I'm pretty much done with GT5, at least for right now. I decided to start a new file in GT3 and I was really excited to start again and seeing the intro made me pumped. This was because I knew I was in for a something that would be very enjoyable for a long time. I really wish I could say the same for GT5. Sure, GT5 may have better physics, graphics, and other things, but for me, it's missing the most important ingridient: fun. All the previous games beat GT5 when it comes to this. And unlike GT5, I won't feel the need to cheat or use exploits in GT 1-4 because they actually had great game progression. The gameplay made sense and was designed well. GT5 has too many issues where common sense wasn't used.

I'll still play GT5 for WRS, but that's pretty much it. Until I see more seasonal events, GT Drivers Club, and other features that still aren't in, that's all I'm using GT5 for.

I completely stopped played over a month ago. My favorite car is the Corvette and there is no fun in playing a game where the race version of the Corvette sounds like a blender. Oh and no more races to complete either/ not going to grind it out because some moron in japan thought it was a good idea.

For me...this Real GRINDING simulator is nothing more than a "Virtual Car Collection Game," aside from the endurance races, I haven't completed the Formula Gran Turismo in Extreme in both A-Spec and B-spec...I'm not good at driving extremely fast cars like F1 and I'm not gonna leave my PS3 turned on for 24 hours co'z I don't want to have YLOD again...

Broken racing mechanics (proven in recent GT Academy Round 2 cancellation), merciless AI and no mechanical damage in GT Life (except practice mode) hurts the game in a big way for me...

What I do right now for about 2 weeks is turn on my PS3 in the morning and duplicate a car and....that's it, on to another game (oh yes! Killzone 3 beta!)....

Anyway I like to share this to you...if you guys still have car ticket coupon (I still got the Ticket 1000 car coupon), send it from your duplicate account to your primary account every day and possibly get awesome prize car!

So far the most awesome prize car I got from that ticket is a GT by Citroen Race Car :D..then 2 Super GT cars, 1 NASCAR, Murcielago LP640, and some standard racing cars...

x2 GT5 was all lip service imho as a game it fails I won that bugatti after my first day playing it and it all went downhill from there what happened to the restrictions

Feeble minds need simple tasks. However knowing that Strong minded veteran GT racers will pick cars that match the competition or somewhat close to get a race out it. They set it up so it can go to either end of the spectrum.

Make sense?

You know this is a prize car.....one from Extreme events in B-spec, guess you didn't elude to the entire truth about your progress. hahahahaha

You have to really tie an arm to your back to do so. or rather, both arms and a leg. And even then, the biggest challenge is dodging the oh so early braking of the AI so you can actually somehow get past all of them in time.

Really, stomping them in the corners and letting them overtake on every single straight because of the vastly superior cars they're using isn't racing. It's hotlapping with moving obstacles.

And, personally, I suppose PD knew this. That's why the AI is getting superior cars if you set them to 'Professional' difficulty in Arcade Mode.

I have started playing f1 2010 again because gt5 is just boring now... i mean the grinding is really really bad, but the playability has just dwindled for me since i got a DFGT (obviously the wheel was designed for Gran Turismo) however it does not seem to work very well on gran turismo ironcially...

On f1 2010 its spot on however, the amount of wheel settings you can edit is just right.... on gran turismo you cant edit anything apart from the FF strength..... pure stupidity and ignorance from polyphony but... good work by codemasters (LOL) crazy.

/\ That reminds me, I will grab the F1 2010 game today. Wanted to try it, just keep forgetting about it.

FWIW, I found my way into league racing online. Have gotten my best racing experience ever in gaming from this. CLEAN Drivers, very very good competition.

Truly if you are passionate about racing then try the online leagues.

I also agree with Luminis to an extent. The other thing to this is tires. If you are on racing tires and the comp is on Sport of course the AI will seem like they brake early, it will also be why you can beat them through corners. .

Tyres or not, they still brake early. Some cars, like the Mine's BNR34, for example, come on soft sport tyres. Put it on hard sport tyres, and I'm still braking a lot later than the AI.

To put this into perspective: With the Mine's, while stock, I'm laping the 'Ring at ~7:09, without actually trying or pushing the car.
With the Cuscu Dunlop Subaru Impreza, I'm getting ~7:15 on a decent lap. Again, the car's stock.

Now, if I'm using the Impreza in Arcade Mode, the Mine's isn't exactly the fastest car on the grid, as it's usually beaten pretty badly by the Amuse GT1.
I'm still lapping at least 10 seconds faster than the AI - and that's with traffic. So the AI's getting ~7:35, with a car that is easily capable of doing sub 7 minutes lap times.

I mean, how much more of an advantage do you need to give the AI? They easily pull away on every straight as is.
I could, of course, use the same soft sport tyres as the AI, to make the car even slower to make it challenging. But, dunno, there's a point where it just becomes challenging, but stops being a race. Most importantly, it becomes frustrating to somehow maneuver past vastly superior cars that crawl through every corner, effectively slowing me down by 10+ seconds a lap.

I just have not been able to get into this game at all. The standard cars pretty much killed the game for me especially since I run the inside view. After all it is a simulation view and the only way to truly simulate the experience is to drive with an interior view. So I usually just end up going back to the other sim racer that includes interior view in all the cars. I wouldnt say I stopped but I hardly started. Just such a huge disappointment.

Pretty much the only thing I do on this game now is run hot laps, usually around the ring. I've completed all of A-Spec bar the last three endurance races and all special events so there is nothing left for me to do now. B-Spec isn't something to do and I've no interest in grinding for no reward. I'm just going to save up to 10 million, buy the F2010 for hotlapping and that'll be it I'd imagine unless they come out with some big updates to give me something else to do.

I've stopped completely for now. Engine sounds are really a big part of the immersion factor for me and that along with a few other gripes and I just couldn't stand it any more. So I went back to Forza 3. If only I had a wheel compatible with it.

The only thing keeping me playing is online private races with friends.

Vettel Challenge- Too Hard with DS3
Endurance Races- Can't save midrace
B-Spec- Too Boring, Too Long, Lame AI
A-Spec- Tiresome Game Progression, Lame AI

Trust me, I have plenty of time in on GT5, 60 Gold for licenses, 31a/21b Level- the fun has run out, save running with my friends online.

I've all but stopped playing. I saw the X2010 available and saved the 20mil for it only to find that I had to be level 40 to buy it. REAL big letdown there. I had the credits. And to level to 40 when I'm a spec 30 and b spec 28, I can see that would take ages of grinding. Its beyond stupid.

I'm still playing but I've pretty much done everything in A-spec already that I plan to do (surely not doing 4+ hour races) and running laps is getting kind of boring. Also, for the first time in a GT series I have no desire to gold the licenses.
Once TDU2 comes out I can't see myself putting GT5 back into rotation. There's just not much fun stuff to do in this sad shell of a beta game.

Yeah, I've stopped. I have all the GT games and GT5 is by far the worst of all GT's. I picked up Forza 3 thinking I'd play both games, but Forza is infinitely more fun the GT5, so it's hard to play GT5 again...especially when I hear the engine sounds.

I agree, I never really got into GT5. I'm a little shocked because I was so excited leading up to release and had been hanging out for it for years. Now I do the odd lap of the Nordschleife but the rest of the game just failed to deliver.

I will always keep GT5 purely to lap the Nordschleife, but I will definitely be picking up FM4 and I'm very excited for F1 2011 and the new NASCAR game (and WRC 2011 if Black Bean actually made any money off WRC 2010 and can afford to make another one)

I had gold in all a-spec up to the 9 hour Tsukuba race, was level 29 in b-spec, gold in all licenses, a garage of about 350+ cars...and got the YLOD and lost it all.

Needless to say, the motivation to go back and do it all over again isn't really there. F1 2010 has gotten all my time recently since at least that save file wasn't tied to my old system.

I'm level 32 B spec and 29 A spec and I play 3+ hours a night at least 4-5 nights a week online. I've managed to find a group of people online who race fair and clean and it's been a blast. A spec has gotten put on the backburner, at this point I'm not sure if or when I'll get back to it, just too tedious. I'm just at the point where all the races are long and you've got to set aside time for them and there's just no point. The competition isn't compelling enough and I can't see myself choosing to race the AI over live opponents. B spec generates plenty of credits for me. Just waiting on this b spec from anywhere so I can stack more money and start tuning all the cars waiting for me in the garage. Overall, have to say I'm disappointed with Aspec.

I have pretty much stopped playing it. I am level 31 A spec and level 30 B spec. There is simply nothing left to do in the game besides super long endurance races.

I have tried going online but most of the rooms are people trading cars, NASCAR. or drag racing hondas. When I actually do find a room the host usually takes 20 mins to start the race only to have everyone pile up in the first corner and crash. Also I get random disconnects all the time when I am online with GT5. It can't be my connection because every other PS3 online game works perfectly as well as iRacing and GTR2 on my computer.

Basically this game feels like it should have came out when the PS3 launched. IF it did I wouldn't have a problem with it, but almost six years to make and this is what we get? just silly.

I decided to try out iRacing and I will probably play that instead of GT5 unless they decide to do some kind of major update.

I still have lots to do in GT5.

-I still haven't finished the Grand Tour and I've barely done the Rally events yet.
-I wanna get all gold in the Vettel and Nurburgring challenges.
-I still have 4 license tests I didn't get gold in
-There are a couple of Formula GT races I didn't win
-I plan on doing all the endurance races except the 9 hour and 24 hour ones.

After I finish all that I plan on racing online, making my own endurance races in arcade mode, and collecting/driving cars. I'm at level 33 and thanks to car duping and the seasonal events I haven't done any grinding whatsoever. :) I'm really enjoying this game despite its problems. Its a shame it turns so many people off.

GT5 has many failings but I will never understand how:-

A. Some only played GT5 for a week or two then gave up given you will open up so little of the game in that time period.

B. How anyone could prefare a previous GT given the inferior physics, lack of online, lack of newer cars and substantially inferior graphics and sound.

I get the feeling those obsessed with single player, levels, seasonal events, challenges etc. are missing the point of GT5 and driving sims, it's all about driving cars online.

However, you'll find possibly the #1 gripe of those that DID play GT4 is the 400 fewer A-Spec events. An offline feature. And if GT5's whole POINT is just online driving, why an offline component AT ALL?

More attention was payed to B-Spec than A-Spec and online combined. It's a GAME. It used to be a driving game. Now it's Pokemon with wheels (gotta dupe 'em all!)...

Online is still a mess (see an earlier post of mine) in many ways. Apparently, even PD don't get what YOU think this game should be all about!

I haven't played it today and tommorrow will probably be the same and from thursday i will have tdu2 so i will probably only play it when the seasonals come back on. But other than that im done with i love driving my ferrari 458 italia but not so much to do rome course 300 times to get level 32 for the 4 hour then another stint at the euro cup for another 200 times this game is tedious and boring once you hit level 30

How is Arcade Mode any challenge with the stupid slow AI? And Endurance races at that, which only emphasizes their weakness? Racing the AI means getting passed on every straight and passing them on every corner. You seen real racing like that anywhere on the planet?

And there are those that neither grind NOR dupe. Essentially, you HAVE to use one exploit or the other to progress. I get a bad taste in my mouth from either... If there were 400 new A-Spec events (that used ALL the tracks and all the cars), neither of these exploits would be necessary. I hate to be forced to cheat!

And online is a bewildering maze of lobbies ranging from the sublime to the insane. With most being the latter. There are just TOO many cars, too many upgrade options, and no way to remove something you've added, to make online anything more than an exercise in frustration finding something competitive that you just so happen to have the right car and setup. Then Shuffle Mode, which might pass for a Spec Series, is cobbled to be JUST POS daily drivers with crappy tires, when it could easily be so much more.

You find exactly the right lobby, and have exactly the right car, and it be populated with good drivers that drive clean (because the game STILL doesn't catch all the exploits - see GT Academy for that!), and then yes, MAYBE you've found the game's one redeeming feature.

But Jeez.... that's pretty slim pickings for an entire game!

I've played solid for two and a half months, got to b-spec 40 and a-spec 32, the lack of events are the major problem. I've got other games to play now (lbp2, dead space 2, tdu 2), I will be eager to see what the update provides as I believe it could make if break the game for me (leaderboards please).

The GT games, essentially, have always been about getting the most powerful, souped up, AI-outclassing car, and then just hotlapping your way ahead of them, grinding through race series after race series like a mindless automaton. Being frustrated with the nature of the offline components of GT5 is being frustrated with every GT game ever released.

I do agree though that times have changed, and the fundamental weakness of GT5 has been the designers' inability to abandon the basic gameplay elements and progression that are still the same as GT1.

Online racing needs a "quick race" matchmaking feature, for sure, but overall I am impressed with the PC-class online racing lobby system. For the consoles, the My Lounge and Open Lobby, with the ability to join at any time, spectate, etc is done very well for consoles.

Online could have been so much more limited, you have no idea. Look at F1 2010; it's like playing a PS2 game online after coming back from GT5.

See my sig...

400 missing events is what is MAKING everyone either grind or dupe. I certainly don't remember GT4 having anywhere NEAR the need to grind that GT5 is at quite an early level.

400 more events solves almost everything... and better AI solves the rest.

But don't get me started about online!

Why oh why did PD drop being able to downtune your car. One upgrade too many for any lobby, and you either got to BUY another car of the same model, and upgrade it to JUST below where you are now, or you have to miss out on the race. Why was the PP system dropped? Why was downtuning dropped?

Because having FUN is not part of Kaz's game...
