@Xenn I saw your codes on your gameshark thread, great find! I'll be giving those cars a try.

Okay, this is something I wanted to learn for a while; the cheat codes for replacing the Mustang in the final GT2's arcade mode. This screenshot from "The cutting room floor" proves that it's possible to replace the Mustang like in the demos to drive different cars. I thought it would be kinda cool to learn this.

EDIT: Interesting, the placeholder car in the 1st demo of GT2 is the Honda Logo. Here's a screenshot of it representing the Plymouth Pronto Spyder.

BTW, I'm also looking through the internet archives for GT2 stuff. I'm checking forum entries from 1999.

I heard that will only cause the game to crash after the starting grid screen, though. :indiff:

What the?! Why?
I mean, I could understand the demos for having this issue with a lot of the cars since they weren't all finished yet, but with the final? That makes no sense. Either way though, I still want to try the codes.

As it turns out. I thought the codes I posted on the cheat device topic was the whole car list for the early demo.

Turns out i'm wrong.

There's a few more entries that I noticed. I'm going to see what these are. These are not loaded into RAM during the demos arcade menu.
That means possible new hidden cars?

Not really a find, but more of a small thing I spotted on the case itself.

They used Demo pictures for the back of the CD case.
The first one shows a Corolla rally car driving on Pikes Peak downhill, with the obvious GRAN TURISMO 2 name on the corner, and the lap counter shows that this picture was taken on time trial in one of the Demos.
Right bellow, there's a picture with a TT driving on a track. Lap counter shows 1/1.
Especially the one with the Elise, it's more than obvious that one of the Shadow bugged tracks (Red Rock Valley Speedway more likely) was used.

Can confirm this on my own copy of the game.

Was always curious why the earlier versions were used on there.

Also should note, the picture with the orange Muscle car (don't really know if it's a Challenger) is probably from an E3 demo, since there's no HUD at all, or even a name display.

Most of these screens we can see in this trailer.

But then that wouldn't make much sense considering Apricot Hill was in GT1.

And I guess we'll never know if it's supposed to be Plam or Palm.

Apricot Hill wasn't in GT1, GT2 is actually the first game it shows up in.

Though yeah, it doesn't make sense on the fact of the name. I'm pretty sure Palm/Plam Strip was meant to be a drag strip for the drag racing mode that was scraped.

Or it could well be an assumtion we've simply had for a long time. Interesting photos them, showing the Palm Strip/Apricot Hill scenario. Throws new light on the situation.

And I am almost certain that it's supposed to be Palm Strip and Plam Strip is an error or a classic bit of Engrish.

Must've accidentally mistaken it for Autumn Ring then. My mistake.

And unless Apricot Ring has something "Palm Strip"-ish, then I'd hazard a guess and say it was just a license test switched around with another, the name Strip just lends itself to drag racing.

That is unless North American Raceway had something to do with drag racing too.

North American Raceway sounds like a speedway to me.
Now I've made assumptions about it being Indi, but I gave it a second though and I though:
What if NAR is in fact a beta name for Red Rock Valley Speedway?
If it isn't, then I'm sure it was some sort of road course. Probably a road course of Indi? Maybe Indi was going to be named North American Speedway?

Well we do know it wouldn't be named Indianapolis or anything like that since it wasn't an exact copy. So it makes sense that it could be named as such, probably have two courses like North American Raceway and Oval.

But if I remember correctly it was just a name and no track connected to it correct?

Correct.
But most of the road tracks (not counting off road) had names assigned to them. Now we have this name (NAR), which only fits for Indi.
I mean, it would only make sense if NAR was a road course for North American Speedway.
