only a few people can use the app. How does this make you feel?

  • It makes me feel cheated. PD should make the app available for everyone.

  • I have an iPad, it works for me, so meh. I don't care about the whiners.

  • I guess I feel sad about it, I really wanted to try it.

  • Looks like I'm getting a tablet..

  • All this time I was hyped for this feature. Now I'm unsure anout my future and Gran Turismo.

  • ??? What do you mean not all of us can use the app?

  • I'll just emu it when it works. I really don't care that much.

  • Meh!

  • If it comes to other devices, I'll be really glad. I want to use my smartphone and/or PC.

With the .apk on a Note 3 (phone) I am beginning to create a track just to see if it works on my phone. So far I have a straight into a right hand turn.

So as long as you have a newer smartphone it may work for you.

Of course, if it worked on the Play Station that would be ideal.

Now, if I could record a GPS record on my phone of where I've been I could drive down the center of the local track and convert that to a track! ;)

I just installed BlueStack to try it and it worked perfectly for me. I just needed to map a couple of key to be able to zoom in and out.

Downloaded the APK and it works perfectly fine on a 2nd gen Moto X phone. I Was able to make a track, upload and test drive it easily , Font is quite small though, a magnifying glass would be helpful.

Actually, plenty of people understand that fact. Do you understand why people say it isn't an excuse anyway?
Yeah, cause people don't like having things not exactly how they want them. I wont make the argument that the PS3 couldn't handle the CM, and I wont argue that PD should have made it on the PS3, I've actually stated just those points in previous posts on this thread. However, I doubt that it could have been ran in game. I am willing to bet they wanted to do it in game originally, but the overhead, or lack of, killed it, so they took it off the PS3 completely. Which might not seem to make sense now, but, when GT7 is released, I bet the CM for that will look or operate extremely similar. Since GT6 is pretty much at EOL, it makes sense to make the CM easily adaptable to the next game as opposed to built specifically for GT6. Even more so since GT6 is also the last time they will be programming a game in the PS3's language. And no, I think a few people get it, and no one else cares. they want what they want the way they want it.
I think PD dropped the ball left, right and center. Took too long, didnt communicate, stupid device restrictions that we found work arounds for anyway. But I do not fault them for what they did deliver and the fact that it is off the PS3, in the long run, that does make sense. As I said before. PD and GT are not for those that need instant gratification.

Dunno what is all that fuzz about, since .apk version runs on just about anything (PC included).

But I guess it is easier to endlessly ++++ and +++++ , than do some reading how to overcome "tablets" only problem in a minute.

but...but...but...

Can we change the thread title? It seems most people are reading that alone and taking wrong information from it.

It isn't wrong, though: PD has intentionally limited the app to tablets only. That is the official line.

While it works on other hardware thanks to clever workarounds, that doesn't change what PD has stated. You wouldn't really say Gran Turismo 1 is a PS1/PSP/PC/Mac game just because emulators exist for those platforms, would you?

@Tornado @Imari @SlipZtrEm and any others who may have quoted me.

It's all supposition why they went the route they did, including what I said. I will say the companion app made the most sense and it stood to reason you'd need more screen real estate compared to a smartphone for ease of use. But...

Could you tell us where is the statut of the course maker and why this feature need much time to development ?
Kazunori : It's still in progress, but it takes us more work than expected

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...-or-gilles-vidal.329774/page-10#post-10772501

Now why would such a simple app be so difficult to integrate into the game itself? Kaz said himself that they were constantly having to juggle, cut or compromise on the features that they wanted in it? Surely a nice big TV would have been the ideal solution and knowing the hardware like they do, they should have been able to do it. If they could.

The console's OS uses 50mb of the 256mb available (http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/23/70mb-of-additional-ram-unlocked-for-ps3-developers/) and we all know the game pushed the console to it's limit in the first place:

“A lot of different things were cut: resolution, graphic designs, everything throughout the gameplay. The level of data that’s being handled, whether it be the environment data or the car data, they’re on a fantastically high level – but the PS3 isn’t able to process it very well.

Honestly speaking, the PS3 was really, really hard to develop on. There was just not enough memory in the hardware. We always had to fight with the amount of memory that we had available.”

I understand that, I'm not asking OP to say PC and mobile is officially supported, just say that they are an option because quite a few people haven't got the memo.

"only a few people can use the app" Citation needed? Tablets are really popular and it makes perfect sense to use a large touch screen for this app, although I can see a mouse working out just fine from what i've played of the app so far.

Tablets are extremely popular so I expect most people can make use of CM.

Those that don't own a tablet, time to buy! I have an iPad Air, it's a beautiful thing.

Exactly, you can get a tablet that can run this thing for around $70 - $120 on Ebay. I have a Nexus 7, 2nd Gen model, it runs the latest version of Android since Google is the creator of the device, and it works perfectly with the creator. The amount of hyperbole and exaggerations on this forum over the track creator are more entertaining though.

"I don't have a tablet, guess that means no one has one as well, what was the point in this track creator??? *kicks dirt*"

Are you really suggesting spending that sort of money to gain access to a nearly two-year-delayed feature that up until release had never been described as requiring anything other than a PS3 is acceptable?

I'm glad there's free workarounds, and I hope everybody without access to one of the compatible tablets use them instead.

I suppose the "I own one, so it really shouldn't be an issue for others to own one too" attitude is a much better stance.

To be fair, and this is from a tablet owner so I'm not the person you've described, you're doing the same with people who do own tablets.

Or as you'd put it: "I have a tablet, so everyone must have them. 21st century right. You don't? Buy one."

It is what it is, if you want to use this feature then you have options. Whining and twisting reality around to pretend that absolutely no one owns a tablet is completely absurd and childish.

I didn't say that at all though.

The poll specifically says "only a few people can use the app" but i'm the one being unreasonable. Give me a break lmao.

"It makes me feel cheated"
"Now i'm unsure about my future and Gran Turismo"

Haha, what even are some of these poll choices? Whoever made this is completely hysterical over a free update.

Well since all is working without a problem on my Prestigio Multipad tablet and also on Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone i have no complaints, only, working with fingers (especially thick ones as i do have) is a little bit painful. You hide all the work and have no idea what is under your fingertip sometimes. Yes, i do have also bluestack version, but dunno how to zoom in there since i dont have a touch based laptop. Why zoom in you ask? It gives me more precise outcomes than in less zoomed environment.

Saying this i would like to change my vote in the poll...

When you complain that others are mincing words, then proceed to do the same, it weakens whatever point you were trying to make.

Take note of when the poll went live: it was before workarounds had been figured out.

How do I feel? Well, not wanting to sound too negative I guess I'll just say thanks, Kaz, for reminding me of how great Modnation Racers was. Had some fun last night getting reacquainted with a fully functional course maker, and suspect I'll go back for some more tonight.

Perhaps they were waiting for the people who still didn't have a tablet 2 years ago to finally catch up and get one ready for the release? Everyone I know has a tablet or at least a PC to emulate one on so I don't see a problem releasing it like this.

I very much doubt the console had the resources to have a full featured, fully integrated app anyway. They're already squeezing blood out of the stone with the PS3 with what's already in it.

No need to reply to this as your negativity towards PD and GT6 is the polar opposite to mine. Better to agree to disagree with someone who still enjoys it and doesn't care that much how PD do things.

Perspective. It's just a game. Not a conspiracy.

Knowing what a PS3 can do, they aren't squeezing anything out of it for this feature. This isn't a conspiracy, it's merely an idiotic design choice.

"Everyone I know has a tablet or at least a PC to emulate one on so I don't see a problem releasing it like this." ... That in itself IS the problem. This feature should not require A) some peripheral that adds no benefit whatsoever or B) the need to go find emulators or a work around to make it happen.

Everyone who supported this idea should be fired.

If the app were in addition to the in game feature, then fine.

This is what I came to say. It works on my mac, but don't know how to zoom. I assume there is a way I just don't know the commands.

Since some people still struggle to understand why those without a tablet complain about CM's (in)accessibility, hear me out. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with this:

I'm not spending more money on more hardware to get more from GT6, period. Especially not when it costs way more than the game itself. We all were patient enough to wait for pretty much two years for CM to come out. And now that it is out, we don't get to use it. You're out of your mind if you actually think I'm paying about 100 bucks to use an app.
I don't care that I got it to work on my phone via sideloading - this restriction shouldn't be there if it runs on other devices.

What next are you gonna tell me, to go buy a Scion FR-S and rent a track to play with the GPS Visualizer?

PD had no right to think that most players have access to tablets, end of the story.

So you got it working with a bit of extra legwork over the tablet user but still moan that it was supposedly exclusive to the tablet? Close your eyes for 10 seconds and then open them to see the half empty glass magically half full. The glass is just a bit smaller.

Looking through the gran turismo website archives from May 2013. Seven months before the release date of GT6:

Meanwhile, the game is also set for expanded connectivity with other devices such as smart phones and tablets and increased social and community functions.

http://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/news/00_1910783.html

Ambiguous which course maker it relates to but it looks like they were always planning on expanding the game with mobile apps and the tablet is the ideal candidate with the screen size.

I know money can be tight but I'm guessing the people moaning about not knowing of the need for a tablet/smartphone/PC for mobile apps on GT6 are well off enough to have internet, a console and a game to put in it. You can get a cheap tablet for the price of the game and fully justify the cost by using it for many, many other things. Like internet. Or Angry Birds.

I just map Zoom In to I ans Zoom Out to O. It works but you have to keep pressing it repeatedly to adjust the zoom.

Also, Eric, is that a Pocono recreation I spy? If so, think you could toss me a link? ;)

I managed to get the app to work on my smartphone and on my laptop and I still think that not having an in-game track editor was a terrible idea. The Bluestacks workaround for PC is way too much hassle considering all the limitations of the app and all the things I can't do with the track.

I agree though, the limitations are too many.. so annoying
