More discussing the patch and less about pirating, thanks.

Jailbreaking the PS3 is not piracy (it is in fact legal) and it seems to be the only way to get the patch in question.
I spent over 400 euros on a FAT PS3 and over 800 Euros in racing games for it since then, all of them needed patching (released with bugs) like this one (the best of them if I might add) theres a fix for it but it is not up in EUR and is not available anymore in the USA so Im really beggining to wonder who is the Pirate here...
In other words to me what is ilegal is selling a broken product... or retaining the fix for it when it is already available...

That part notwithstanding, the discussion then took a turn to downloading games from torrents, etc. before they are released.

Moving on...

And I wonder why, -why not globally !

It's four days since it was released in the States !

Actually patch 1.02 wasn't ever released by SMS or Sony. It was found on a flash drive in Osama Bin Laden's room by US Navy Seals...so naturally they released it to Americans only! Microsoft is a US based company so they got it too, and rolled it out globally because in their eyes they already rule the world anyway.

If you wanted 1.02 in Europe your spec ops guys should've been hunting Bin Laden.

This stuff is so obvious, I can't belive I have to explain it to you!

aaaah, the plot thickens...
Maybe the whole psn downage was just a charade to lure osama out of his basement!

So why no patch in europe?

I would say that it is due to the PSN being down. SCEA only has one country to consider, whilst SCEE has many.

Each patch needs to be approved by sony before going live. I'm just guessing here, but with the PSN problems SCEE has quite a lot more work to do then SCEA in regards to security checks and the like. Big Ant Studios was complaining on the whirlpool forums about hold ups in regards to patching their AFL live game through SCEE, stating that SCEE had a few weeks worth of backlogs to complete.

Again just an opinion.

But we did get patch 1.01 in Europe when the USA did...

Which could have been submitted before the fiasco, as Ian Bell said here, the approval process takes a few weeks. Again, I'm just putting pieces together and coming up with a conclusion that sounds reasonable to me.

I just hope they get it together soon, and Shift 2 has been shelved for me since 1.01.

The reason its been released in the US and not Europe is because (as we all know) Americans can't drive and need as much help as possible. No but seriously Americans can't drive:)

Some people that can't drive here in the states, aren't even from here. We are also the most diverse culture there is so we have a mix of everybody here. Your statement is pure ignorance. I have no idea where your from and quite frankly I can care less but I wouldn't dare flame anyone's country out of ignorance.

carefull yank your feeding the monkeys

I think most if not all developers don't rely on PSN for their updates. I recently got Killzone 3 and it updated. And that's a Sony game.
EA runs their updates from their own servers too as the 1.01 update was available when PSN was already down.

No they don't, but the patches and anything installed on a PS3 needs to be approved by sony. This approval process usually takes a week or so, but since the PSN is down, and sony have their hands full (especially SCEE) there is a backlog.

This may be what is holding up the EU patch.

I've just downloaded the new patch and have to say the lag is worse (PS3) than before, I thought they were fixing it with the patch?

I expect this - or something like this - to be the case.

Working for a big multinational business myself, I consider it highly improbable that the patch is being held back as part of a Sony-conspiracy to give GT5 an unfair advantage over competing racing games. That is simply not how this world works - and as said before: Sony have other things to worry about now than the success of a relatively insignificant racing title on their platform.
