I was never a subscriber of the Playstation magazine, but I remember reading some when my brother bought them. I still have some of the demo discs from these but I don't know where the actual magazines are nowadays, probably on the attic of my parents house if they haven't thrown them away .

It's kinda weird that they advertised all those missing cars and tracks on that christmas edition while the finished game was already going on sale in Japan and North America. I mean, the official magazine would surely have the latest information available :odd:.

Some magazines release their x-mas magazines some days before x-mas comes round. They could of released this magazine before 11 december 1999, who knows?

Oh boy, I'll feel bad if you don't find anything, because my curiosity made you buy something that may not be useful XD
I will actually feel glad if that happens so we don't have to worry if it happens. I will also have a demo disc too so not all hope will be lost... I also wonder why these people sell Issue 53, do they not know what secrets it contains?

I can't find the certain issue anywhere on the internet :/ It always gives me modern issues.
Yeah, I couldn't find any either, except for a couple for sale on retro game websites. Of course, I don't feel like wasting money just to look at an old article about a game that came out 15 years ago.

I meant that it might have been the name used by PD themselves before the release (for copyright reasons or something like that), since there's no Pikes Peak on the track list but Kaz mentions it in the interview.

Funny thing about the GT2 demo, both Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 5 Rally Cars were racing mods. Yeah, the Ralliart Evo 5 was a racing mod for the Evo 5 RS and the Winfield Evo 5 was a racing mod for the Evo 5 GSR.

Neat. Why were the rally car bodies cut anyway? They could have fit quite nicely, considering some of the 300ZX racing bodies look a lot like the GT500 car that's in the game, and a racing mod for one of the Mustangs that resembles the Saleen Widebody. Oh, and the Nismo GT-R LM Road Car's racing body being the actual race car. And probably more cases of this. And why is the Winfield car hidden? Licensing issues? I doubt it was because of redundancy, considering there are so many mechanically identical GT500 race cars in the game (Yet only two identical GT300s).

Winfield car?

Um, what are you talking about? Both the rally car bodies weren't cut, they became playable rally cars in the final game.

I honestly have no idea why PD bothered hiding the Winfield Lancer Evo V WRC in the disc rather than allowing us players to buy it in the dealership or win it in a race.

My guess is that JGTC teams are all aponsored by japanese companies which are easier for PD to be dealt with license-wise. This is the reason why all JGTC liveries are historically accurate. However, it seems that licensing issues were not so easy to solve with western companies which sponsor WRC or Le Mans competition, so we have quite a few liveries with carmaker's name put instead of some sponsor logos. On the Evo in particular, I think that PD had to choose between not so accurate Winfield car (with rectangles instead of logo) and very precise Puma Super Taikyu racing livery, and they chose accuracy over WRC distinction.

It's come to my attention that there is a new .VOL unpacker that can also unpack the demo VOL files.

You can bet i'll be looking into those to see if there's any secrets hidden in there.
Awesome, hey Xenn. I have a question, I've seen a post where you said the string & hex codes for the Rufs in the GT2 Demos are different from the final. Can I see those codes please, I want to look at the Rufs myself in the demos.

BTW everyone, I have already uploaded 2 videos that show all of the beta cars in the South City & Mazda manufactures. Here they are if you wanna check them out:

It's most likely one of the "bu" lot. Don't include the .cdo parts, that's me being lazy and not removing them :P

I'd like to ask where can I find it?

It's called GT2VolExploder.

Awesome, thanks! This will be helpful for when I make my beta cars video for North City.

Also to add on to what people are saying, I would love to port a few cars too. That's a good project idea actually for GT2; if we can find some way to modify the game data to port the beta content from the Demos to the final game. Maybe one day we'll be able to create are own events as well for GT2 and it can become a mod that I would like to call "Gran Turismo 2: Complete Edition".

So any new finds yet?
Not really, except that when I was recording footage of all of the beta cars; I did find quite a few more cars with differences.

Though, I can report that all of the Ruf Codes Xenn showed me; only one of them showed a beta Ruf body. It was the playable BTR and the color selection isn't really different from the final at all.

Also, here's footage of the beta Toyotas:

Also, if you didn't notice yet; the drivetrain display will change on the screen if a car is playable and has a different drivetrain from the Mustang.

Interesting.
Since you're doing all this, I'd like to see the following cars if possible:
  • Background car (it's said to revolve faster than the other cars) (Car ID: 0x1e041058)
  • [R][R][R]COURSE BG (Car ID: 0x1e0410d8)
  • In general any car that is strange (like the background car) or cars that are the only cars from certain brands.
TCRF (The Cutting Room Floor) claims that these cars (Background car, COURSE BG) exist in demos.

Sure, I suppose I could give those a try. Though, I honestly don't see a point in trying them since they're most likely not much different from the final.

Awesome, but just out of curiosity, can you tell me why the T200 Celicas have such strange looking wheels?
They're not wheels exactly, they're placeholder textures for the wheels. PD for some reason didn't finish the wheels until later on.

EDIT: Here's a screenshot of the beta Course BG in the demo; as I expected, it's really nothing of significance. It's the same basic course BG you see hidden in the final game. It's purpose was just to be a background for the Arcade Mode loading screen.
