I must ask for the uninitiated. So whats the partnership between DTM and SuperGT mean? These new cars, are they allowed to participate in DTM and DTM cars vice versa? Not forgetting the planned American series. I'm just a tad confused as to whats going to happen.

Plus that Lexus is teh sex.

Basically, from 2014 the two series will share this:

They will retain unique engine regulations however, and a few other things will be altered between the series. The idea is to encourage new manufacturers into the two series by using one identical base on an equal playing field. They are also hopeful that it will encourage manufacturer crossovers between DTM and Super GT.

Maybe I am a stickler for the old times. I would love to see racing how it was before. RB26, vs 2JZ vs 4G63 etc etc instead of v8s nearly across the board. Seems all the same with all race series today. I love a v8 but whem the cars comes with a v6 in real life it should be the same in the race series.

That's almost exactly why I stopped caring about the series soon after the change to SuperGT. Some of the best, most varied racing in the world, with somewhat close ties to the production cars (to the point of teams needing to be extremely creative to get performance but still be similar to them) and very close races most of the time.

And now it's yet another spec series.

I don't think the 2JZ raced, did it? I always thought the Supra's were powered by 3SGTE engines and later the UZ V8's.

Jav
Man sounds like poop compared to the HSV-010...
:-/

Honestly, every engine even before in Super GT just sounds mute in comparison to the NA V8 in the HSV-010

Correct. 👍

I'd like to comment on the remark made how the new Lexus didn't look aerodynamically improved over the old SC430:

lolwut?

It couldn't look any sleeker.

I'm happy he BRZ won in Suzuka. I'm looking forward to getting some track time with that bad boy.

Maybe the VTEC haven't kicked in, yo!... Sorry, i just had to bring it up, Jav.
But, yeah... what to do, Jav? :(
As for me, i'm just looking forward to the next season.

I doubt any team will, all cars will be painted in sponsor colours, but the Eneos colours (Nippon Oil) aren't too far off and should look good.

Scary blowout for Epson. Side by side with Nismo and MOLA was fun, but it was always going to be a Lexus win at Fuji.

Curious, as I haven't seen any mention of this, but will Super GT utilise the DRS from next season, as in DTM?

GTA-approved DRS will be legal, yes, but the details we don't know.
I am happy to correct myself: DRS won't be implemented next year in Super GT (from Japanese Autosport magazine, reported by "Japanese Samurai" on the ten-tenths forum). I'm not sure if the original report was wrong or mistranslated or simply if the GTA changed their mind, but it's good news in any case.

Just a small heads up that the Autopolis round happens parallel to the F1 race this weekend. I'll be having the laptop on top of my lap (:dunce:) and watch both.

Well done to #38 ZENT Cerumo SC430, 2013 GT500 Champions, and also the #16 Team Infinite Mugen CR-Z for clinching GT300. It was a great race to finish the season, close racing as usual, and Keihin Real just 2 points off the championship. Slightly annoyed at Ralph getting taken out by the WedsSport Bandoh car, hard hit against the wall:

And just to recap on this year, a great bit of ridiculousness from Sugo:

They don't look as bad as I thought. Please don't let this turn into DTM though :nervous:.

The problem of any series with high downforce cars is that racing turns stale. It happens in F1 and DTM, thus they try to implement rules and technologies to create artificial passing. Super GT has another advantage even with its high DF. Having the GT300 on track parallel to the GT500 creates traffic, due to this SuperGT will always seem more exciting since the quick cars are forced to compromise their line. They can't always take the ideal race line. The race length also plays in favor of SGT.

Another example how multi class adds excitement is WEC, I doubt it would be anywhere near as exciting if all you'd see on track were many Toyotas chasing Audis. The slower LMP2 and GTE create many exciting situations.

The teams and drivers are far better in Super GT, the drivers are way more aggressive than in DTM and the teams come up with some amazing strategies.

I doubt they are "more aggressive". DTM is a Sprint series, SGT an endurance. If you looked at the last DTM qualifications, all drivers are getting the limits out of the cars and only few hundredths of a second split the top drivers. It is because everyone is on this limit that passing possibilities diminish and aggression seems low. Some strategy calls in the 2013 DTM were horrible thought, there i must agree.

Don't get me wrong, I watch SuperGT with great excitement and to me it was the best racing I've watched in 2013 along with GT3s. But the performance and consistency of DTM drivers is also quite a feat, even if it turns racing stale.
