That's it I'm DONE with Daily Races and FIA Demolition Derbies

I am also sure things will improve over time, but I do not agree with return to position. Its not realistic and is not racing. In RL racing you have to deal with bad things and this emulates what we see here - even including unfair or bad rules.

This is not real life. It is not even a full-on simulation.
In real life, you would not be subject to the tactics employed by some players in GTS, and if someone were to ram you on purpose they would be disqualified and lose their team position.

Blue Moon was frustration. I was in a group with 4 up front, a little elbows-out but not too bad, 98% clean. Then some mercedes in our group who was diving up the inside and ghosting out everytime decided to do the same for the 19th time, not ghost out and hit my back end just as I accelerated. Qualified 2nd, was in 1st, finished 12th. Apoplectic doesn't cover it. D/A rating here.

I view bumper-car-drivers as simply another driving challenge that, by overcoming, will improve my skills.. I also find the game much more enjoyable if I don't take it so seriously...and/or personally

As happened to Seb Vettel after Baku you mean?

Pro sports in real life are all about finding ways to cheat that are not covered by the rules - motorsport even more so.

I know why they are ghosting. My point still stands, why are they driving through others during qualifying? Just because you can doesn't mean you have to. Dealing with traffic is one of the most important skills when qualifying.

Yes it is,I agree.
In order for that to happen PD needs to get rid of ghosting in both Q and in races too.And that is not going to happen,we all can understand why.

Yeah, it's a false economy though. They are trying to get people to drive correctly but then allowing them to ghost and they don't see the consequences of their actions. We were told by PD that there would be training in how to race properly but the two vids you have to watch are a complete joke. The whole game lives and dies by how good sport mode is and at the moment I don't think it's fit for purpose. Both in terms of adding enough to make the game enjoyable and have legs but also in ensuring it's fair to all taking part. Think PD have totally underestimated what is required to have fair and competitive online racing. The other problem being they have thrown all their eggs into this one basket.

I could not said it better myself.Spot on mate.

@PzR Slim You are trying to set your best lap that's why you ghosting is active.
If it wasn't you would crash on others or lose time trying to overtake them.

Nope. You wont ghost (that much at least) in SR S rating. You have to manage traffic.
Correct. My SR is not S though. It is between A and B.

How about just slowing down so you don't travel through them and potentially ruin their lap even if they are slower than you?
Everyone was aiming for a fast lap. If I would have slowed down to overtake them it would have taken 1 sec more for my lap. And I wouldn't have started first.
If you are faster and you can set an FL that doesn't mean you ruin other's lap.
They may just need a little more practice until they master the track.

Though, if ghosting was not active in gualify you would be in danger of losing your SR.
If after a corner someone has spinned and then trying to recover while you are coming clean out of the corner you may not have the time to stop or overtake, resulting in a collision.

That is not how racing works. If you reach SR S you won't be able to do that but may still come across people much slower than you, SR has nothing to do with how fast you are after all. You do not just drive through someone because they are slower than you. It's people like you who are the problem in the game. You are treating the game like a hotlapping simulator not a racing game.

The game is young, the quality of drivers will improve with time. I'm not sure what the answer is for esport events though, I don't think people will ever be happy with that.

I think I'm about right there with OP (though I'm not sure another rant thread was necessary).

Had a guy just absolutely cream me into a slow corner and ruin a pretty solid 5th place run. Dropped me back into 10th or so with people that were frankly about as competent with their racing line as the mid-level AI. Caused even more errors on my part trying to drive at their pace. Not their fault but it was a frustrating situation to be put in.

I wanted to check the replay to see what the deal was because that driver started the race ahead of me. It looks like he had to serve a rather extensive penalty (and did so in a pretty stupid manner, frankly) but I couldn't find an incident that would have tripped it. Best I can figure was that the guy was just distracted or preoccupied with something else during the race.

Stuff like this makes me wonder why I renewed my PS+ for this game. I was hoping that the driver and safety ratings would create an environment similar to an organized league where people put real effort into each race and don't just treat them like another round of Overwatch.

I think there are a lot of things PD should be doing to make things better but the software can only go so far. We all still play a big part.

DR has to do with how fast you are.

A hotlap is necessary in qualify. This is not how it works in the races -ghosting- and neither do I use ghosting as an advantage in the Final.

DR has to do with how fast you are.

DR also has to do with the position you'll finish your races and not only how fast you are.
Plus "hotlap" is not necessary.A qualify lap is necessary. Its not the same thing.
IMO there should be no ghosting in any kind of e-sport racing online series (q session or race).Ghosting make people have "bad habits" and actually dont learn how to race safe around others.
I prefer to lose 0.5 sec here and there if the system "teach" players how to race safe and clean.

An obvious flaw with that is that it would require the game to know who the guilty party is.
Not that hard to figure out in the situation described,.

Here.

Totally unfair loss..
It's also totally unfair that you had the opportunity, while ghosted mind you, to completely back up to the other side of the track and re-align you car with the direction of travel and completely off of the racing line, before rejoining the race. Instead, you chose to move right onto the racing line in the middle of a chicane. Looks like you forced at least 2 cars onto the grass to avoid you, probably causing themselves a penalty as a result, and the third was lucky enough to ghost because they probably lost control trying to avoid you and may also have gone off track and cost themselves a time penalty.

So my 1st FIA race went well  Controller died on my qualifying lap (didn't have time to do another) and started near the back at Interlagos. Picked up a few places and was building a little steam until I came upon the crazies (a Red NSX, Blue Audi? and a Black GTR who had been playing dodgems ahead of me) and this happened...

I'm sure someone will tell this is all fair and correct  :nervous::D

The most ludicrous aspect is that I got the 10 second penalty?!!?!? At the end of the race the guy in the Black GTR had no penalty and sure as hell didn't serve it during the race. I love the game but whichever way you stretch it that scenario (been rammed from behind) is broken.

The driver behind you was hit by the driver behind them pushing him into you. In a just system that should never lead to a penalty for you as you are the innocent party in a game of pinball. However, the system isn't just.

The game really struggles to understand these types of situations because a few things go weird here.
You overbrake, and are on a horrible line going through that corner, so the game might've registered you as brake checking the GT-R behind you.

I'm not saying you're at fault, I'm just saying why the game may have seen you as at fault.

My experience has been different, I'll upload a replay when I get home tonight, but I had a very good battle with 4th on Interlagos last night, it got a little bumpy and we both walked away with -SR ticks but no penalties which at the end of the day seems to be how the system is supposed to work.
