I didn't want to look like an idiot, but how much money do we get to tune? Is it what we have left over or what

So thats how you link to a particular post! I've been looking all over on this site how to do that. Thanks GrumpEone!

Your Welcome.

Just right-click on the underlined post # (top right of the post), and click on "copy link location", that will put the link address on your clipboard. Then when you compose a message, highlight the text or image code you want to make link to the post, and then click the
createlink.gif
button, and paste the address into the window that pops-up and hit "OK". Now you have a click-able link to that post.

So are we starting yet, or what? It's already Sunday somewhere in the world. :)

1st Circuit

Welcome to the 1st Circuit and the opening of the Sunday Cup. It looks like an exciting grid for this first season. The 1st Circuit is centered around tracks that are less then 1 mile in length. As you can see there is some travel involved and a variety of courses, four in all. Your cars are still pretty much stock but this is where things start to change. Trophies will be awarded for each race (but not graphically like a championship round). These awards will be noted on the league roster as well as with your points scored.

So gentlemen to your cars and Start your Engines! Let the Sunday Cup begin!

EDIT: (conversion put here to keep the thread as clean as possible)
Those darn bots got me on the Beginner course, one of them got right beside me and gave me a love tap right into the grass. Ah the joys of racing one of the others tracks I spun out but recovered fairly well. I even won one vs the bots on Motorland.

I had the same problem at Motorland, kept getting pinned between two bots, sapping acceleration while the two were fighting to regain their line, I had no way out except braking, then going around them.

But on the Beginner Course I got help twice, by a slight boost of speed by getting rear-ended by the bots.

Edit II:
The resulting 5% power boost was very welcome, helping me to place first in all four races!

You must have missed my 0'59.744 thanks to a couple bot pushes @ the beginner course, so I still have one 1st left. But the FR's scare me, I thought of going with the RX-7 but was beaten to it, so I went with Mirage, and shortly after I regret the choice.

After receiving my weekly bonus, it was time for the first upgrade - a racing chip was installed for the tidy sum of 1,000 cr.

Code:
Change Balance Description
============================
	  6,500 Opening balance
- 5,673	= 827 Car Purchase
- 50	= 777 Oil change
+ 600 = 1,377 Week 1 bonus
[B]- 1,000 = 377 Racing Chip[/B]

The resulting 5% power boost was very welcome, helping me to place first in all four races!

Final! I don't know about the others, but I drove mine Saturday, wrote them down. It took all of 20 minutes, one pass, it took more time to navigate the GT4 menus then to race.

Well lets say that I've done a bit more than one run for each, and I've also had everyone else's time's to aim for, so I feel bad submitting times that are just fractionally in front of others given that I knew their times, especially if they aren't given the opportunity to re-beat mine.

I doubt your the only one. This week's is more of a trial run/test to see if we can just post like normal, or do it all by "PM" like the championship rounds will be. So far its leaning to the "PM".

We could stop things like that and keep the posting if I say collected everyones mileage on their car every week. But I'm not that anal about it.

That's the bad part is being the first one's to post, then everyone else has the ability to retry until they beat the times. I did 2 runs at the Beginner's Course and Motorland. I did 3 runs at the other two. I really thought I would be the first to post times, but Dogbreath got his times in, while I was running/posting and I never saw his post until I submitted mine, or I probably would have run a couple more times.

PM's may be the best route, so everyone has an even playing field after this week. As far as the mileage post, there is nothing wrong with running practice laps (or is there?) to get a feel for your car, I know I have already ran laps at SSR5 and Seattle since I posted my times, to get a better feel for the cornering aspects of the car.

I'm going to do them all in one attempt, in the spirit of the competition. If I crash or offcourse I'm going to report a DNF.

I'll jump on that bandwagon and do the same, starting with the next round of competition. Maybe that should be the rule, 1 shot to set your time, no matter what happens. As far as the DNF, as long as your not trying to take short-cuts through the grass, the off-course run into the grass or dirt will not improve your times, and pretty much secure your time near the bottom. But I guess these are rule tweaks, up to BH-21 to enact, I'm on board with whatever the host decides.

I'll admit I spent an hour or so until I was satisfied that my laps were both fast and clean. I then posted the times before considering what times had already been posted.

I know that I could make up a few tenths on all of the tracks, but it would not be worth the effort, and would be against the spirit now that I have target times to aim for.

PM's probably are the way to go, but I'm not so sure about only one run. I see no problem with practise laps, and would suggest perhaps allowing three runs, and just submitting the fastest of the three. However, It is BH-21's show and I'll go with whatever he decides.

Edit:

You must have missed my 0'59.744 thanks to a couple bot pushes @ the beginner course, so I still have one 1st left. But the FR's scare me, I thought of going with the RX-7 but was beaten to it, so I went with Mirage, and shortly after I regret the choice.

I was refering to placing first against the AI cars in my races - not the fastest submitted times - I had not even checked anyone elses times before submitting mine.

I had hoped that by posting 4 or more times at once would prevent the usual human nature to remember only one of the times and then have some sembalance of spontenaity. I keep forgetting that we race cars in a game with lots of adjustments, therefore we tend to be the types that write stuff down or keep a web page up for reference. So yeah after this round which is where all the kinks as it were are to be worked out, its going to be by "PM" only. The first round also had to be done open to make sure everyone has the process down.

As for running practice laps, I've done that to and its why a mileage thing isn't very practical. I like the DNF thing that dogbreath suggested, but I can't enforce that, remember this is for enjoyment not punishment and you get out of it, what you put into it. If you want to really play up the amatuer side of this racing league that will certainly be encouraged, its one reason we have a media side to this.

As for going off the track just keep this in mind if you did it by accident or action of a bot car its understandable and acceptable, if its done on purpose to get time advantage its not allowed. Something that might really make you a DNF though is hitting the end of the pit row wall that often sticks out on a few tracks. The bot can force you into those sometimes, you could recover but your time will rather bad after that.

The other thing needing to be discussed is how is the difficulty setting on the Bots doing so far?

I think that may be why we posted times via PM last summer when I ran those online races. We had to send a PM to the organizer (Super Shouden) by Sunday. We had no idea how well anybody else did and stuff.

I personally would just try to do the best I could, restarting the race only if there was some major calamity which obviously put me behind. But sometimes I said 🤬 it, let whatever happen fly. Some of those races were so long, you see. Starting them over would literally take up an entire afternoon.

Best of three seems better, gives you the opportunity to scratch out a really bad time, 1st try on that track with that car. Or like in my case, my controller's left analog on occasion, likes to track to the right, which has killed some good laps at the benchmark challenges.

The other thing needing to be discussed is how is the difficulty setting on the Bots doing so far?

So far not too bad, although I finished 1st on all but one, none of them were a runaway. And I liked using drafting techniques to improve my lap time, but by the same token the bots also blocked my line a few times, and one just smacked into me while the bot was trying to recover from the dirt, and the not so nice, two bots ganging up on me and pinning me side-by-side at Motorland adding probably 5 seconds to my time before I could get out and go around.

But as more upgrades are bought, or new cars are purchased the difficulty should increase, to keep the traffic up with the drivers. Maybe it should increase every championship or every 2 rounds.

Ok in the spirit of competition I'll redo my times (not that I've posted them yet) using the best time from my next three attempts at each track. In the future I'll probably do free run laps until I know the track, then do the family cup's using a best of three runs method. That seems a pretty fair compromise.

Bots so far are ok, I won my "practice" races fairly easily once I knew how they behaved, the fact that my car was close to, if not the fastest on the straights, meant I pretty easily (RWD vs mainly FWD helps) carved em up through the corners. I think GrumpEone has a good idea, up the difficulty one notch every second round. (or even 2 notches every 3rd)

Again all food for thought for BH-21, I'm happy to go with whatever.

Best of three works for me. Just keep in mind that as the tracks get longer, the longer its going to take to do that. We have at least 4 weeks of tracks 2 to 4 miles in length.

So no one has any objection to a difficulty 1 bot next week in the championship round. The bot in the family cup doesn't respond to modded cars, it tries to match horsepower and uping the difficulty will put newer cars out there with similar horsepower.

Ok here are my times for this week using the method described in my post no:82.

Using my as yet stock Mazda MX-5 '89 (bar an oil change), I managed to post the following 2 lap combined times for the following circuits. The Mazda was at home on these tight twisty tracks, which don't have to many long straights, allowing it to post times competitive with the more powerful cars in the field.
First place for all races, A bit of AI contact occurred to get there, but nothing that would be considered unfair. (replays saved)

Now that I know what I'm doing with this borrowed capture card;

Autumn Ring (13.8Mb)
Beginners Course (7.5Mb)
Motegi West (9.3Mb)
Motorland (12.8Mb)

All laps 100% contact free.

Hopefully Skython11 can get his times in before Sunday Morning and a DNF for the week. All points and prizes are on hold till then.

Oh woops, I completely forgot about this

I'm feeling a bit slow, I haven't fired up the car in a long time, I've been doing other things, so a change from RWD to FWD, and being absent of lightweight gutless cars was scary... But fun
I went with no tuning, no changes, it may be a bad call :scared:

Beginner course: 1.02.949
Autumn Ring Mini: 1.39.697
Motorland: 1.47.000 (no jokes, I actually got exactly 1.47)
Twin Ring Motegi: 1.46.605

At Autumn Ring I had fun. I passed the leading Mazda on the final turn of lap 2, same thing at Twin Ring, great fun

Thanks Skython11, if you are feeling literary feel free to post an interview or something in Parenlli Bones Sunday Cup Magazine.
