Hmm. Tested all cars that I can use (minus the Lambo) on GP/D last night, and I was only in the 35.3-35.8 range with all of them. After the very encouraging results at Laguna Seca, a 2 second gap to other people's testing results leaves me a bit clueless though. I'm apparently doing something wrong. Guess I should start comparing sector times, although I'm probably losing equal amounts of time in all sectors.

No clear-cut favourite for car selection yet though.

Pole's going to be a 1:32.
Only real advice I can offer is that we're using the very generous GTP WRS boundaries... so rape the chicane.

Follow the grooves to yellowbrick road, when you get there, cut the chicane like a criminal.

If I get some time Friday night I'll post a best lap video for a reference of lines, etc. (Unless someone beats me to the punch)
Basically keep it on the dark strips of rubber around the track and grip it and rip it as much as you can, and make sure to use the chicane boundaries.

For reference:

Aliens unfortunately used the same car in round 1 and round 2, the Lexus LFA. His round 2 ultimately had to be disqualified, and to remove the extra car championship points I/we had to delete his times from Laguna altogether from the board. (a kink in the system yet)

Just something to pitch in, I apologized to Alien that I wasn't around to let him know before the race, but if anyone sees someone in a car they used before, please do tell them. (I haven't heard back yet from Aliens but I'm guessing he thought he was supposed to use the LFA all season)

You do mention that each car can only be used once in the opening sentences in the OP. 💡

Hi all btw. :)
I'm back from vecation, but work (got a new job from Jan 1st) will keep me away from participating in organized series for now.
But I'm sure I get the opportunity to race you guys soon enough. 👍

Good luck all! It seems you've had a good start in this epic series! 👍

So I did a bit of practice this morning with the Lambo and ended up at a 32.4 with about 150 miles on the car + an oil change. The Lambo feels fairly decent around here while maintaining a good balance/rear tire deeper into the stint...but it requires a bit of an aggresive style upon turning in (which leads to a bit of inconsistency atm) to prevent too much understeer at entry (particular in sector 2) from trying to trail in too much on brakes.

Just curious, but were those times on the practice board with fully broken in cars? (if you don't mind me asking). Just trying to get an idea of what will likely be the favorite/fastest car around since I haven't bothered to do any comparison testing between cars.

Hands down, the Lambo crushes all the other cars to the point that there's no point in using any other. Of course, I already used it so I'm hosed this weekend. :irked:

Everything I have on the practice board is with 0-mile cars.
If last week is any indication though they're universally faster with a break in and heavier PL (breaking in the viper gave me over half a second per lap).

And yeah, you're going to want to drive the lambo. It crushes everything else as you can see by the testing I did to put those times on the practice board. I ran 10 laps in every car and the lambo's ability to rape the chicane like a lifer put it way ahead. If we were running 'two-on-the-pavement' they'd be a lot closer, but the AWD just completely owns the last sector due to it handling the kerbs and grass without drama.

Something I hadn't considered has come up, of course.
:dopey:

I qualified in the 458 last week, but didn't race (I hadn't thought of it so IDK if I'm the first), but since it's me, I'd rather ask than just decide, does that count as use of it?

This is the way I see it. The second the time's on the board, the driver has declared the car they intend to use for that particular race, so that effectively locks the choice in.

For example, we've never handed out PP points if the pole car did'nt start the race.
I've always thought that if you did'nt start the race, it does'nt count. Bonus points or car choices - same same to me.

I thought we did allow polesitters to keep the points regardless of whether they started or not. In my mind, with how much effort people put into Q, it would seem wrong to not award them for setting the fastest time if circumstances makes them miss the race. Then again, that's a completely different subject altogether. Going off tangent again. :dunce:

Anyways, I'm still leaning toward saying that "You Q it, you lose it" only because of the unique format that this series is using, but that's just my opinion. :)

I assumed you still have it; no race, no points, no loss IMO.

kind of discourages qualifying if you're 50/50 on whether you'll make the race then. 👎

on that tangent... in the past we've only let people keep the bonus points if they raced but didn't make the completion %.
If you take pole and DNF on lap2 you're still getting your pole bonus... but you have to take the grid to be classified in the results, and you have to be classified in the results to get points. We even delete qualifying times from drivers that do not start. That maintains the integrity of the career stats from a perspective of "average start vs average finish".

We're in the business of having a racing site not a time trial database. ;)

I totally hear you.
But I'd say that's a rule that would probably be needed if this was a WSGTC 3 kind if series with a grand prize with lots of drivers that we "don't know".
But for a series like this, I don't think beeing that strict will nurce the fun-aspect.
No one q, and then decides to not start just to save the car for a later race.
I don't think, anyway..

Whatever's decided, I'm fine with it. After all, I benefited the most by not having Dom start ahead of me last week... well, unless he did and took out Brock by mistake at the first turn.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'm only fighting for second place anyways. We need another alien in here to make this interesting! :P

I think that if you qualify and don't make the race but keep the points, that should count as a car use.

If you qualify and don't make the race, and no points are added, I think you should be able to use the car again.

Just an observation, from someone who hasn't been able to play as much as they like, but still follows the series.

To be honest I assumed that you had to race it to lose it, as a result I q'd the 458 at Spa but couldn't race due to connection issues and then q'd and raced the 458 at Laguna.....

In that case, we've set the precedent by allowing you to race the Italia without even realizing it.

I'm going to race in the WRS enduro this sunday, so I'll have to miss the race. Luckily the best tracks are still to come.;)

Ok, so points have to be earned to constitute car use. 👍

Ok Wes, enjoy the race. 👍

I'll be on sometime tonight to practice.
