The 20 tracks issue is really bugging me

Everything that program consist of is some kind of a code.

I would think of them as assets or data.

When you code up a spreadsheet app, you create Excel.

When you have spreadsheets that you use in Excel, you have data.

I can toss Excel 2003 and all it's code, start using Excel 2007 and all it's new code and still use the same data files from before.

yeah i also read about the 20 locations but this got me thinking:

El Capitan location is assemble with:

El Capitan (obviously)
cathedral rock rally course(I don't remember the name of that rally course)
ver I
ver II
ver III

so that is a location with 4 tracks, that(despite forza forwards and backwards layouts)is layout to be 4 different ones, not a variation of the same one.

I really hope that there is a Toscana road course(a driver's road like one of the Italian job of 1969)

^^ No it's 1 track with the variations e.g Donnington GP Circuit & also the full length track.1 track + 1 variation. As per previous GT games.

I'm new to the PS/3 and GT5, but I'm eagerly anticipating the release of GT5.

Just to add to the speculation, maybe the confusion is that they are saying that GT5 has 20 "new" tracks, as in tracks that weren't in GT5:P, GT4, etc.

Well we wont have to worry too much now because of the track creator feature and if its robust enough there could be the prospect of replica real world tracks add DLC to that and everyone is a winner.

Car models arent code, code is the engine that runs them.

True.

PD started the graphics, physics engine and any other game related engines from scratch.

But technically, they didn't port the cars from GT4 either (Even though they are not code). They used the models the GT4 cars were derived from to make the standard cars. So essentially, nothing has been carried over directly from GT4.

I am starting to doubt that after seeing this post

I'm hopeful that there's gonna be more than 20 tracks.

The official website says "more than 20 locations and over 70 variations". I'm remaining optimistic.

@fencefoal - I wouldn't trust that info. It's not official Sony info, so until Sony's info about it changes I will take the info available on Sony's official page for GT5.

it seems another mistake caused by translator san, these are 20 location, not tracks in different layouts, take the following example:

El capitan scenario

El capitan road course
cathredal rocks I,II and III rally

i believe that the same will go with toscana like the road course where the 458 is been drive on

Well, the final track number hasn't been nailed down, yet. But, it should be said that SSR11 has made an appearance in every other game, meaning it's due for GT5. Plus there are several tracks we've seen in videos that haven't been officially confirmed yet (Toscana Road and Stelvio Pass) and then there are the traditional PD courses like Test course, HSR, Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, Grand Valley and the like

Er... oh, I see what you meant about SSR11. Not very clear when I first read it, heh.

It'd be nice to see it back. I can't think of a bad fantasy course that PD has done, but I find almost all of the street courses tedious. Sorta disappointing that we've seen so many when it comes to new tracks so far for GT5... but I guess it leaves the others as a surprise, which is nice, and it's hard to argue with using Rome and Madrid for presentation purposes (as they have real-life reference points).

SSR11 was in GT1 and GT3. Watching the E3 trailer, it would appear that it's back in GT5. It's like a tradition: SSR11 is in every other GT game. I bet it's gone from GT6

i believe the same. GT6 may omit SSR11. I hope in GT5 they have both the GT1 and GT3 version and maybe a new GT5 version. Just wishful thinking :)

Maybe it's just me, but I've always assumed those two are pretty much the standard-bearers of the PD-made tracks. They're designed well enough to be real tracks, and they haven't missed a game yet. I'd be shocked if they aren't in :)

Yeah it will be a letdown to see if its not in the game. :(

Also want to see is El Capitain in HD. :)

I know I'm very late to the discussion, but I just saw on one of GT PSP's trailers that this game has 35 tracks and 60 variations... isn't it safe to assume that GT5 will at least have the same number of tracks?
