Plus you get BMW V8's powering the Aero 8. The +4 and Roadster get Ford engines (the +4 gets a two-litre Zetec engine, the Roadster a 3-litre V6 from a Mondeo) but they still make timeless classics.

If you were a cashed-up car and track-nut and wanted to turn your car into a high-powered, widebody GT car (DTM, Super GT-styles) like that would you just approach the company (in this case, Alpina) with a wad of cash and ask them to build you one too?

It depends on their racing program. Some offer privateering options and sell models to gentleman racers (Porsche does) and others do but only after they've gotten the exposure of racing it themselves.

Either way, the cars and spares are probably sold at the end of the season. Make it known you're interested and you can have yourself one.

They're based off of the Alpina B6 S, which is a modified 6-series. You don't need a VIN in many places for track cars, but it's not like the chassis never had its own. They left the BMW factory with one.

And GT Pro, quickly reading into it, Alpina currently offers the car to anyone.

I actually didn't notice it until you mentioned it. Also, I know nothing about that car, and can't find anything about it just using 'GTX' in Google and Wikipedia.
