which has been integral to building her fashion empire.

Would he have got to where he is living in an independent Scotland? It's doubtful and it seems he still needs to live in England to further his career. Secondly basing his decision purely on the fact that the No campaign bugged him too much is nuts. Thank goodness he is not the leader of a country because that kind of in-depth analysis of a situation to make decisions would start wars!

The BBC blew the years graphics budget in the first 10 minutes. We had a giant oil rig and a submarine virtually appear.

They also seem to have bought new lit furniture just for this night, snazzy table ;)

Are you sure?

About the humanoid part, I mean. He's quite clearly some kind of gecko in an Edgar-suit.

I told the tale of his Canadian-miming of the Welsh National anthem to my wife only a week ago, oddly.

Why is it that we still don't have electronic voting machines in this country? The results would be out in minutes after the close.
