His posting made me asking this question. Hereward, tell us more :).

If you're on a lobby while there's a race going on, there's the possibility of seeing in real time a diagram of the track with the different cars represented by coloured dots moving.

Now that we know about the Jaag, what other cars are a handful?

And post up your favorite cars to use and why please;)

Hey Mario, does the fact that you are a Morgan fan and your car of choice in V8SS is the Jaaag reveal a fixation for all things Retro British?? Joanna Lumley and the Purdey hairstyle eh? Nudge nudge, wink wink!

Actually, after coming from the one make racing in SCC, having to pick a car throws up the question as to which one is the best to choose to be competitive in. So with this is mind I conducted a bit of an experiment last night to see how the cars compare. I concentrated on one track (Mugello again) and did a Time Attack with each of the 11 types of car available and the results were interesting.

I know Hereward mentioned previously that there were no uber cars and that they were all fairly evenly matched but while the top 7 cars were only just over half a second apart there was a pretty wide gap of 2.1 seconds between the first and last placed cars. There was a fairly clear winner (the 550i) which was 3 tenths ahead of the field and, on the other hand, three cars were extremely close and were only seperated by 7 thousanths of a second! The E92 M3 and the Chrysler 300C produced exactly the same laptime with the Merc C63 just the 7 thousanths behind.

From what I can see, unlike SCC, if you post a laptime in time attack on single player it will not appear on the leaderboard so I took a note of the fastest lap in each car as follows:

1. BMW 550i - 1'49.276
2. BMW E90 M3 - 1'49.576 (+0.300)
=3. BMW E92 M3 - 1'49.592 (+0.316)
=3. Chrysler 300C - 1'49.592 (+0.316)
5. Mercedes C63 -1'49.599 (+0.323)
6. BMW M5 - 1'49.776 (+0.500)
7. Jaaaaag - 1'49.959 (0.683)
8. Audi RS4 - 1'50.626 (+1.350)
9. Cadillac CST V - 1'50.759 (+1.483)
10. Chevrolet CR8 - 1'50.876 (+1.600)
11. Maserati - 1'51.376 (+2.100)

Of course, we have to bear in mind that this is just one track and some cars may perform better at Mugello than others which may be stronger on a different track. Over time I'll try to go through the same process on each of the other tracks and see if we can reveal the best car for each track.

The final thing to say is that this is, of course, my own personal findings based on my ability and driving style so someone else may come up with completely different results. For instance that Bounder Mario with his tweed jacket and leather driving gloves might power his Jaaaaag to the top of his own personal leaderboard!! :)

Nice list turnupdaheat. but more on that in a little bit

OK when in the lobby, at the bottom you'll see a button to press to see "race details" this only apears if your in the lobby and the race is underway. This opens up a new screen, on the left is a map of the track with coloured dots represnting players moving round it, on the right you'll see all the players names, the top 3 have specific colours which corospond with there dot colour on the map, this list also shows each players current race position and fastest lap......

Right cars.........as you will notice each car has a specific feel, some are better in corners while others are better on the straights.......thus a twisty track favours the nimble cars and long straight tracks favour the big lumbering powerhouses. so each track will give you different time results. Also you have driving style, certain cars will suit certain driving styles, and lastly tyres........button V's hamilton here, certain cars eat tyres......over a full race this will see there lap times tumble towards the end as they struggle. overall though the best car ultimatly is the one that best suits you, keep it consistant and smooth to look after the tyres and even a nible car can have a dig at the lumbering powerhouses come the end of a race at monza. I haven't seen any particular car being favoured for a performance advantage and neither have I seen a car which I feel is out of balance with the rest.
If we look at the Jaaag raceDunST left us for dead though we were all in the same car on a track we all knew.......so ultimatly find a car or cars you feel your quickest in and that is the best car as far as your concerned, you wont be at any disadvantage over a full race.
You will however notice a difference in fastest race lap times, some cars will give you 2 blisteringly quick laps, quicker than the rest of the cars if driven in anger but there following 3 laps will be much slower than the rest of the field due to tyre wear. Deep? oh yeah, will it take you a while to find your fastest cars, oh yes. what will help though is peoples impresions of each car, but only as a rough guide.

M5.......Good alrounderbit of grunt down the straights but still tidy in the corners, dosn't eat tyres so comes good towards the end of the race leans towards understeer

Merc.....Not as much grunt as the M5 but quicker in the corners again good on tyres, tends to be a little tail end happy

Jaaaag...a beast on the straights, a handful in the corners, eats tyres unless handled with kid cloves

Maseratti..very docile, very good on tyres, dosn't excell at anything but is a consistant machine favours understeer

E91M3......very very nimble in the turns, lacks grunt on the straight, can be very harsh on tyres if your not caerful, balanced feel in the corners

Right theres the ones I've tried a few times but my opinion may not be the same as yours, if we get some more people giving there opinions we can build up a picture of the common traits of certain cars, this would be a good rough guide, ultimatly though you'll need to eventualy try them all yourself as there is quite a difference between cars on the limit.

I agree mate, all i would say is that i wouldnt base my decision on the stats the game has is all,

It doesnt take into account that some cars, such as the 550i are REALLY REALLY REALLY good on the brakes.

Hereward will tell you i am normally last of the late brakers, but his 550i is braking a good way after my Mercedes.

I suppose at the end of the day its about picking the car that suits your driving style, or if your my mrs, Shout i like that one its a pretty colour :( :(

Like i said earlier the Audi doesnt seem very fast, you forget that as its 4wd you can keep your foot in and on earlier.

Big thanks to heat though for the in depth research. Cheers mate.

Say - No - Moooaar!

Nice work Derek, I'm not surprised by the bottom placement of the Quattroporte, but I am with the placement of the Morbidelli car (M3 E92), the Audi and the Jaaagg :D

And I'll tell you why. I watched in person the 2009 race of that series here at Portimão and the Maserati (newly arrived to the series) was then the biggest, loudest and ... slowest car of the field. I don't know if things are different now but that's how it was.

The Jaaag was almost as slow as the Maserati so it's surprising to see him so competitive in your personal leaderboard.

And then there was the midfield, full of 5-series and older M3 cars.

And up front - uncatchable by all others - only two guys. Morbidelli in his new M3, and ... the portuguese wild card for the Portimão race, Filipe Albuquerque in Morbidelli's 2008 car (sole Audi on the grid, btw) , all red and without sponsorship because it was the car that the organization gave to wild cards (I was very surprised to see it in the game, and with Filipe's name no less). I think Filipe's pace with that car was very impressive and was highly praised by the regular drivers, but of course this was his "Home" race so maybe he did better than the car and that's why I had the impression that the Audi should be better.

M5 not the 550i Jizzy......you saw enough of it LOL

Yes the M5 is good on the brakes but it's braking is seriously effected by worn tyres, more so than some of the other cars I've driven in the game.

The Audi if you remember was the fastest car in the first game. not really driven it in anger in the current game but I'll try and give it a whirl in the wet tonight.

There's no doubt that a hot lap situation doesn't necessarily give you an indication as to how the cars will perform in longer runs and how tyre wear will affect them. The Jag feels the loosest of the cars here but it does go like stink when you have it under control and by contrast the Maserati felt quite stable and it didn't feel as slow as the laptime would indicate. Interestingly, Hereward mentions that the Maser favours understeer but I thought it was quite pointy, turns in well and tended towards oversteer if I pushed to much to soon.

I too thought the Audi would be quicker but I initially struggled to get up to the pace with it and to me it seems to feel heavy and underpowered compared to the other cars. I did two seperate stints with it because after the first run I was a fair bit slower than I felt it should be and once I started taking more liberties with the throttle than I could with the rear wheel drive cars I made a significant improvement but it was still a long way off the 550i.

hmm I found the masaratti understeered a wee bit when pushed into a corner....I'll put that down to driving styles. It is a nice car to drive though, very stable, but as you say it just dosnt have the grunt of alot of the other cars. has anyone tried the little chrysler? I've raced against it a few times and it seems to be a good performer.

The crysler, the Mercedes(with other names,no lincence for them back then)and the M5 were the fastest on the first game(i think most of the top times then were made with these cars), the Audi was the easiest to handle.Still not enought time on this one to tell which one is faster in this last release, but for the races we did yesterday the AMG seems to be the one but currently i'm trying to relearn the breaking points in the 550i which seems to be more stable...some tracks are very different-Vallelunga(now in scc version)Kyalamy,Imola is new for me.

Yeah, the Chrysler is a good yoke to go. Plenty of grunt and it doesn't feel as bulky as it looks! I was surprised to find it as quick as the M3 and Merc.

It's size does cause a problem though. I always use the cockpit view and it is easily the hardest car to see out of and can it be difficult to accuratly hit apexes etc. I found myelf like a kid behind the wheel actually stretching my neck to try and see more over the bonnet!

popped in the disc and drove for 2 hours straight. Got all the licenses on A and S and since I drive with controller it took some time to figure out which config to use. I changed steering to d-pad and gas/brake to good old X/[]

I really like the variation of tracks, the elevation and the gorgeous background on the Portugese Track. My favorite car just has to be the Quatroporte, really like the looks and the drive. It's not the fastest but really it is just lovely.

After the Drivingschool I jumped into a couple of Online races, I did see some of you guys and there are some really fast ones going around. Me, I'll always be in the Maaaseratiiiii, you'll find me at the back ;)

The graphics are something I really like too, especially wet conditions is impressive. Blackbean and Milestone made a hell of an enjoyable game!

This game, next to FF13 will be the discs that stay in my PS3.

Read this thread this morning and it inspired me to go buy it.
Only played it for 30mins or so but I like it so far
I started with quick race 3 laps starting from the back (19th) on medium difficulty. Realism full, No TCS or SCS, ABS on, Auto gears. No idea where the track went. Finished 11th, an eventful race.
So then I tried the first 3 driving school tests and got A,S,A. I didn't want to progress any further as I have a mate coming round tonight and I'll let him use them to get a feel for it (He can't do GT5 on pro:crazy:) rather than plonk him online in the deep end.
Speaking of which online looks to be very good I've only had two online races so far and by pure coincidence they where both with GTP_Stalker 👍 who blew me away by 15 secs in the first race:bowdown: and, I think, maybe waited for me in the 2nd 👍👍
I'm using a G25 and the main problem (for me) is the lack of rear view mirror in hood cam view, or an easy to reach button because until I learn the tracks more that's the only view I can handle.
I get a feeling that may be the biggest problem - not knowing the car behind has got a better exit from the previous bend and powered up alongside you..
But so far so good 👍

I wish it was the case that I was just waiting for you but I'd cooked my tyres and was parked in the gravel trap in that second race.
I couldn't believe I'd bumped into a fellow GTP'er on only my second race online. We certainly get about don't we? :-)

My mate came round whilst I was playing so I had to abandon online play. On the plus side, I think after a few goes, he's gonna go out tomorrow and buy a copy himself.

Cheers for the video pino-r really enjoyed watching it. I was quite impressed with how the in game races mirror the real ones, especialy those online. Seems the lap times are slower in the real race by a good few seconds but that could be down partly to end of season weight penalties and also with the race being run in winter at 9am as the comentator noted the very low track tempretures.
The representation of the cars in game are very good as I could easily spot the different drivers and cars from that video also. Lastly the in car footage was very close to what you see in game, looking in particular the wheel movement, take away the camera shake (camera fixed to vehilcle shakes more than the drivers eyes, take note Shift) and it's a good representation of the in car view. Oh and finaly the places the cars were overtaking and how they were seting up the car in front were as they are in game, gave me a few more ideas for overtaking at monza LOL Oh yeah first corner mayhem.....it s not just the game that has it LOL

Again cheers for the video pino-r, well worth sitting through it all guys, theres lots of stuff you can learn from it, especialy about setting up overtaking opertunitys at the parabolica!

Edit...as usual.
I only got chance to do 1 and a half races last night (PMT Related LOL) but in the first race we had a guy quit out halfway through, Myself and Jizzy looked for his car on the following lap and sure enough it had rolled to a halt at the back of the gravel trap against the armco and stayed there for the rest of the race. Oh and if your in an online race and you know you'll be laging behind the race leaders and in effect on your own, shout up and we'll stick the AI on for you at whatever level you want just so you have someone to race with while you get upto speed with the game. :)

is any of you guys racing tonight?

My small timeattack effort this morning on Imola and Adria

Car: Maserati Quattroporte
Setup: Qualifying
Track: Imola
Time: 1.43.758

Car: Maserati Quattroporte
Setup: Qualifying
Track: Adria
Time: 1.16.719

Btw I like the replay "free camera" choice (one after tvcam), gives one quite a lot of freedom watching cars battle in front, at the back and with you.

ive been playing this game for a week now and i find it average at best. after playing supercar challenge this game feels numb in terms of car feedback. most of the bad points have been posted here so i wont go on about it.
and lets face it if gt5 was out this game would not get a look in .

I have had a problem :ouch:
every time that I try to enter the menu' setting cars my ps3 goes to crash :guilty:I am forced to reset
I have discovered that happens only if I use the steering(use the dfp)this doesn't happen if I use the pad.
the deadzone with the dfp not and' exaggerated, all it takes is getting used,I think that the g25 has more' problems of deadzone in comparison to the dfp or dfgt .

unfortunately and' also happened in time attack online :if I go to the menu' setting cars the ps3 goes to crash,if instead I go to fast competition (without regulation setting cars) nothing doesn't happen.
another Italian boy my friend has the same problem with the g25,has none of you had this problem?

I hope resolves the problem and' very frustrating for me :guilty:

Nope, not had this issue, I'll try and recreate it on my PS3 to see whats happening.

Blown540ci......the name sounds expensive LOL Anyway, cheers for the feedback I can finaly get a name on that damn list LOL

hi all :) seeing as i liked the first one, i've taken the
plunge on Amazon and ordered this next chapter

hoping to join you online middle of next week :D 👍

Hi Paul, if you liked the first then this is a HUGE improvement over that! I think basicly the first was put out too early, whilst the new title is basicly the finished article. Enjoy

Odd that PC review, he gave it between 79%-85% for all the aspects, graphics, sound, gameplay, ect ect but then gave it 77% overall? His PC calculator playing up LOL

As for the tearing on the 360? I can confidently say that isn't an issue on the PS3.

7-8/10 is what I'd expect, the game is specialised for petrol heads and looking at the majority of gamers this game wouldn't apeal to them. It compares favourabley with it's piers review wise. But didn't Grid get 9/10? say no more.....no really say no more (and yes some people love grid)

The Sixth axis seem to be the biggest of the web sites to have reviewed this game for the PS3....ok there the only one to review it for the PS3, and thats a week after release. Anyone know anyone at any of the big sites to bug into reviewing this game? 7/10 and some favourable coments about the handleing and AI would certainly go a long way to seeing this title being spotted by the vast majority out there who either don't know what it is or have simply ignored it because of a lack of reviews advertising and it's first aperance. Can you imagine if one of the uber companys, say EA had marketed this game? .....in fact no thats a bad idea, we'd be tripping over 12 yearold mad max's on the track everytime we went online! LOL

I kinda like the fact this game is still a bit unknown for the very reason you state. Everyone I've raced with online(ok, so I've only done a handful of races so far online) seem to be very clean fair drivers.

The fact that it wasn't even on the shelf but behind the counter only at GAME says a lot. Most people don't even know it's out unless they keep an eye on the forums. The fact that IGN or Gamespot haven't reviewed it certainly helps keep this game in the shadows.

Is this what we can say is an uderground game? it's that good WE don't want the public to know about it! it's only mention is in long lost dank corners of driving forums where the enlightend nod knowingly at each other and where only security coded online races are held for fear of "norms" finding a good race.

Even here on GTP, the title of this thread is
Superstars V8 Next Challenge in Q1 2010
So as people who wander into the dusty "console and PC gaming" section from the bright lights of the GT5 section don't even know it's out yet LOL

Right guys it's decided, one of the best racers on the PS3 is ours, no one else must know, don't utter a word to anyone! I'll sort out the super secret handshake later guys, if you must refere to it outside the "sacred circle" use the word JaaaaG in a cadish nature as it's name! I must stress, anyone found spreading the word will suffer "the removal of the gaming thumb fate" so don't....alright!

High lord chancellor of the bretheren of JaaaG

Owen "one thumb" Evans

^^LOL'd at that.

I'm gonna have to try the JaaaG. Only used the Beemer and the Merc so far. Think I'll have to trick the missus into going to bed early tonight so I can jump online with you guys later.:sly:

I must admit I haven't paid this game much attention, I played the original Superstars V8, and felt like it was missing far too much for it to be a good or even average game. One of my major gripes was that it lacked a interior view, however it sounds like they've fixed all that for this one and sorted out the car licensing too and hopefully other issues too. I'm going to give it another go just to see what it's like. Hopefully it will be good this time 👍

Speedster, unfortunatly this "title" is now deemed underground, you may not purchase a copy unless you swear the solem oath, at which point you will be granted the secret handshake instructions that you must greet the member of staff at game before receiving your copy from behind the counter......Without this handshake you will simply be greeted with a blank look upon enquirey! Before I can get you to swear the solem oath in front of the bretheren you must have a second (sponsor) among the bretheren......will anyone here second brother speedster?

Yes it's getting silly and may possibley get me a warrning from the admin but it's amusing me LOL
