It's aimed at the younger gamer.

No it isn't. I'm 23 and I like it just fine. It's aimed at people who like cars but don't want to play a simulation racing game. Not everyone wants a realistic gaming experience all the time.

I think its a game for those who really like the SIMS games. I loved SIMS 2 on the DS but no other version. And in this game all the characters have the same face and wooden expressions. Glad i didn't buy it (good thing we get free rentals)

I was going to rent this on gamefly, but they kept pushing the date back. It seems like I was spared and ended up with kane and lynch 2.

Since you can't change the button config on the PS3 anyone can tell me what the buttons are for shifting and brake/ access?
I usually use L2 and R2 for brake and accelerator, and square and X for shifting.
Is that how the config is?

The only thing even remotely Sims like about the game is that you can change how you avatar looks. You can do that in quite a few games, mainly any "create-a-player" in sports games.

To anyone thinking of buying or renting the game, don't think it's all about dress up and virtual clubbing because it isn't. Its primary focus is still driving cars and exploring the islands. I think I've spent maybe 5 minutes buying clothes and changing my appearance.

Why is everyone expecting a brilliant racing game this is more to do with free ride and being rich. And to be honest why do you care about AI the game is designed with an emphasis on multiplayer. The only complaint I have is WHY IS AMAZON TAKING SO LONG TO DELIVER IT TO ME?(no I haven't played the game yet but the complaints seem like nit picking).

Going to get this baby when it hits the shelves here in NL tomorrow. If it's anything like TDU1, it's going to be a game that makes collecting cars FUN, rather than a chore (and probably will not require grinding of any kind). 👍 And the mixture of offline and online is brilliant, it's what makes this game unique. So what if it's arcade? Looking forward to seeing you guys online. :)

Anyone unlocked the original island yet (level 10) If you have can ya go see if the race track is on the map (NW corner) and if any of the original bike dealers are about?

Can't quite belive they have included a reworked version of the original island in TDU2....hope the insane round the island millionairs race is still in.....1 hour race.....1 million in cash prize money! Not for the faint of heart though, time limit I think was one hour and the race was in heavy trafic!

Picking it up in the morning.......may stop playing to eat at some point LOL

Can somebody give me a definitive verdict on the physics handling with a decent wheel (G25/G27/Fanatec etc.)?

Mine arived this morning, installing it as i post this, i will test it with a G27 when i get the chance, though i'm not expecting miracles.

One thing that did annoy me is that the installation CD automatically installs it to C:/program files - did they never stop to think that every other game in existance allows you the option to install it whereever the **** you want? and in my case thats certaintly not on my C drive. Anyway, no matter i will leave it there until i find out how to install it elsewhere ^^.

Maybe I should have rephrased that sorry. I meant it's suitable for all ages. I'm contemplating getting it for my six year old.
The more sim orientated games are not suitable for younger gamers.

BTW 23 is not old lol.

So I played last night a couple hours before I went to sleep and heres what I think of using a wheel.

First I'll say thatI am very used to GT5 and I would say I am a good racer usually and when I'm determined I'm great. I'm 30 though and my once elitist hardcore gaming attitude is no more so I usually am more casual in my gaming now.

Wheel users won't have a good experience, with my deadzone set to nothing I still have to turn the wheel at least 5-10 degrees to get any car movement. Once you are in a gradual turn minor steering imputs work fine but you'l have to learn how far to overcome that deadzone. The brakes are overly sensitive or barley work. I am far from proficient with the controls though and I will give the wheel a go for at least another few days before I try the pad. I would say this game is designed for the pad so if you don't mind using a pad for a racing game just skip using your wheel all together.

I was a big TDU1 fan and TDU2 seems like a step backwards. So far I am not impressed and playing is more of a learning chore than a natural enjoyable learning curve.

First impressions with a G27.

Force feedback does not work, though i was able to force it on using the profiler this didnt work well with the game and just felt pointless. There is a massive deadzone and what feels like input lag, the game only responds to a small steering input (maybe less than 200 degrees) and there is no natural flow to the way the wheel works, i don't recommend driving this game with a wheel, as it currently stands it is pretty useless.

Physics wise, if you're used to proper racing games you will hate this, there are no physics, its the type of game you play with your keyboards arrow keys, no improvement over the original game, if anything it's worse.

Graphics are decent for the type of game but the cars are nowhere near as detailed as in GT5, its a different league. Sounds of the 4 cars i have driven have not been great, not terrible but it is no improvement over the original game, infact some of the cars i heard in the original sounded a lot better than this.

Lots of bugs at the moment with it, about to plug in a gamepad to play it instead of the wheel.

This game never claims to be a sim or even realistic. I think people need to stop thinking of it in the same way you do with GT, Forza or Shift.

I don't think anyone was expecting it to be like those games, but gamers wouldn't be too far out of their tree expecting it to sit favourably with the likes of PGR, Burnout or NFSHP.

It's supposed to be a fun racing game, not a serious one.

Yet people say it has a steep learning curve to get used to its handling. That's not arcade. That's like a simulator using physics that are different to ones in the real world.

Arguably, arcade would mean controls that are instinctive at first use, with some scope for improving your technique. No game that is intending to be a lighthearted approach to its subject should come with controls that need even experienced gamers to get to grips with or in some cases, just can't get on with.

What this guy said, the game doesnt have realistic physics, but its also not easy to drive, a very "on/off" feeling to the way the car turns makes it hard to control, a sim would not be any more difficult than this.

Sounds like my 6yr old would struggle with this.
TBH it sounds crap.

Will wait and see if Atari will patch it and pick it up in a few months time cheaper and better.

Some people here are overstating the term 'simulator'. For all intents and purposes, TDU 2 is a simulator as it simulates an environment that abides by physical laws. Now they might be stretched out, or not to anyone's particular taste and that's fine, but some here need to stop putting what a simulator should be on a proverbial pedestal and actually find a dictionary to see what a simulator is (not directed at anyone in particular).

Hot Pursuit is a simulator, every PGR game is a simulator. Burnout, Cruisin' USA, Ridge Racer, etc, etc...all simulators. Whether or not either of them has a better driving aspect or better physics is trivial at best because that's all left up to the one experiencing it. I felt PGR3 had better physics than 4, does that mean PGR3 is better? No (even though it is.).

If you played the first one then surely you weren't expecting this to be too different? If you were, well, that's really no one's fault but your own, wouldn't you say?

SO is there a review that is says this game isn't crap ,because you guys sound like this game isn't even worth a 6/10

As a wheel user (with a purpose built cockpit), any driving game lives or dies by it's physics in relation to wheel peripherals.

If this game does not play well with a wheel (Turbo S UE in particular), I can't see myself picking it up. I just can't get excited about using a gamepad to control a car anymore. I've been using a wheel too long.

Has anyone used a Fanatec wheel with TDU2?

;)

I have played it for 20 mins now with my g27. The physics with the wheel are phenomenally RUBBISH but I am willing to keep playing until I learn the physics. Thats what I did when I went from GTA IV to the very unrealistic Saints Row 2.

Yes, the wheel support is terrible and I don't see why considering TDU got it fine...

I read on the official forum an excerpt by one of the devs and it said how they used the V-Rally engine in TDU and wanted to build it from scratch for the second game. Considering many feel the first game was better, that's not putting Eden in a very good light.

Is it the same or similar to the feedback as the beta? I was quite comfortable with that.

I didn't have this wheel (G27) in the Beta but I had the Logitech Driving Force Ex. I think though, that it is the same.

I have just played some more since I posted and as with all games there was a learning curve. I am now used to the physics and they are doable till they may fix them. Even then, they may not.

I am going to pick this up tommorow as I have the morning off then go to school and see what its like when I get home, I am a pad user so I am hoping its not terrible, can you have a Manual transmission?

Yes you can lpb.

I play TDU2 with my G25 & yes, its.. its.. But I adapted to it a bit & messed with the wheel settings. I just hate the slight delay it gives when it turns, giving acceleration, braking, etc..

Alright, so the wrecked cars are:

Ibiza:
1. VW Beetle
2. Buggy V8

Hawaii:
1. Citroen 2CV
2. Shelby Daytona Coupe
3. Jaguar D-Type
4. AC 427

Really, the only crappy car on that list is the 2CV...and maybe the VW depending on your tastes.
