yup. as the car get's used, a memory site adds a counter every so often. the only other difference you'll see is darker paint.
So if I never washed my car, I would go completley black?

Edit: I think I might have found another secret car, except I'm not sure if anyone has discovered this or not. You have to watch the GT2 intro very carefully, since the clip of this car is very short. The car I am talking about is a Volwagen W12. I looked for it on the car list on the GT2 guide but it was not there. Here is a screenshot from that moment in the intro, oh and sorry about the bad quality. I screenshoted this from youtube...

Sorry to disappoint you Craig HP, but the car in your screenshot is not a VW W12. If you look closer you can see that it is the Jaguar XJR15 Race Car (available from the Jaguar dealership in the "Specials" section).

One more thing, I thought the cars in GT2 doesn't go dirty like in GT1? Or it will if you never ever wash it?

Sniffs found a code that renders cars dirty. The game does not have that feature.

And, interesting how they pit a Jaguar XJR15 and an Alfa Romeo 155 Touring Caragainst what looks like a stock Altezza in the video...

CraigHP: again, it simply removes the reflections from the car's shell polygons.
legend-1: if they didn't, why would they include a car wash?
superberkut: depends on your version

I should have stated, I have the Error version GT2 1.0, purchased Christmas eve 1999

Dirty Cars: 801CD05A 0F00
this only covers the first car in your garage. use the scolling feature on the garage menu (for rearranging the car positions) untill you cycle through your entire list.

Shortly after I posted that post I took a look at the picture again and I thought, I am a bloody dunce! :dunce: It was either a Honda NSX or something else!

Thanks for the code, but I can't use it because I don't have a gameshark or an emulator. Sorry if at one point I made it seem like I did!

that's for sukayo, actually. i wanna see if anyone else that still has GT2 can use this on a 1.0 version. should be easily convertible for 1.1 and 1.2 or PAL

To superberkut: I thought so too, but it looks more like a Subaru Legacy Wagon than an Altezza to me.

To Sniffs: That's what I'm trying to say, the car wash feature does something in GT1, but it's totally pointless in GT2, as your cars hardly lose any shine at all (without the codes of course). My disc is also the glitchy version 1.0 NTSC, and I also have the JP version of GT2, the car also doesn't get dirty there. If it does get dirty (without the codes) in your version, then one of our discs is seriously messed up.

Question (a bit stupid, but you never know): does the car wash do anything to your car's performance? maybe if you wash it it will have less drag or something? Same question with the wheel shop (are the aftermarket wheels lighter?).

Ah well, I thought there might be an incremental performance effect. That's why I always wash my car after every race, so it will always have minimum drag :D.

So how about the aftermarket wheels? Are they also cosmetic only?

the appearance in GT2 leads me to believe they're a reskin as well when you get them. the Lancia Ypsilon is one of the vehicles that appears to have a badly centered wheel design. the wheels are not affected by the dirt level, but their size changes with the type of race tires put on. try sticking Racing Hards all around on a little Dihatsu Move...it looks like someone stuffed 20's in those wheel wells.

yup. it's really obvious when you stagger tire sizes. for a funky look, put softs front/hard rear on a front driver!

The top speed could differ based on the evaluation of traction. To verify diameter, you'd want to measure speed versus RPM. Even then, the game might be modelling a constant tire slippage.

Sorry fr digging up old thread, but i read this whole thing and i never saw this here.

I recently downloaded EU intro from youtube, because i just love it and i noticed some odd car at 1:00.

i have no idea what it is,but it strong reminds me mercedes CLK especially when you look at the second pic.

clkgtrintrocopy.jpg

as i said i downloaded it from YT so quality is crappy.Maybe someone who has the HQ intro should watch it and tell what it is?

Good find Mr. Johnnypixel. :) That does, indeed look like the CLK, but i can't say for sure, it's too blurry. But it certainly could be the CLK.

The CLK race car resides in GT2's coding as a hidden car. The only way to get a look at one is with a gameshark, dexdrive, some sort of emulator, etc. Check out this link below. It has the CLk and many other hidden models.

http://www.formulanone.org/gt2/cars/all.htm

I've got a printout with a picture of the CLK GTR (Not that hidden CLK race car mess) in GT2 (early proto screen I believe), but I lack a scanner and the picture was printed by an old B&W laser printer a looooooooong time ago. I probably can't locate it either.

What I don't get is why they would hide cars in the first place.

In some cases, they were hidden because PD modeled them, but didn't get proper authorization to officially put them in the game. In other cases, it's also possible that PD didn't have time to properly finish some of these cars. Again, this goes back to Sony pressuring PD to get GT2 released in time for the christmas '99 season. Perhaps if PD had more time, they would have been able to get even more models into the game.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure it's called Plam Strip. This was supposed to be the drag racing track, which didn't get included in GT2 due to time restraints (supposedly). The Mercedes CLK should be in the game, it's hidden, though; you'll only gain access to it with a gameshark or some other device, but the drag strip? It doesn't exist (despite all the conpiracy buffs who say otherwise). YOu won't find it anywhere.

At www.granturismoforum.com there were some folks with hex editors hacking into the game codes back in 1999/2000 when GT2 was released. They managed to figure out that there were 2 initial productions of GT2...version 1.0 had "october 29, 1999" and version 1.1 (i think) was dated sometime in "November or december 1999". Believe it or not, this caused alot of concern and flaming initially. There were only a handful of folks who had 1.1, and the hundreds who had the glitchier 1.0 version didn't believe the folks who had managed to buy 1.1, even after they posted screenshots of various imrovements found in 1.1 (like the Peugeot in the 2nd Tahiti Maze rally. In 1.0, it crashes into a wall and gets stuck there for the entire race. In 1.1, it finishes the course.)

Holy ****!! I have the v 1.1 Copy just 3 mths ago!!! I lost it moving into a Terrace House!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

A few hidden cars were because licensing deals fell through (hidden Mercedes race car probably), or sponsor names were regional (Exxon versus Esso).

I can understand the sponsor name stuff but surely if licensing fell through it is illegal to add that car, hidden or not.

Arguably you're right, but this also depends on how PD set up their contracts with various automotive companies. There may be language in these contracts that says they could create a car for GT2, but perhaps there is no language saying that if PD doesn't include the car officially in the game, they don't have to delete it from coding. At one point before the game was officially released, perhaps these automotive companies had no issue with such cars appearing in the game, but at a later point, they DID have an issue.

Since these cars are "hidden", and a regular Sony-issued playstation can't extract theese hidden cars in a normal fashion (and gamesharks & emulators are not Sony-recommended devices) there's no pertinent reason for PD to have removed such cars altogether.

In the case of contract law, the affected party needs to decide whether it's worth taking action. There's no magic third-party judge to enforce particular standards before complaints.

Actually, I can think of an argument why all traces of licensing breaches should be removed; there is yet another party involved in many cases. In many cases the auto manufacturer was probably happy to have PD include the car, except they couldn't because they (the auto manufacturer) had made an exclusive deal with another software company. So it would seem in my non-expert opinion that other software company could sue the auto manufacturer, if not PD directly, when hidden versions are found. But likely it would be proven in standard legal terms that no significant damage was done, as Parnelli says, and it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

I notice that a couple of pages ago people were talking about dirty cars, can anyone please get a comparison picture for me? Many thanks.

EDIT: I found a few more pics of the CLK GT-R.

Also, can someone please explain to me why there is a Ford Escort in this demo screenshot?

The cars don't get as "dirty" in gT2 as in other games. They lose like 2% of their shine...that's as dirty as they get. Therefore the carwash barely has to clean them.

Where did you find that screenshot with the Escort on it?
