I had some fun with it last night after switching to my PS3 controller, but i still think the physics are about as bad as it gets, voice acting in the game is weak and the characters are just not strong enough to seem real.
It's a cool game, i always liked the concept, a mash up of GTA and the Sims as mentioned earlier is a good way to describe it, If you played the first TDU then this game is basicly a copy+paste of that with some new content and updates. As a driving game though, the driving is bad and let me explain why.
Dirt 2: This is a semi-arcade game, it is meant to be easy to pickup and play... and it is very easy to pickup and play, but it has a physics system built in that resembles real life, while it isnt intended to be a full sim the cars do react properly while being easy to drive. TDU physics system is nothing like this, the cars react nothing like how they should, while at the same time the cars are no easier (infact they are harder) to drive than the cars in Dirt 2. The cars have no weight, oversteer or understeer mechanics, though they can spin out, and they can drift, but both these things appear to be triggered mechanics and not part of an on the go physics calculation, you won't find yourself holding epic drifts, because the game is not capable of it.
Hardcore mode in the game is stated as being "Simulation", the best way i can describe it is it feels a little like driving the jeep in Battlefield Bad Company 2, just with more sensitive controls, its very hard to put the car where you want it due to the controls.
As a game, quality of the driving put aside it is a good game, good concept and cool idea, but as a complete package it is very lacking, i own test drive 5, from 1998 and the physics in that game as i remember are the same as TDU2. It makes me think what exactly were they doing all those years making this game? Upgrading the graphics? If they say they worked on the physics engine they are lying, flat out.
