Sebastien Vettel challenge: all gold

The X2010 doesn't have fans/turbines, they eventually went for regular internal combustion with a gearbox, though in the intro videos it still appears to have a turbine, guess they didn't change that :)

It does have a fan, where do you think all that downforce comes from? It's getting sucked to the track by a fan, pretty much like the Chapparal 2J. Hard to miss that big fan on the back of the X2010.. :P

Hmm OK I guess i was getting fans mixed up with turbines :dunce:

I still got the impression the car in the intro video was meant to be turbine driven though, as you don't see the twin exhausts that are on the car you drive. I always liked the idea of a single gear turbine car, shame they changed their minds!

Currently got silvers at Suzuka and Nurburgring with gold at Monza. I can see it taking a while to get the two remaining golds but will keep going as much for the xp if nothing else! Wasn't really looking forward to these challenges after reading what everyone had to say about the X1 but blown away by this car right now. My G25 doesn't agree though and I'm seriously expecting to see smoke coming out of it pretty soon :)

Yeah I remember the initial specs released said it would have a gas turbine engine and cvt transmission. It still has the same power specs though. I wonder why they changed the engine and transmission?

Maybe they thought they couldn't be implemented at that weight or maybe they just couldn't implement it properly into the game?

Don't try active steering.... it makes your wheel shake like mad.
 I think the only worthwhile assists for these challenges are SRF, TCS and ABS. Although, IMO, TCS is only useful when launching from the pits because the car has so much grip once it gets up to any speed (even around the hairpin at Suzuka) that TCS doesn't do much while you're racing. Nice safety net if I do something stupid though, then again if I do something stupid I won't be setting a good time anyways :(

Don't use traction control, it slows you car down.

Managed to gold Suzuka and Nürburgring and is now owner of a Prototype - yihaa.

Suzuka is a pain in the a** - I actually only managed to complete two full laps twice today: 1.10.8xx and 1.09.7xx (think I tried 50 times or so...). Switching to a wheel for this challenge is a must if you want silver and gold, it's impossible with a controller and I am an expert in racing with controller (have done for 13 years now).
It's soo tricky, you can lose it all in almost every corner.

I have to agree with this. Unfortunately, I do not have a wheel. Coffee, this challenge, and a stick controller make a horrible combination.

TCS = 0 ?

Did you change ABS setting as well ?

No.

Skid recovery force = ON
ABS = 1
Everything else = OFF.

Ok thx, im stuck on suzuka its a real pain like you said..

I'll try to turn TC off.

I just change from the bumper view to the hood view and i think its much easier this way.

edit : just made it bronze with in 2 tries

Wit hthe hood view ITS WAYYY easier.

I'm gonna give a try to monza and nurgurgring since I made bronze with tcs at 5.

I have tried Suzuka for nearly 3 hours, and I just can't seem to reach silver. Closest I got was 2:12:450. Shaving off that 1 second just seems ridiculous!

DFGT Wheel
TCS: Off
SR: On
ASM: Off
ABS: 3

Is this set up good enough, or should I adjust something?

After the first turn, try to make the 2 S without breaking, give fast turn with your wheel and you can make it, i just made 0:27 on the first check point.

I usually try get around the turn without braking much, but the car always feels prone to understeer hence why its hard to resist braking

i managed to silver Monza with a DS3 controller before I got my wheel. It took me nearly a week to silver Nurburgring because I was still getting used to my wheel and that Veedol Chicane was responsible for most of my DQs and wasting time.

I managed to get a rough idea on the racing line of Suzuka pretty quickly, but the fact they ask you to do 2 flawless laps, it really is a test of endurance as well as skill.

I don't have GT5 myself yet, but I played a couple of times at a friend's place. I have always been a race enthusiast.

The Vettel Challenge (with a steering wheel obviously) is the most challenging and rewarding part of any racing game I have ever experienced.

At first I couldn't take a single corner. At the Nurburging it took me like 30 mins to reach silver. But Suzuka is obviously much more demanding. After playing like a madman for 2hours I nailed a 2.11.1 which is 1.1s off from gold.
I'm pretty sure I can get gold on all tracks with a bit more practice. It's a matter of focus and learning step by step exactly how to take each corner.

Monza I haven't played myself yet but it is obviously the easiest one to get gold. My friend did it in 30mins and he is not that sick of a driver. You can easily gain a second by cutting the chicanes a bit which makes it easy.

As much as I would like not going off topic a bit, but are the X1's you get from getting all Silver colorable? I'd like to use my Chrome paint chip on it when I get it.

Update: This morning I attempted the Nurburgring challenge and luckily I golded it quite quickly with a 2.07.466. The next challenge was Monza and I golded that within an hour after Nurburgring with a 2.03.263. Haven't done Suzuka much but first and only time I completed the two laps I did a 2.10.7 so will soon have all gold I hope. Taking a break from it now, will drive later on.

After enjoying the X1, I didn't play GT for a day and then went back to my use my stock ZR1 in GT5. It still feels very slow and wrong, like I'm driving slowly through a field. I normally adjust after playing the F1 in GT5P after ten minutes, but after full day and few hours in stock cars I'm thinking I must get back in the X1 with those crazy cornering speeds to feel some satisfaction.

Started doing Suzuka again the last hour and finally got Gold. Anyone get all three Gold in one day? I did :sly: .

Suzuka was starting to annoy me, on the go before getting gold I was already ahead of Gold ghost after spoon curve on second lap. All I had to do is the chicane and I broke too late and went off. Next go I was in a similar situation and saved it on the last chicane and won with a 2.09.7XX . Just happy to have the all black Carbon X1. Anyone get a purple X1, I have it :).

Suzuka is still being a real pain. Especially since I am only a couple 10ths of a second away from Silver. Controlling the X1 at high speed throughout its corners and having a narrow road width, feels like balancing on a tightrope

i agree with the tightrope thing, it's like one wrong split-second decision and you're DQ'd, after awhile it's almost like reaction though, you'll learn how fast you can take certain corners and recognize all of the braking points, i got all golds but Suzuka was definitely the hardest, and even on my gold run i cut the chicane and somehow didn't get DQ'd

I am really annoyed, my latest attempt got me 2:11.582; 0.082 off silver!:banghead:

I used ABS 1 and brake bias set to 10 front and rear. I used a DFGT like yourself. Also if you haven't already tried, you can go through the S-Curve without braking, just balancing the car around corners with throttle and agressive steering and one downshift to 3rd for the final curve. My technique of golding Suzuka was go all out on first lap, and then bring it home on the 2nd lap. The go I got gold in I did 1.05.281 for my first lap, although you can still get gold if you do 1.06.0XX and do a fast second lap. If you try the S-Curve like I mentioned above and master the technique then you should easily get silver unless you already doing the method I used.
