So......what are Sony and Yamauchi waiting for?

I must be the only person who would rather get new versions with minor improvements more often than wait years and years to get a new version that has a massive improvement :P
You would get even more criticism of PD being stagnant and resting on it's laurels. Frankly, while the wait for GT5 has been grueling, I've had plenty to keep me happy in the meantime. And if GT5 is as magnificent as we suspect, it's going to be well worth the wait.

Yeah, well I'm not one of the people complaining that its being stagnant though ;) I'm the sort of person that wants to come home, sit down for a couple of hours and play the best possible racing simulator that's available. Not too interested if its made a massive leap since the previous one, nor do I really care if its massively better than the competition. For that, releasing more often is better, as I know I'm playing the best of what's available instead of playing the best game for a year then waiting 4 years for the next one!

This is quite a long thread, so forgive me for not reading it all and that someone has already posted what I'm about to do. :)

it's at a point we can release it any time we want
For me this means that all development is done, or rather, PD is done puting everything into the game they decided to do. And also, all the major known bugs are solved. Maybe a few minor ones remain, but their chance of occurance is either very small, or the impact for the player is very small (or both). With GT Mobile being done too, the development team has time to spare (maybe even bored). :dopey:

So this leaves them time for puting in some extra content, content they hadn't thought of yet (hence their visit to the Forza stand at the E3 for inspiration) or content they just hadn't scoped yet for GT5, but intended to give us anyway as DLC or in GT6+.

It all depends on Sony's release plans for GT5 and the impact any additional content has on development and testing. Quick wins with low risk can be put in. Quick, low risk, wins could be finding additional ingame sponsors (track sponsor boards, car stickers etc.), track enhancements (more detail such as oil drums, cars, debris or anything else that is not animated), music, skies and skylines, etc.

I can't think of any higher risk content, simply because it is unknown what they have already put in. If PD goes for additional high risk content, than it will still have to be something that can be made within a few months, anything taking more time will be plain silly. Enough is enough.

Just a few thoughts.

Imho, there is only one thing determining the release date at this point, marketplace. Sony undoubtedly has a crack team of market analysts that have their fingers hovering over the GO button and the game won't launch until they say so, even if Kaz (probably) wants to release it now. (and sorry if that's already been said, 240 posts is a lot to read.) ;)

Apply for a University that does Formula SAE, its awesome! I've spent far too many all nighters on our FSAE car, leading up to competition I only slept every 2nd night for about 2 weeks, but I dont regret joining in the slightest. An Engineering degree will teach you a bunch of maths and physics and the tools you need to analyse and design things... FSAE actually teaches you REAL engineering, how to build a car in the space of 1 year to compete against other teams. ;)

EDIT: Also, our FSAE team is awesome because we actually build our car ourselves. Many universities just design it then outsource the actual fabrication. We actually do the fabrication ourselves, so I've learnt how to use a mill, lathe, TIG welding and a lot of other stuff which most people going through University never learn or get to experience.

Oh, and I reckon I could design a car that would beat a Veyron around most tracks with only 150 to 200hp, but I just thought I'd cover myself by saying half the power ;)

I think you'll find that car is called the Caterham 7 Superlight R500.

I'm really hoping this game turns up in the next three months and if it doesn't I'd like a GT5P update with come cars and a least one more track as an apology for a game I'm sure is finished and ready to release now.

I'm sorry, but the whole "just a trailer" with no info and a "we can release whenever we want" is insulting. GT5P came out a year ago, F off and release the game if its finished. This whole "marketplace" right time is garbage, as many people can play buy than 1 game...and I'm not going not buy gt5p if something comes out on the 360, like wtf are you kidding me? who comes up with this *****? oh sorry, xbox released a game that I don't even own a console for so I'm not going to buy GT5. lame, very lame.

So, the concept of maximizing sales means nothing to you? Or do you honestly believe that there aren't even more sales at Christmastime?

As has been said numerous times, at least by me, and probably by Foolkiller as well, Kazunori isn't the publisher. He can't make the game come out when he wants to. He's not the president of SONY. He has little or no power in the say of this. If you want to rant, go to Playstation.com and enter a complaint message. They read them. I got a reply back within just a few days when I did.

But I might add that, for everyone's edification, I made a post in the News thread...

Well KY does have power in Sony, he is the Senior Vice President of SCEI. Obviously he doesn't sit there dictating whats going to happen but he has a big say in it.

I think people are looking too deep into KY's words, I think they probably have pretty much finished what they need but have a marketing strategy we don't know about very well yet, that includes magazine exclusives etc. They knew E3 was going to be a little crowded with info releases so they probably are holding off the news until it blows over a little, while throwing GT PSP into the media battle and a short GT5 teaser so you know it is looming.

While that's true, he's just one voice on a board. I'm not sure a president at SONY could override the board, let alone a vice president. From his past interviews, he's been clear that GT5 was his priority, and GT Mobile would come after. I'm not sure it could be any plainer from this that he's just one voice at the company, no matter how much clout he has. I am wondering though if he isn't laying out lures to get us to demand GT5 as soon as possible. If nothing else, he's doing some free advertising/hyping to keep awareness of GT5 on everyone's radar.

I've not read this entire thread but is it common knowledge yet that GT5 on the PSP is to be released on the 1st October?

Yes, October 1st US and EU (which includes Australia, New Zealand etc) and October 8th Japan

I hear a rumor that with GT5 KY is making a new attempt at a world record for the number of Skylines in a video game. :P

My guess is that they're also working more on utilizing experience gained during the development of GTM to make the code as efficient as possible and squeeze even more juice out of the PS3.

there's a guy on youtube who's pretty sure that it will be released in may/june of NEXT YEAR (...) because PD obtained the nascar license not long ago and that delayed the game.
Can you believe that? I don't.

PD didnt leave us behind. They GAVE us GTHD almost instantly after the release of the PS3. Then a while after that they released GT5 Prologue for the ones who wanted to see more deeply into the future of Gran Turismo. Even though we haven't seen a full game yet PD has offered many hours of awesome gameplay, online and offline.

I know. I've posted this a few times, but in spite of having a nice selection of racing sims on PC, I keep coming back to Prologue because it's so close in terms of physics and miles ahead in visceral immersion. As much as people complain about Prologue being old, it really is a gift to us. And really pushed a certain developer to make a "definitive" racing game without equal, which you wouldn't have to bribe fans with free game cars to support.

This wouldn't surprise me at all...

I can see 24 car races on GT6 or maybe even GT5 depending on how well they do on this...

But my estimation is that the work on GT:M will help them streamline their processing wastage by around 50%... Hence 24 cars...

there's a guy on youtube
I stopped reading at this point. Nothing against you, but its's a guy on You Tube.

The only differences between a guy on You Tube and me posting something here is that I would have a bigger audience and I would be held accountable for violating the AUP. So actually, if I gave info then it would be more likely to be more valid as I would have to have it backed up by proof.

oh, ok.....here's the guy anyway http://www.youtube.com/user/castravetele
I just asked him to share and prove this rumor to the gtplanet community, we'll see...

I followed the link and I don't see what you are talking about.
just to show who said that the game will be delayed to may/june of next year because of the nascar license
of course I dont believe him

if released earlier, people can still buy it at christmas?!? omg. if anything, they lose sales because people stop caring.

If you believe what a web site says, we will have 100 days of GT5 releases.

Maybe each website is going to ship at their individually specified date? ;)

If so, i'm rather pleased with ShopTo's optimistic 25/09/2009 :D

Actually, scratch that, i'm making my own website and we're shipping on 12/06/2009, so, if you'd like to place your orders either today or tomorrow, that'll be fine - expect the game at the weekend :P
