The only thing even remotely Sims like about the game is that you can change how you avatar looks. You can do that in quite a few games, mainly any "create-a-player" in sports games.

To anyone thinking of buying or renting the game, don't think it's all about dress up and virtual clubbing because it isn't. Its primary focus is still driving cars and exploring the islands. I think I've spent maybe 5 minutes buying clothes and changing my appearance.

I think its a maybe game, its not quite sure what it is. Is it a driving game? If so its not a sim like GT. Is it a social game, like Sims or GTA? It cant make its mind up and neither can we. All we know is the cars handle terrible with a ds3 especially the lotus esprit!

Its a massively multiplayer racer.

And the cars don't handle that bad, it took me less then an hour to figure out how to drive the cars. Is it realistic? No, but neither is Burnout and that game is fun.

I think people are going into this with too high of expectations on car physics. Like I said, I did originally, but once I got past that it wasn't GT or Forza, I really ended up enjoying the game.

So not bad so far, as for fantec support Team vvv early preview vids use this wheel and the G25 extensivley on the PS3 version. Found a vid of a race track on TDU so there in there, wasn't the original one but I imagine it's in there. The wrecked car stuff, find all 10 parts of each car and your given that car to use for free, some betle vids on youtube.

As for handleing issues, can't coment yet but I think theres some rose tinted specticles issues, TDU 1 was horendous, from what I've seen TDU2 looks to be an improvement over the on off steering of TDU 1

Oh and heres the car wash in TDU2......Now you have to say that IS better than the GT5 one LOL

This. Me too. I realized that this is not made to compete with the simulator and remember playing TDU 1. That's when I can ignore the handling issue and have fun with cruising and discovering Ibiza.

But she's washing it with her arse! My local car wash just has 2 chavs with fags hanging out there gobs!

Oh yeah, the plastic surgery bit in the game see's your character leaving with his head covered in bandages......lovin the humour LOL

Oh! I didn't pay much attention to the chick on the right side.

2 guys with cigarettes? That's....that's like, motorcycle gang sexy. I want none of it. :ill:

As a wheel user (with a purpose built cockpit), any driving game lives or dies by it's physics in relation to wheel peripherals.

If this game does not play well with a wheel (Turbo S UE in particular), I can't see myself picking it up. I just can't get excited about using a gamepad to control a car anymore. I've been using a wheel too long.

Has anyone used a Fanatec wheel with TDU2?

;)

I have a GT3RS and il say it's definitely easier to control with a wheel. With a pad it's just wayyy too sensitive. You don't wanna use 900' of rotation with this game..it's impossible. I've had to come down to as low as 590' but it's still manageable.

The FF is kinda, numb if you will. I keep that around 30. Nothing a patch couldn't fix tho. It was abit weird at first. (Mind you i've been playing GT5 for the past 3 months) Il say it doesn't handle nothing like GT5, but it never claimed to be a simulator, so no harm no foul.

But the one big thing for me is not being able to use a controller while still using the wheel. Trying to navigate my character and the maps with the buttons on the wheel are nearly impossible. That is an issue that has to be addressed soon

I got to the casino tonight, it's kinda cool. Played roulette a few times, the only problem with computer generated casinos I always feel they are out to screw you over in the end.

I have played TDU2 for several hours now and overall, I like it. I'm using the PS3 and a G25 wheel. The cars are harder to drive than GT5 but I'm getting better at it.

Anyway, I just wanted to let it be known that at least SOME people like it. And... I'm not into the social aspect of it at all. Just cruisin' the island, mon! :)

"To each his/her own," I guess.

Finally finished downloading the damn thing, and right away something is bugging me: anyone else getting "popping" audio for the PC?

Then I'm out of ideas . Could be any number of things though, I got popping on other games before (mainly Fallout) and I need to update my sound card's drivers.

Thank you for answering my question. 👍

Sounds like it might be an interesting distraction for a while, when I'm not grinding in GT to get that blessed F1 car. :ouch:

;)

I can enjoy an arcade racer A LOT, but this one is ruined for console wheel owners. They just totally missed with this one. Using the G25/27 is horrible with this game. HUUUUUUGE unadjustable deadzone, plus horrible FFB, and overdampened wheel (even when you set it to 0). That and the fact that it's really hard to navigate when you are out of the car on foot, and they don't give you the option to assign a P2 dual shock for this.

If you don't have a wheel, it's probably fine.

One more question before I buy it - Can you shift manualy or is it like hot pursuit with automatic gears only?

Please fill me in... thanks

If you have the G27 or Fanatec, you can use Manual + Clutch.

I played with the wheel for about 2 hours today and fiddled with all the settings to make it more enjoyable. Make sure you turn Vibration Off unless you like that clunky noise the gears make.

In the end, I found playing with the controller is better, less headache since you have to switch back and forth between wheel and controller all the time. They seriously need to patch the game so we can use them both like in GT5.

Good luck with selling the dual cars. I don't think you can. No one on the TDU2 forums knows, either.

On the upside, Atari Devs have found the issue with the PS3 servers and are currently working on the problem. They'll update their status at 2am PST (1000 GMT). So, hopefully, by tomorrow morning, I can actually play the Casino and show off my rides.

And for cruisin' I've got four rides depending on my mood:

1. Spyker C12 Zagato (Got it thanks to the million won in the Ibiza Cup.)
2. Dodge Viper Coupe
3. Alfa Romeo Mito (Fun little car)
4. Dodge Charger.

If I feel like it, I might pop out in the Shelby Daytona, Jaguar D-type or the VW Beetle.

I posted this comment on another forum....

I enjoyed myself playing this game tonight.

1. I accepted that it is arcade car handling.
2. I've got my dfp wheel setup properly (360 degrees profiler).
3. I've learned to brake hard at corners and throw the car into the corner.

After the dirt driving school the feeling of the range rover in that license test was so awful I was ready to give up on this game. But after the driving school I was driving to a destination on my gps. GPS took me through a long dirt road. It was night...it started raining...there was thunder. Driving down that dirt road at night during a thunderstorm was fun.

Also, it does provide the one bit of fun that the original TDU offered. Driving in traffic. Passing cars by driving on the wrong side of the road and barely avoiding an oncoming car. Especially fun at night when you see headlights coming at you.

I'm actually looking forward to playing this again tomorrow.

Your mileage may vary. I have a high tolerance for bad games

Nice to see some more members posting up they like the game, latest review is from the Dutch site Tweekers, score is 8/10 which seems so far to be the average :)

So many bugs though. People getting corrupt saves, inability to have weather change offline. Pre-order/DLC cars only available offline et al.

Someone posted on their forum yesterday that said you could sell the duel cars once you reach Level 25, but as has often happened, I don't think anyone provided conclusive proof.

I had some fun with it last night after switching to my PS3 controller, but i still think the physics are about as bad as it gets, voice acting in the game is weak and the characters are just not strong enough to seem real.

It's a cool game, i always liked the concept, a mash up of GTA and the Sims as mentioned earlier is a good way to describe it, If you played the first TDU then this game is basicly a copy+paste of that with some new content and updates. As a driving game though, the driving is bad and let me explain why.

Dirt 2: This is a semi-arcade game, it is meant to be easy to pickup and play... and it is very easy to pickup and play, but it has a physics system built in that resembles real life, while it isnt intended to be a full sim the cars do react properly while being easy to drive. TDU physics system is nothing like this, the cars react nothing like how they should, while at the same time the cars are no easier (infact they are harder) to drive than the cars in Dirt 2. The cars have no weight, oversteer or understeer mechanics, though they can spin out, and they can drift, but both these things appear to be triggered mechanics and not part of an on the go physics calculation, you won't find yourself holding epic drifts, because the game is not capable of it.

Hardcore mode in the game is stated as being "Simulation", the best way i can describe it is it feels a little like driving the jeep in Battlefield Bad Company 2, just with more sensitive controls, its very hard to put the car where you want it due to the controls.

As a game, quality of the driving put aside it is a good game, good concept and cool idea, but as a complete package it is very lacking, i own test drive 5, from 1998 and the physics in that game as i remember are the same as TDU2. It makes me think what exactly were they doing all those years making this game? Upgrading the graphics? If they say they worked on the physics engine they are lying, flat out.

Right wen't and picked up my copy.......If you liked TDU you'll love this, simples

Graphics are better and yes the handeling is better too, but it's not GT5 or in any way trying to be a simulator, you can however control the car far better than in TDU 1

Servers are as usual with any new release left wanting, but that should sort itself out quickly

Quick tip, if your pootleing along at 90mph and then try and turn at a 90 degree turn understeer is the usual result, especialy if you've got the brakes jamed on, checking your speed visualy is the key to the handleing, it's easy to turn in at rediclious speeds without realising if you don't check.

Found a few car dealers and a tuning shop along with a few sticker shops, completed the first C4 races and unlocked the C4 high races. Runing the lotus which is a nice car to start with, First thing I was greeted with was rain as well, nice effects on the graphics and the cars! Theres a motorway that links the town you start in to the town on the oposite coast....quite a short hop and lots of stuff to find trhere, see if you can get upto the castle on the hill, some great views of the bay an the island from there ;)

PS. playing it on the PS3 with the pad so far will try the wheel later

I got to the casino tonight, it's kinda cool. Played roulette a few times, the only problem with computer generated casinos I always feel they are out to screw you over in the end.

Isn't that just all casinos? Or am I not seeing sarcasm.

I recieved my copy yesterday and at first I was very disappointed. The car(s) were pretty much un-controlable with my DFGT and there wasn't much improvement with the pad either, the online was laggy and the game didn't feel to good in general. But after about an hour or so I completely changed my mind, the physics aren't bad they just take some getting used to and it was pretty much the same story for everything else. It's not hard to spend a good couple of hours cruising without even realising! :)

TIP: Don't buy a car like the GT-R shortly after you've done a couple of races, you'll end up like me needing lots of money to continue the career mode. :dunce:
