So......what are Sony and Yamauchi waiting for?

if released earlier, people can still buy it at christmas?!? omg. if anything, they lose sales because people stop caring.
More goes into it than just total sales of a game. The Christmas quarter is used by much of the retail and entertainment industry as an indicator of market conditions. By having launch and Christmas in the same quarter it helps raise their stock. If they launch in a different quarter then they lose a large chunk of sales that could help boost their most important quarter. It also helps their launch month reporting as kids that can't normally run out and buy a $60+ game at launch will likely get it at Christmas. Add into this that the Christmas quarter is also the last quarter for many companies to get any increase in sales for their annual reports and they really want to take advantage of the Christmas sales period.

And if people still care after 5 years, I highly doubt they will stop caring with a few more months added on to that.

By the way, is your Shift key broken?

All the signs now point to a 2009 release, and amar's post becomes more credible. If it's basically done now, in June, do you think PD will need another half year to finish the last touches? (regarding a December release).

I don't really get the delay and Kaz's point that he wants to be satisfied with it before he releases it. Did being satisfied with the product actually include the NASCAR and WRC liscensing? Then we might as well wait for Kaz to snag an F1 license or a GP2 license.

The delay is terrible enough as it is. In the end, it boils down to what fans would be satisfied with, not Kaz. Who among you guys would rather they came out with a GT5 last year with just better physics, added cars and tracks, period? I'd personally go with better AI period. If they did this a year ago, Fans would still be looking forward to GT6 for their consoles. But the delay itself borders on a newer system release as it is.

Damage, NASCAR and WRC could wait. In fact, they can come as separate games. They SHOULD. How do we incorporate WRC and NASCAR style seasons to GT5? Will GT5 include all NASCAR tracks, or WRC locations?

I don't know where you got the idea that there are constant "delays".. It doesnt count as a delay unless theyve given you a release date and theyve prostponed that release date. Theyve done neither of that so stop whining. They are just making the game not delaying it, for all we know they coulda got those licenses 2 years ago, just because they are on the latest trailer doesn't mean they got it the day before and likewise just because you saw damage on the trailer doesnt mean they JUST started it.

The wait is so long, I agree. I can now say I'd be upset if this game is shipped next year, even if it's January 1st. It is about time for them to release this game. Prologue could have waited so that GT5 would be here probably late last year or by early 2009. Don't get me started on the PSP GO GT. Hopefully in these 4.5 years they have at least added some unique manufactures (Lamborghini and Porsche, Maserati and Bugatti). I am confident that the game will deliver, but yes, we have some legitimate reasons to be acting like 7 year old boys with A.D.H.D.:scared:

But they have yet to give us a release date. LOL, you cannot credit a person or company for being punctual and on-time if they do not give a set time for a product. If I say to you I will build you a new home and do not give you a somewhat accurate date for its completion, I'm sure after 1 year of silence you'd say " WHAT'S THE DELAY?! After 4.5 years I could still go say "But I didn't give you a date of completion.""

Exactly. If someone tells you I can deliver your pizza anytime you want, but doesn't give it to you in a day, the natural question would be "What's the delay?". But of course, in all technicality, killanite is right. They never mentioned a "delay". But check out the interviews with Kaz before and you don't get dates. Just "sooner than expected." Well one interview was on october 29th 2008 and he "laughed at the notion of a 2010 release date for Gran Turismo 5, and said it will be released sooner than expected." If it was October 2008, sooner than expected should be within a year in everyone's standards. So I give him up to October 2009. :sly:

Yea, that '08 interview in which he laughs at a 2010 release is sort of....I don't know, comical in itself. I am not saying it will be released in 2010, but the fact that it's still a good possibility makes that interview sort of baseless. But I do like your idea of October of this year. In that case his interview holds true and he can be believed in future projects. Otherwise, we'll be the ones laughing and crying at a 2010 release date! :(

I hate to agree with you, but what else can we do? :D

With a Gran Turismo of this magnitude, with all that's been revealed in Prologue, with all the mystery surrounding just what goodies, features, and sheer joy this game will encompass, it really is the most exasperating experience many of us have ever had. And it's really sad that the politics of rivalry between SONY and a certain software company are the main culprit for this. If not for the fact that Turn 10 has ripped off virtually everything about Gran Turismo, and then been derogatory towards Polyphony, SONY, and us as GT fans, I'm sure Kazunori would have been a little more open by now. We wouldn't know all that much, because a huge part of unwrapping a present is the surprise. But we wouldn't feel so much like mushrooms or prisoners in a dungeon. Sadly, it's going to be a while longer, but hopefully not too much longer.

So, in the spirit of Dan Greenawalt, I'd like to say to Microsoft and the fine folk at Turn 10,

"Guess how many fingers I'm holding up." :mischievous:

Are you starting to believe in a 2009 release date?

Is that a fact? We might not know anything, but for all we know GT5 is perfectly on track for a 2009 release and Kaz has known it since that interview. Which would mean the interview is completely valid and your fact isn't a fact at all.

Like I said in my post, I am not confirming nor denying a 2010 release, but it still remains a possibility as there is still no release date. You know what I mean? It might be proven true very soon that '09 is the year of Gran Turismo 5, but as far as we are concerned, it could be '09 or 2010.:ill: I favor '09, though, no doubt!

it is most likely 09, if he says that it is sooner than expected, and everyone thought it was going to be in the first part of 2010, it is the end of 2009.

by the way, how long will we have to wait for 6 prologue?

Just to say quickly, I saw the video posted by GTPlanet's YouTube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/GTPlanet ) about Gran Turismo PSP. They could release GT5 whenever they like, but I'm sure they don't want this game to be half-assed. I know there's downloadable content and stuff like that, but I'm old-school. Make a game as complete as possible and as great as possible, THEN worry about added cars and such.

What are they waiting for? To me, it's about as complete of a game before getting downloadable content and such.

imo it will be announced at TGS and released between dec 10-15

I think 7 months of "polishing" is enough...:sly:

No, he didn't laugh at a 2010 release per se, he laughed off a release in 2 years. At the time of the interview it was late 2008 (october from memory) which would mean he laughed off a late 2010 release.

I dont know why but im starting to look at the coment "we could probably release it at any time" in a negative way rather than a positive one.
Sony and PD had to give us something about release date in E3, but as PD wanted more time to work in the game, what were their options? Would they say "we are still working on the game"? No, thats the true but people would be disapointed for not geting any specific info, so they tried to find a more friendly/positive way to say the exact same thing. So, they came with this: It could probably be released any time but theres allways work we could do. This way peolple/press would calm down for a while and just wait. And in September/October they could give us a 1st Quarter 2010 release and say we are just 3 months away from entering the 1st quarter.
I hope im wrong.

Yeah, I'm starting to believe that more and more with each passing day. Of course, this is Gran Turismo we're talking about, so a delay almost seems to be a tradition. :sly:

But this time, it seems like Kaz is wanting to try and break all kinds of unwritten rules with GT5. Despite the crazy revelation we got with Prologue, there have been no releases of screengrabs, videos, car and track lists, features and options... anything. Instead, we get surprises out of the blue. Little teasers which drive us crazy. But I think more than anything, they're intended to drive Microsoft crazy, which to me is a lot of fun. It's hilarious to see Dan Greenawalt panting at a camera as if a gun is to his head and raising his voice to strange levels to emphasize how Forza 3 is THE DEFINITIVE RACER OF THIS GENERATION with THE MOST CARS AND TRACKS OF ANY RACING GAME and THE BEST GRAPHICS IN GAMING PERIOD. Desperate much. Seems like they know something is coming.

exactly, i agree with what was said above. any of you see the mercedes s-class crash test footage where mercedes said that the car would stop itself but didnt? its exactly like that. microsoft is equivalent to mercedes and they say "look at me, i have the best game ever..." but then sony comes out of nowhere unexpectedly and makes them crash. i dont know if that makes any sense.

Um yeah I have no idea what you were trying to say.

No, they don't. The release date is between the developer and the publisher (PD & Sony) but with PD being an in-house developer for Sony, it will make the relationship even closer. PD & Sony will know exactly what release dates were, and only those two. None have been made public.

They'd be unlikely to have a release date from the off. On a game of this magnitude they'd have various development dates, with a review based on the progress of each date. These would probably be quarterly or bi-annually. We have a rough estimate of end of 09/beginning of 2010. They probably only just about know the date for the master to be sent to the publisher, which would probably be a month/6 weeks before public release.

To be Honest, im pretty sure it will come by December `09, i just dont know why, but i feel it`ll be released this year.

BTW, its kinda Fun seeing Dan Greenwalt talking about Forza 3, he looks kinda mad/annoyed about polyphony xD
